From personal experience and from the experience of others, going from a 50mm to a 45 is a much easier adaptation that going from a 45 to 50. I always recommend starting with a 50 and then down the road going to a 45. If you're not planning on getting very serious with poling and just using it for recreational purposes as in not competing or doing shows, I'd say get a 45. It's good to be versatile with pole and learning everything on a 50 allows you that versatility.

MemberApril 17, 2011 at 1:02 am in reply to: What do you look for in a Pole Fitness Dance Studio? The most important thing for me when looking for a studio was What does it look like? I want to see pics online and not have to search your entire website just to find your pics of your studio. I also want a clean and easy to navigate website. Your home page should be free of cluttery words, no flash video or annoying music that if I have my volume up I'm going to get my ears blasted, and an easy to navigate menu with all the essential information a simple click away. I have done an enourmous amount of research and consulting with website marketing designers of big name industries like Best Buy, Walmart, and Amazon. A lot of valuable input has helped with our studio website reconstruction. Their job in marketing analysis is to disect those websites and find out the best layouts for the consumer. And as a business enterpenuer I can say, thinking like the consumer will definitely get you in the ball game. Consumers want to know what the product is you're selling and why your product is better than the other guys in the simplest fashion. I agree with everything everyone else has said. I also like the idea of having a link to a youtube account with dance videos so I can see the style of dance being taught at the studio or if the studio is strictly tricks only. Every studio has something different to offer, and offering a little sample of what to expect is like sample day at the grocery-makes you want to buy the whole product and get more. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_heart1.gif

I suggest trying Veena's lessons on this site. They're an amazing resource just a click away. She has all her lessons organized into categories beginning with the basics- strength, stretching (for warm up & cool down) then she has all her pole lessons broken down for beginner, intermediate, and advanced.

I use a foam roller as an addition to my stretches specifically for my back flexibility before and after a workout. Foam roller for back flexibility takes time and progression to ease your back into the stretch because the foam roller is so big it could actually be painful if your back isn't properly flexible. You don't want to throw your entire weight into it, you have to ease yourself in. That saying goes for all the stretches you would use the foam roller for. I use a rolled up yoga mat for my beginner students in the lumbar area…it has a little give but for people without hyperflexibility in their back, it serves as a sufficient stretch. There are a lot of YouTube videos out there for foam roller exercises. I also got BeSpun's foam roller DVD and found some useful exercises. The foam roller I got came with a DVD and many of the exercises Amy in the BeSpun DVD shows you are on my foam roller DVD too. I also like the tennis balls but I use them for other areas in my classes. I have used them in the rhomboid area and I can tell you it felt like heaven. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif I also really like to use my foam roller for my shoulders….that feels amazing too. There are different types of rollers in colors and soft or hard. The following article is a good overview of some of the benefits and differences with foam rollers.

I used to be more about tricks but lately I've centered my focus on dance flow and incorporating both dance and tricks in my free style practice. I enjoy a combination of both now as I too get bored watching when there is too much of one thing. I am really admiring routines that excentuate dance flow as a basis and have some graceful trick execution as the "whipped cream" and "cherry" on top of the whole routine for the perfect combination. Those types of routines are much more appealing to me and I am always finding something new and interesting that I can take away from them and utilize in my own practice. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_heart1.gif

awwww. I feel bad because I totally missed your performance because it was post mine and I was recovering from my nervousness and suddenly unexpected numb toes. I saw parts of yours but I was hoping you'd post the entire video so I could see the whole thing. I'm hoping to come in July too but I think if it's going to be July 4'Th weekend I might not make it as it's my turn to work the 4'Th at the hospital this year- unless I can find someone to trade my holiday??? (Wishful thinking.) I'm sure your performance was much better than you're giving yourself credit for. We're always our hardest critics. Cheer up Jenn, if anything you can say you were looking smokin' hot in that ensemble you wore! It was such a great experience overall and I'm really glad you came and performed! I think we all walked away from it as a great learning experience with the end result of meeting a lot of amazing people. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_heart1.gif

The one I got I think is the only one they offer. If I remember correctly it measures 4’x4’x2.5″. I was wanting something with a lot of cushion & thicker too but this one works just great. I teach advanced classes & am going to be progressing our tricks & in my opinion, this mat will be fine for my intended use.

I just got a pole mat yesterday that I ordered from the LiL Mynx website. There was a great lack of information out there about pole mats when I tried doing searches so I just went with a company I know. Mine is square & so far I really like it. I used it last night @ the studio bc we have 15 foot poles & it was getting scary doing some stuff so high without one. I love it & am glad I got one. It’s the perfect size for traveling & has enough cushion for comfortable dismounts.
