Everyone is different… I inverted after 4 pole dancing lessons. I've been poling for probably only a couple of weeks longer than you Red Velvet. I was self teaching for a couple of weeks before I started lessons and I am so happy that I did. It is so much more motivating to dance in a class as it pushes you to work harder, or at least that's how I feel. At home I'm like oh well I can't do it… But in class I'm like let's keep trying!

Also, class is better to remember things like pointing your toes and looking 'pretty' while poling. It's hard to remember all of that on your own.

Thanks Cherished… will definitely try this on my inverted v as I can't shoulder mount yet!

I would also like to know this… I am only a beginner and get terrible blisters that start to heal but then get ripped open again by poling. I've found they've gotten better as I've been getting stronger but that doesn't really help you much… Sorry!

I would love to do this aerialgypsy and thanks for your recommendations. I guess my only problem with that is finding the time to go and see different people but I’m hoping ill be able to find some online as is the trend these days

robinb I have exactly the same problem… my body build is exactly the same as yours! I think I eat fairly well but I don't know what to do.

Sorry Hun I didn’t mean to attack you in regards to what I said,it is just how I feel with all these comments and accusations that have built up! There is so much contradiction in this thread it is a bit of a wonder for where I should start but also lots of great information for which I am extremely thankful for… I never meant to strike up such a heated discussion, I only wanted a couple of tips! I am going to be much more careful of what I post in future!

As I’ve mentioned earlier I am eating at the calories specified for losing weight in terms of my bmr and activity level factored in.

Unfortunately I don’t feel comfortable posting any photos or videos on here now that I’ve been told I am under muscled and storing excess fat. I actually feel quite disheartened by all these comments and wish I’d never posted this in the first place. I understand people want to give their opinion but with the majority of negative comments attacking me I no longer feel comfortable.

But just to clear things up, I am not wanting to do this to look sexy or whatever for other people. I couldn’t care less about curves or not having curves or whatever women are ‘supposed to look like’ , I want to do this for me so that I feel comfortable in my own skin and women come in many shapes and sizes so we should embrace them all.

I really want to do this but I am a super newbie and don't know how to put together a routine :/

What else is cliche and overdone? I'm such a noob!

Thank you for all your kind words, I see now that no one was attacking me, it just came across that way.

The nutritionist I’m seeing I’ve been seeing since I was 12. I used to be slightly overweight and then lost 10kg but have since put on 5kg and now feel insecure about my body.

I don’t see how it is a problem to say that I will not be comfortable until my body is the way I want it to be but I guess I can understand that those with a history of eating disorders see red flags.

But again thank you for all your advice. There is a lot of different information in this thread and I can see that I will just have to make my own judgements.

Okay wow there are a lot of posts here… A lot that have made me feel good about myself and a lot that have made me feel awful… I really don’t think I need to seek counseling to those who suggested that… That has actually made me feel quite upset.

To clarify, I am 4’11 105lb. My bmr is 1100 with exercise factored in it is 1440. I have been told by a nutritionist that to lose fat one must eat 200-500 calories less than their bmr with activity level factored in.

I did not choose my number of calories randomly, I chose it based on what i thought to be fact. I see that going under 1200 calories a day is like a no go zone for many people but for me it is what I have been told and was merely looking for further input into my issue.

I feel that from everything that was posted on here I need to focus on those who left constructive and helpful comments as opposed to many who I felt were attacking my choices… As I said I was only asking for help and input not saying that my plan is ‘correct’ or the way to go about this.

Thank you for your very kind words and I do agree that we should love our bodies for how they are, thin, curvy, wide, narrow or whatever.

I just want to be confident within myself. I want to be able to pole wearing a sports bra and shorts.. At the moment I wear a very loose fitting top as I am so conscious of this area. I just feel like I would feel better about myself and be able to love myself if I had this. I am sorry if you don’t agree and it upsets you, I am glad for you that you are happy with your body and can only hope I one day will be too!

Yeah.. she said it was the old style of Bobbi's pole? I really don't know much about them.

Does it make your hands smell awful like metal afterwards?

Yes I do agree, the x pert is so sleek and nice… I mounted mine by myself, no ladder or measuring haha. I just winged it and it worked!

Yeah it doesnt feel much between my home pole and the studio one.

It's good that you learnt on a different type of pole so you could see which finish worked best for you. I have heard that… I hope when the colour wears off it wears evenly!

I was actually going to buy a Bobbi's pole, I found a secondhand one online for $250 and was seriously considering it. The only thing that got me was the fact it was 38mm and at the time I really wanted a 42mm for some strange reason… I kind of wish I had gotten a 38mm pole but 2mm isn't much difference at all.

Wow haha…how did you find the chrome? I have never danced on a chrome pole…only brass, so I have no idea how slippery they are.

That doesn't sound very nice with all different colours on it… Mine is completely gold. But I have heard a lot of stories of the colouring wearing off. But that's okay, I don't plan on selling it anytime soon if ever!

@Juicy J I paid $600 for it…I thought it was well worth it seeing as it was completely new.
