It is a variation on the twisted/flying ballerina.  Here is another vid of her doing it:

I will get a video up in the next few days with the moves.  I need to get a new app to edit my clips because my current one is terrible.  I am currently shopping around for a nice one sicne I need to get back to make my tutorials as well and I want them to be good quality.

I didn't get to film last night unfortunately because my boyfriend needed my ipad to do homework 🙁  But it was loads of fun.  Feel free to switch some of the moves up or add your own!  We definitely decided that the tuck spin and the sword were definitely the most difficult to combo.  Sometimes they worked most times they didn't.  A lot of it is luck of the draw with what moves you roll.  I might take those two out and add in like another chair and carousel so you have a greater chance of rolling those as they are good to combo in and out of.

As far as getting to the site I am not sure why you wouldn't be able to…. did you paste the link into your browser??  I'll try to link it on the post, let's see if it works:

A side note since I forgot to add it to the details.  We have a different colored dice for each one so 1-6 is easy to identify.  This can be remedied by rolling the dice one at a time if you don't have different colors!

This used to frustrate me so bad when I was first dancing because I felt like it really killed my flow since I had no idea what to do on the bottom third of the pole. I’m thinking of making a compilation video, I’ll link it when I do!

I have silks and I would highly recommend hiring a rigger.  You can usually find a local one for a reasonable price.  Do Not try to rig the mount point yourself.  Special calculations need to be made because it's not just something you are 'sitting' on.  There will be a lot of bouncing and jolts to your support system and you need to know it will hold.  Last thing you want is to come crashing out of the ceiling.

This site sells the items you need aside from the ceiling mount to actually 'rig' your silk and they have instructional videos on how to set it up (this part you can do yourself): http://aerialessentials.com/videos.htm

This is where I personally got my 'silk' from (make sure you get the 70 denier poly interlock knit): http://www.efabricsupplier.com/category_s/51.htm

They have material on the first site too but I didn't need it as long and I didn't want to pay that much so I went with the second site.  But if you need more than 10-12feet use the first link.

    🙂

I LOVE Lululemon.  They consider themselves yoga wear but their shorts and their sports tops are amazing.  Really good quality, super comfy, very stretchable and moves with you.  They are a little pricey but I finally bit the bullet and bought a whole outfit from them and I have no regrets.  I think it is definitely worth saving up for.  Really good quality.  If have a local store near you I recommend going in as they do have sale stuff.  I got my shorts on sale for $30 (down from 45) simply because they were phasing out the particular 'color' I got.  I have the boogie short and the plunge top and they work perfect for pole.

I rubbed a pea size amount on my hands making sure to get around my thumb and inbetween my fingers then rinse with luke warm water until the white color dissolves (about 15 seconds) then pat dry.  There was no grittiness or residue to get on the pole.  Then cleaned pole with Rubbing Alcohol and it worked like a charm!  Nice secure grip without that tacky 'stuck' feeling of using grip aides.  I could still slide my hands around on the pole to manuver by not gripping so tightly but when I was in full squeezed grip they weren't going anywhere!!!!

Wow!  Those are not only hard to do but the balance and the flow.  Amazing.  The one handed press up was particularly good, don't think I have ever seen anyone do that before either.

The one I posted is different.  The arm is not behind the pole.  The whole torso sits to the front resting on the back of the shoulder by the neck and is hooked with the back of one knee, other leg extended.  Also it is not held with any hands.  Probably similar to get into but definitely different results.

Good Job!  I know when I got close, like within 5 inches, I seemed to be stuck there.  I had to lean back and flex and point my front foot to 'scoot' down into it.  But I've had it since then 🙂

I would highly recommend Alethea Austins DVD's for either pure splits or stretching for pole.  After doing the DVD 3 times I could to the splits and I had never done them before in my life, not even as a kid.  Make sure with the wall stretches you don't just sit open.  Best wasy to lengthen muscles is to flex then relax.  So sit legs straight against the wall, toes pointed, muscles flexed for 30 seconds then drop to open, flex for 30 seconds more, then relax open for 30 seconds making sure that when you go from flexed to relaxed you are dropping open wider.  Then close and flex straight for 30 seconds….. repeat.  It will lengthen the muscle AND build muscle memory.

I don't have too many issues with grip as I am a fanatic for washing my hands with dishsoap before poling and consistent alcohol wipe downs but I will definitely try this for those occasional humid and diffuclt days!

I didn't read all the comments so excuse me if I repeat someone's advice.  You should definitely rank your moves.  As in your should be able to do Extended Butterfly, Caterpillar, and then Aysha.  This is mostly because in that order they are increasing in difficulty and each one build up strength for the next one.  So for now I would forget the others and focus on Extended Butterfly.  I will tell you how I learned it because I struggled with it while having a strong butterfly just like you did.

Extended takes more control that a regular butterfly.  On a regualr you have the calf of your hooked leg to stabilize you and on extended you do not.  Your ankle is on the pole, yes, but  you will have to balance your body to not just roll to the side or even off the pole.  This is how I learned:

    -Invert.

    -Come into crucifix

-Use your low hand (for me my left) and your thigh muscles to pull your body into an upside down squat.  This is like the first position of Caterpillar before you push the legs back up.

-Get a good grip with top hand and make sure pointer finger is down in the bottom hand to keep your wrist aligned correctly.

-Release you knees from the pole keeping your ankles squeezed together at the top.  This will allow your upper body and your bum to fall away from the pole where they need to be and you have your ankles to help you find your balance.  Only move on once this pose feels secure and stable

-Keep the left ankle pressing into the pole and release the right ankle dropping back first in an attitude (bent at the knee) and then once that feels stable your can straighten out from the knee.

Let me know how this works for you.  I can put up a vid for you if you would like 🙂  Definitely get a strong Extended before trying things like Aysha.

I am an advanced level and with the exception of subscribing to studio evens for a few months I am fully self taught. I didn’t subscribe to veena until I was at an intermediate level so you can definitely progress by yourself. Just be careful and take it slow. Progression of a beginner takes longer because you are building a lot more new muscle than an intermediate or advanced level IMO. You can always ask if there is something specific you are struggling with and your will get help.

Just please please be cautious and be well read on pole safety. I see a lot of self taughts not taking proper precautions and injuring themselves because they don’t have an instructor there to help them or give them tips.

I wash my hands with Ajax dish soap directly before poling.  Then I dry my hands and clean pole with 90% Rubbing alcohol.  Alcohol can be rubbed on hands and body for grip issues as well.  Works amazing on chrome 🙂

Just get it clamped/banded nice and tight overnight and you shouldn't have any issues with it coming out of the seam.  A little does go a long way though.  Oh, and when you press it closed and band it if any seeps out wipe it off so the outside of the shoe will remain clean 🙂

I'm a big fan of gorilla glue.  I used to be an exotic dancer and it's what I used on my soles when they would bein to peel.  It has to sit overnight with pressure on it just fyi so put the glue on and then tie it/band it somehow overnight.

I feel like it should have it's own name because putting elbow hang into google or Pole Dance Dictionary just brings up the embrace.  We should name it!

I don't have one yet but I will be getting one in a few months when I move into my house.  It's my understanding that it replaces the dome and if you look at the slot on the dome and the slot on the mount they look the same.  So the top adapter should sit fully into the mount just as it does in the dome.  Sorry if that didn't help at all!  Good luck!

I just posted my first pole video on here!  It was by no means perfect and I nit picked it to death before I finally decided to put it up.  Just go for it!  Everyone on here is supportive and if you put it up and tell us what you don't like or need improvement on we can give you suggestions on what to do or things to try.  It will end up being a really good progress tool for yourself to go back a month later and look at that video and see what you have improved on and what might still need work.  I know when I was a beginner I really liked to see videos of girls that weren't 'perfect' it made me feel normal lol and inspired me to keep going.

July 16, 2012 at 3:27 pm in reply to: Is 30 minutes a day enough?

I think especially in reference to pole 30 min is an amazing workout.  Defnitely rest 1 day in between all strength training, it gives your body time to rest and actually build the muscle which will build it faster in the end, but stretching can should be done daily.  As far as time goes really push yourself for those 30 min.  I trade off days doing one day strength/learning new moves and then the next day stretching/transitions/fluidity.  Rinse and repeat.  Also as you continue to advance your 30 minutes will contain different moves which will work different body parts.  Mixing it up is really important because the body can get used to the same thing when its done over and over and that is when it starts to decline in effectiveness.  So keep doing what you're doing and don't worry about it!  It is an amazing exercise but don't forget to have fun too!!  Get lost in the music and don't worry so much about it being a 'work out' 🙂
