I'm a stripper! There, I said it. 😛
My profession is: A registered nurse/exotic dancer
My level of education: I have a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing and I am currently enrolled in a Masters of Science in Nursing program at a public university. I have one year left before I graduate.
Why have I chosen to become a stripper: Money. I'm dancing to pay for my master's degree. I make a decent living as a nurse but because I am single and have no dependents, I pay about 25% of my salary in tax plus social security, health insurance, etc. The more I work as a nurse, the less money I take home. The government gets it all. With dancing, it's all cash and we don't fill out W-2 forms. Probably for someone who stripped fulltime, they wouldn't be able to hide that money from the IRS but because I have another job that I pay tax on, it's very unlikely I'll be audited.
Besides the money, I think it's fun. Sure, parts of it suck. Co-workers can be crazy, guys can be asses. But I like getting up on stage and dancing. I like talking to people. It's a low stress job, in my opinion. Others may not feel that way but it's kind of what you make it.

Personally, I think split grip is harder than elbow grip. I'll still can't do straight up split grip ayesha, only from an extended butterfly. I think the elbow grip is more secure and balancing is a bit easier. I've been working on handsprings and I've been working on the split grip because I feel like twisted grip puts a lot of strain on my shoulder.

I own both Pleasers and Ellies. I find the sizing to be pretty comparable. I'd say the Ellies tend to favor wide feet a bit better. I wear a 9 in both types of shoes. I tried Ellies in an 8 because the 9s are a bit loose, but it was just too tight. So if you have really narrow feet, you might want to go down a size in the Ellies.

I'll put in my two cents 🙂 I think exotic dancing and poledancing are always going to be somewhat intertwined. Because at some point, all exotic dancers are pole dancers. They may not be able to do lots of tricks and but they utilize the pole. It is annoying when people stereotype pole dancing. My "work" poling at the strip club is waaaaaay different than my pole dancing sessions or classes. But I don't think we should try to alienate those who do both forms of pole dancing as there are many of us who do.
In terms of nudity and thongs, those of us that work in that environment tend to get immune to it. I almost left my house one day without a shirt on! lol. I mean, everyone has nipples. Men, women, children. Are they really that offensive? Americans are a bit uptight about nudity, in my opinion. Other countries, people run around mostly naked on beaches and all of that. I think we should all try to respect each other. But I don't think that this site is any less informative or any less of a haven for polers just because of some nipples and thong photos.

abcollins1- You're getting theoretical here. Most people in the general public don't consider fruits and vegetables to be carbs. Obviously, I'd be anorexic if all I ate was meat and my kidneys would probably be crap too. So I wasn't trying to be misleading in my initial comment.
But you're misleading saying that you can get a six pack by diet alone. That is absolutely false. There is no way unless you starve yourself. You need exercise to build up the rest of the muscle in your body to increase the metabolism. Not to mention, it's just healthy. As Dirty Girl POLEtice mentions, you can be really thin but are really not healthy. Diet alone won't cut it.

Ugh, sassypants I have the very same problem!! I'm very fair skinned and I turn red like crazy. I don't think there's much to be done, really. 🙁 Blood follows gravity and the brain gets a majority of our cardiac ouput per minute. So if the head is down, so goes the blood. lol
-
abcollins- I think you're misunderstanding my points. If you want to get technical, I don't eat carbs with a high glycemic index like white bread, pasta, etc. I don't think calling me out and trying to discredit me because you misunderstood my comment is very nice. A balanced diet is a good thing but many people fill up on carbs and liquid calories, so substituting a low fat protein source is a good option. It's not necessary to eat a ton of protein, I prefer to because it's the best option for my body. But what I said about protein is true, it keeps you full longer than carbs or fat and it takes more calories to digest it.
And I'm not saying to use genetics as a crutch, I'm saying we all need to be realistic. Most people aren't going to look like a super model or Zoraya Judd or whoever. I think the media really does a number on us, with airbrushing and all that. No one is perfect, no one has perfect six pack abs all the time. So a more realistic goal would be to be the healthiest person you can be. By exercise and a good diet. That's the point I was trying to get across.

Unfortunately some of it is genetics. Some people are more likely than others to be really thin or look super muscular. In terms of losing weights, others have made very good points. You cannot spot train to get thin. Cardio blasts a lot of calories but the real key is to weight lift. Women, in general, shy away from weight lifting as they see it as getting bulky or being masculine. Luckily in pole dancing, we use our own weight as resistance. 🙂 But I do still weightlift at the gym too. Muscle burns revs your metabolism. The more muscle you have, the more calories you burn in a day. Simple as that.
In terms of diet, protein, protein, and more protein. Protein fills you up longer than any other category of food. Plus, protein is the building block of muscle. You can't build more muscle without proper protein intake. Plus our bodies have to work harder to break down protein so we burn more calories digesting it. I don't even eat carbs anymore because it makes me feel like crap. Don't drink calories. It's amazing how many calories you can consume in liquids.

Zoraya Judd. She's amazingly strong and just seems like the most awesome woman. She's very dedicated not only to pole and the fans, but to her family as well. 🙂

I don't find female or male bodybuilders to be attractive. They use steroids, crazy diets, and dehydrate themselves to look like that. It's not healthy or natural. However, I think muscle gained through normal exercise is beautiful! Olympians and other athletes train hard and their bodies look great. I've gotten pretty muscular from pole dancing, especially my upper arms and back but I like it. I've never had anyone say I looked too muscular. But I've always been curvier though too, so it kind of balances it out.

I'm glad you found out what was going on. Chest pain can be a bit difficult to diagnose because there can be a variety of things going on. Costochondritis is a pretty common thing. It's inflammation of the cartilage in the ribs. I've had it so badly before that I could barely breathe lying flat. It can be brought on by barometric changes, viral and bacterial infections, and heavy exercise. I hope you feel better soon!
@Luvlee- To diagnose costochondritis, you simply press on the cartilage portion of the ribcage. Normally, it's not particularly tender. If you have inflammation, you'll probably about jump off the exam table. It's very painful.
Also this time of year pleurisy could be a concern with all the nasty bugs going around. And rib subluxations are quite common in those who are very active.

MemberOctober 15, 2012 at 9:57 pm in reply to: Halloween Costume Help and Discussion threadHave you checked out Trashy Lingerie? They have a bargain costume line. The geisha mistress is quite cute. You could wear a bra and comfort thong underneath. http://www.trashy.com/Geisha-Mistress.19731-product.htm
I bought my costume from Trashy Lingerie but it was one of their handmade items. It fits like they made it specially for me and the details are amazing. I can't speak to their bargain line, but the costumes look pretty decent.

There was a girl from Marquette who was taking classes at MSU this summer. She joined in one of my classes at the gym. She said she went to a studio up there, so maybe it is the same one? I don't even remember her name, unfortunately.

I tried it and while I think it did help my flexibility, I didn’t particularly care for the experience. You slip and slide all over the place. I did it in the morning and ended up feeling completely exhausted. I’ve never felt more groggy in my entire life. I did hydrate but I think it doesn’t matter how much you drink, it’s still going to dehydrate you.

I just got my costume in the mail!!! I'm definitely going to do a video. Gotta think of a good song to complement my attire 😛

I know the gist of what you're trying to get across. But I think what happens is a modified constructive criticism. For instance, last week, I was trying to do this lift-thingy. I posted a video and a user suggested I try a combo of moves that would help build strength for lifts. That's what I like best, when others can suggest new things for me to try that I might never have thought of by myself.
This community is so supportive and I've learned tons from various users. Some people put up videos just to show how far they've come or things they're working on. But some people will say 'hey, help! I want advice'. I think it's all about the approach. 🙂

Aerial Amy recently did a blog on Iron X. She explains the necessity of twisting your chest instead of moving your legs. It's really well done. I'm actually having some success and it can be done with EG. 🙂
But otherwise, I usually just grab the pole and do some more inverted moves like gemini, butterfly, extended butterfly or chopper.

I'm working on EG Iron X! 😀 I'll post my fails later. lol

I'm sorry to hear about that. I can only imagine your frustration. It's hard because parents are supposed to be these loving, trustworthy individuals but sometimes, that's just not the case. Parents can use their children like pawns and it's unfortunate. My mother basically used me as a servant growing up. She was never kind to me.
I went away for college and I paid for everything myself from the age of 18. I would rarely speak to my mother. Now that I'm older and I have a successful career where I make more money than she does, she thinks I "owe her" something. And if she sends me a card with ten dollars, oh man, I better call her up right away and shower her with gratitude.
We had a major falling out last month and I've decided I'm done with her. I always felt that she was my mother and I should try for the sake of trying. But since I cut it off with her, I've never felt better. Sometimes instead of being supportive, parents just drag you down. It sounds like your mom has a shopping addiction and by lending her money, you're fueling the fire. Maybe suggest she see a counselor.

I just started practicing today. Meh, it's hard! Mostly because I need more back flexibility. I struggle on a 50mm pole. 45mm is waaay easier but I don't have one readily available for me to practice on. I like Marion Crampe's youtube tutorial, she goes through the move very thoroughly. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TeRUIburcmo&feature=related
She makes it look so easy! lol

Lyme! lol, you're so funny.
Never used one. I got an IUD, took care of that pesky period problem. Don't even have them anymore. 🙂
But I wonder if the cups would work with a tilted cervix? I'd consider using one when I get my IUD removed but idk if it'd fit right. Hmmm…
-
Well, maybe I can answer your question. So at work we have smoke that comes out of the stage. It smells sweet, so I'm guessing it has some sort of sugary component. However, I've never noticed a residue on the pole from it. The biggest thing is being able to see. Sometimes it can be hazy and dancing can be a bit dangerous. Lol

MemberSeptember 27, 2012 at 6:24 pm in reply to: Children and Pole Dance on Anderson CooperI guess my issue with this is there are many other things that sexualize children but everyone is A-okay with that. But pole, ohhhh nooo…we're turning them into strippers! I mean come on. Take pageants for instance. Mothers dress up their kids, put on makeup, false eyelashes, skimpy sequined costumes, tease their hair to no end and make them dance/sing/perform provocatively to win the judge's vote. No one seems to have an issue with that. In fact, there are television shows devoted to covering children's beauty pageants.
Our society as a whole sexualizes women at a very young age. I see girls in grade school wearing makeup and revealing clothing. I'm not saying it's right but I think women like to shame other women out of jealousy. We need to stick together and stop all the hate.
There is an obesity epidemic in this country. I don't see how an alternative form of exercise can be a bad thing. It's not like we're putting little girls in thongs and sky high heels. Pole dance/fitness is a legitimate form of exercise and can be something fun both mother and daughter can do together that encourages physical fitness.

MemberSeptember 26, 2012 at 4:43 pm in reply to: Looking into pole dancing for extra incomeHey bb, if you want some info, PM me. But basically you need to go check out the clubs you are interested in. They won’t tell you straight up what rent is, you do have to pay to work. So sometimes you may go home in the red. Average cash is 300-500 per shift. Certain girls can make way more.
