Definitly different! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_sunny.gif Don’t you love the spice of life? SO much room on this planet (and in the world of pole dancing) for all of us. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_mrgreen.gif

Yes Lily…I’m sorry I missed your first post. Sometimes I read them and intend to write but forget. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_redface.gif I have been ACE certified for 8 years, its not an easy coarse by any means, but you will learn sooooo much, the test for the PT was tough. You will also be required to do continuing education, every 2 years to ensure your keeping up with things in order for them to re certify you. The pole dance Certification falls under the continuing ed. program. You will also have to maintain current CPR, but any gym or studio will require the same, well at least they should! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif
Okay, another question for you! Did you do self-study and take an online test for your ACE certification? I’m not finding in-person classes from them near me…….are you familiar with AFAA? http://www.afaa.com
I am finding some group in-person aerobic certification and choreography classes through them in my state – do think these would be as beneficial?

https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif no worries – I honestly don’t know how you are as active here as you are doing everything you do! Thank you again for the info, I appreciate it and hope this all goes somewhere!

I’m usually a night poler too! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif On the days my daughter goes to school I sometimes get a good mid-morning workout in during my son’s nap. But for the most part I’ll eat an early dinner, stretch while having conversation with my husband while he eats, then get on the pole after my kids go to sleep…..and hopefully while my husband watches a movie – I get nervous when he watches…..though I do love to put on a show for him on a good night. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif
Oh, and I often get to practice my inverts in the afternoons when my kids play outside….they have a fireman’s pole on their playground outside, the soft grass makes me braver!

I strongly recommend becoming ACE certified in either personal training or group fitness. Both would be best if you plan on leading a group. ACE is one of the leaders in the health and fitness industry for certifications. ALL gyms recognize them and respect those who are certified through them. They also have a pole dance certification now too. I believe the pole dance cert. is only for someone who is already an ACE professional. If any of you are going to choose to go with a pole certification only…..be careful, look at THEIR qualification, at this point there is nothing stopping any pole studio or anyone, from creating their own Certification so, that means any joe https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_geek.gif can certify you and charge you a hefty fee for it. If your going to pay a large amount of money for a certification, I would go with a respected one like ACE. If you chose a fitness based program instead of just a quicky certification, you will learn muscle groups, body mechanics, stretching, cardiovascular basics, and how to create a safe effective program and way more!! Once you have this knowledge you can easily apply it to pole dance and any other form of exercise out there. Invest your money wisely. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_geek.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_study.gif From what I have seen with pole certifications, unless you have a background in fitness you need more than just that. Its just my opinion though. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_colors.gif
Thank you SO much for this information Veena! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif It’s exactly what I was looking for when I started my ‘Instructor Certification’ thread a while ago…https://www.studioveena.com/forum.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I had been really surprised you didn’t reply there as I assumed you’d have some good info! Is this the training you’ve gone through? As you mentioned, I had found a few independent studios offering instructor certification programs for a ton of money, and I’ve been really curious about how accredited they are. The woman who owns the studio I’ll be teaching at has only requested I get my first aid & cpr training, which I did yesterday. I’m excited to take some ACE courses though, thanks again! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

Charley…I actually have been self taught for the most part. I teach my first class this coming sunday. I will be teaching a couple of intermediate and advanced classes!! I am so excited. I get my keys to the studio and my "instructor" shirts tomorrow!! YAY!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif
I consider myself self-taught too, mostly from video and web (here of course!). Best of luck for Sunday! What’s your plan for your classes? I’m currently figuring that out….I’ve been busy choosing music, working on warm-up and cool-down routines, choosing tricks and transition moves and trying to put together a beginner’s routine. I wish I had experience leading group exercise and in dance choreography…..I really want to teach this like an aerobics class! Her grand opening is scheduled for like 2 weeks from now…. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_bounce.gif I’m so stoked!!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_razz.gif

Roxy that’s so fantastic! A very similar situation is working out for me…..the dancer I took private lessons with just got a new larger studio and asked me to teach a beginner class, I’m so excited about it! I loved the idea of opening a studio too, but at this point I’m so happy to be a part of someone else’s business on a small level. I really like the direction she’s taking her studio in too – she’s got a spinning hoop and will be getting silk ropes https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif I love the cirque du soleil style workout! She also does private parties and lots of bachelorette’s – she says they have been her bread & butter while getting started.
-
Awesome, thank you! I really like the way you have the lessons laid out in order https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif but I still can not tell if you’re in spinning mode or not in this video, this is such a cool spin https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

wow Joel https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_eek.gif I’ll take one of those! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif I am also a big fan of kegels right after childbirth, and anytime https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif
I am laughing my ass off at this thread! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif
I actually cannot believe I haven’t farted while poling, I fart and queef totally regularly……I’m sure as I do more inverts it will happen……. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif

ohmygosh your cupcakes are too cute!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif
ugh….I haaaaate my tats, I have two that are in the process of being removed. Cherries on my right front hip, and if a butterfly could be ugly, I’ve got it on my left lower back. I’ve had like 8 laser treatments (omg so painful https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif ) and they are really faded, you can see them a little in my last video. I have my doubts as to the lasers completley removing them though, I’m going to do a few a more treatments and if they don’t fade completley I’m going to get new pretty tattoos over them…..which is kinda what I want to do anyway, we’ll see! I love body art, the ones I chose at 18 were just so dumb and lame. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_tongue.gif

^^^ I totally have those dreams, but I’m not at home – I’m dancing on stage at a huge rock show https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

The site looks great, I love the interviews – can’t wait to read more! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

I’ve done ear candling and it’s pretty cool…..but I’ve also heard ALOT of criticism about it, supposedly it can really be dangerous for your ear canal. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif I’d definitly consult a holistic doctor about it if you’re interested, though I’ve bought them over the counter at GNC before. haha, I also almost set my husband’s hair on fire……all kinds of danger! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif
Seriously, though Jacq I’m so sorry to hear of your condition – that would make me go absolutely insane!! Health is so precious, and so easy to take for granted.
-
Your show sounds sooo cute!! I love the idea, go for it!!
-
That’s so exciting!! I’m so happy for you, there is nothing like those intoxicating early days! *sigh*….
ITA that a forum for personal discussions would be so wonderful here – this community is so supportive and I think we all have so much more in common than just a love of pole https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_sunny.gif

Cali, I am also so sorry you’re going through this – I have also been divorced and of course my story is it’s own kind of nightmare…..I know how stressful and painful it is. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif I agree with SO much of what’s been said, especially about going to counseling and support groups on your own if you have to. I hope the best for you, and am so glad you’re getting to talk things out here.

Litlbit, I have to tell you how awesome you are!!! You look fantastic and so energetic, props for taking on a new sport like this at past 50, I’m truly inspired!
I was 31 last February, I have a 1 year old son and 3 year old daughter. I did jazz and tap dance as a child, cheered in high school, been a regular runner for years and always loved being active. I gained and lost 50 pounds with each pregnancy, other than that my weight has been right around 105 since I hit 5’4" at 16. Pole dance is definitly helping me stay at that weight these days and has really firmed up my whole body like it’s never been, I LOVE it!!!!
-
My pole is 35mm, and I love it – I have quite small hands and have a really difficult time with a 50mm. What type of pole are you looking at with that diameter?
-
Hang in there – and be tough!! It really is such a brutally physical sport – meeting the challenge is part of the high!! My only advice is to go slow….I feel like I am going at a turtle’s pace because of the pain too….take time off if you need but don’t take time off from stretching and strength exersices (k I need to take my own advice here https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif ) and you’ll see improvement the next time you brave the pole. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_viking.gif

so cool! I was just at that club 2 weekends ago – it was pretty cool…they didn’t have any poles up when I was there though, damn I love Vegas!!!
