After selling my first and buying this one a 3rd one just isn’t possible. I think maybe the sticky clothes might be an option. Its been so long now since the studio was open I know I’m just forgetting how bad my skin was on brass but I’ve always had issues. I guess I just wasn’t “meant” to pole. Ugh. I was always told it would get better but after 2 years it doesn’t look like it! 🙁

Yeah 🙁 I’ve always bruised easily, even on the brass poles in class. And PAINFUL bruises. My teacher told me my pole at home is very painful. When she shows me stuff here she tells me it hurts her too. It’s very frustrating because I can only practice my routine 3 times and then I need to stop because of the skin damage.

It’s smooth! I hadn’t done any inside leg hangs on my left leg in over 6 months I think. It was really irritating my leg, lots of bruising and pole burn. One too many practices and it started bleeding.

I sold my chrome pole because of slipping problems, and powder coated was recommended to me. Brass was too expensive. No one had told me powder coated was meant to be used with clothes? I have private at-home classes once a week with my pole teacher right now because of the pandemic and she has never said to wear clothes with it. It’s an x-pole BTW.

Mine are popcorn to the extreme, they’re absolutely hideous haha. But thankfully I haven’t had any issues since that one time. I probably over-tighten it now!

Can you use a mount if you have a popcorn ceiling? I assume no? I’ve never had problems with my pole thankfully, just one minor slip one time, so I always check it before using it now. I wish my apartment had “normal” ceilings.

And sorry, can you please link me to which ones I could work on while I’m still off the pole? Cheers

For the monthly option, can you cancel at any time? How much notice do you need to give before the following month? Is it in US dollars? Thanks 🙂

Thanks for your reply! Yes right now I need to wait until the pain in my back goes away before I can even attempt getting back on the pole 🙁 I will definitely start with conditioning exercises and try to get that muscle built up for sure. I don’t even want to attempt shoulder mount training for a LONG time.

I actually have another physio appointment in January at a college (cheaper, my insurance is awful) so my 2nd opinion is not too far away!

Do you have an email I can write you about the class prices/packages?

Just re-read my (terrible) answer about conditioning. I guess we really don’t do any proper conditioning. The warm-up, while 15 min (in class, and at home when I do it) is off the pole, mostly stretching. The “conditioning” part is climb the pole, do a few inverts, maybe a few tucks/pikes.

Had to go waaaay back in my videos to when I first started!

36 second mark, you mean this for fan legs?

Just the usual warm-ups like always. Conditioning would be doing pencils, tucks/pikes but not too often to be honest. A couple V inverts each side. A warm up off the pole would be about 15 min following along a YouTube video (when poling at home). Otherwise at the studio we do a full warm-up of course, but everything has been shut down since September (we’re in our 2nd wave)

I do spinning classes outside of pole (also shut down since Sept) but that doesn’t do much for my back.

Not sure what you mean by the side pole hold method? Or different grips for SM?

Yes for inverted crucifix, not sure what a shoulder slide is or reverse elbow means.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6G7pY2ioYBc Around the 40 second mark is that what you mean for the handstand?

I guess every studio has different names for things! Haven’t heard of a caterpillar before either…fan legs you mean from standing? I think we did that in basic.

At my studio we have basic, level 1, level 2, level 3. I just graduated level 1 before the 2nd lockdown. I’m attaching my cards so you can see the moves I’ve completed.

Thanks so much for the reply!

PS: I can’t actually do a shoulder mount, it’s literally just the training where you just try a couple times to lift for a second each time. But just doing it a few times sets off this injury every time.

Ok great to hear!! I am literally slathered head to toe in arnica gel and just hurting like no tomorrow.

I’ve been working hard these 2 weeks to put together a Halloween video and I’ve now decided to take 3 days off completely otherwise I won’t be filming it at all. Yesterday was just so brutally painful I can barely touch my skin! 🙁

But it’s wonderful to not have any sliding issues at all. I put on some Dry Hands once at the beginning and never again, what a difference! Thanks for letting me know my skin will adjust. I was literally thinking, damn should I have just saved up for awhile and gotten brass? Am I just not meant to pole?!!?! hahhaha 🙂

    Thanks Veena 🙂 xx

Ok thank you. I did and he responded with:

“It is possible that just the powder coat itself is sticky. I can get a pick up and delivery scheduled for you for an additional cost.”

Having zero experience getting this done I am at a loss whether or not I should proceed with them. They have good Google reviews (do mostly car parts I think).

I am going to go with black (I see most powder coated poles come in white, pink or black) in hopes that the paint would be similar.

In your expert opinion does his answers sound OK to proceed?

Ok so I should tell them glossy and smooth? I have no way of getting to their shop to see samples because I don’t have a car, and it’s impossible to get to by public transit…ugh.

Ok great! Thanks! For some reason I had this horrible image of it coming crashing down in the middle of the night LOL. It’s in the way of my kitchen table but at least during quarantine it’ll make setup a bit faster if it stays up a few days here and there 🙂 Thanks for the replies!

Ok makes sense! I didn’t know clothes were a must haha. The only places I’m finding around here seem to all be car/motorcycle related. I guess as long as I show them where to stop and to avoid the holes it should be ok? I might have to wait until this pandemic is over.

Hello! Its been awhile, I ordered the grip wrap and WOW. Sticky x10000000000000 Absolutely impossible to slip off. It’s great. Except it tears my skin and I was bleeding yesterday lol :/

I think I’d still like to powder coat my pole (and then use the stunt grip when trying something I’m really not comfortable with so I KNOW grip won’t be an issue)

Are all powder coatings the same? The place in Montreal like I mentioned hasn’t ever done dance poles but AFAIK powder coating is powder coating??

Thanks for your replies! So I’m wondering if it could be a combination. I tried practising again yesterday. For the first couple of minutes my grip is great (using a bit of dry hands as well) but then it’s like once my hands are warmed up that’s when they feel super slippery. The longer I pole the worse it seems to get and I’m putting dry hands on constantly. I’m able to do some “harder” spins but eventually I had to put on my gloves.

I also slipped while trying the Superman and fell but thankfully I had put a pillow down 🙁 I just can’t trust my grip on this chrome pole.

The wrap looks super interesting – I think I’d rather try this before powder coating it. I will measure my pole and see if I can still order it given the Covid issues at the moment.

Thanks for your continued help it’s really appreciated. I want to be able to practise!

If I decide to try the wrap, do I measure the entire pole or where do I stop? (I know powder coating for instance doesn’t go right to the bottom)

    Hi Veena,

Thanks for your reply. I’ve been using carpe lotion nightly since we last spoke in the other thread and its helped tremendously. I still have a bit of sweat when poling but I haven’t had to wear my gloves once at class again (on the brass). Maybe I should try warming my pole longer at home, I have it on the highest heat for about 20-30 min. It’s like as SOON as my hands start grabbing the pole and I have one or two climbs in it’s already slippery. I just don’t get it.

Do you have to re-wrap with Stunt Grip every time or does it last a few sessions? I’d be interested to try that first over the powder coating.

When I was looking at X-Pole’s site again, they mention powder coating is for max grip so I’m definitely curious but realize it’s a permanent thing.

    Thank you for your help

I would take too much of a loss I think if I were to try that. Just the exchange rate kills me. I was quoted about $125 from one place, so I’m more interested to hear about people who have done it to their poles ideally. I did a quick search already but hopefully some girls who have done it can answer. Cheers!
