Congratulations, Doctorsbaby, and welcome to the world of poling! I, too, am one of the "older" polers at age 44. I started this journey at age 38, 4months after having my 2nd baby. I was never one to exercise before, instead relying on good genes and natural skinniness, but once the 30's came around and I had children, all that went out the door! This is THE BEST form of exercise that I've ever found and the only one I stuck with! I may not be as flexible or as strong as the younger girls in my classes but I can sure keep up with them! LOL

Good idea, nerdasourous (heehee … LOVE that name!)! I'll send you my info soon. I'll be with the 4 other Hawaii gals so I'll have them send you their info too 🙂

So far myself and for other girls from Hawaii are going! I hope to meet some (if not all) of you there 🙂

corby – For pain and bruises, I've only used Saje's Arnica Rescue Ointment and the Recovery Ointment. They work in conjuction with each other and I find my huge purple bruises disappear within 3-4 days if I apply per instructions. I want to try Pain Release and the Muscle Melt but like I said before, shipping to Hawaii is expensive! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_eek.gif
I've tried some of their other products and I liked them all. I suffer from migraines and the Peppermint Halo works well for me. It also works if I have an upset stomach (rubbed on belly) or for occasional insomnia. I also have the Stress Release roll-on which I find works superbly for PMS irritability or bitchiness caused by having to work with irritating co-workers. LOL
Dang! They should pay me for marketing their stuff! hahahaha!

Forgot about my least favorite …
It's got to be this one that I picked up from Vitamin World: http://www.vitaminworld.com/arnica-871/arnica-cream-008641. It's quite cheap but I didn't think it worked at all … or if it did, it didn't work as fast as the other two I mentioned above.

I'm a third person liking DVK's Black and Blue balm. It doesn't sting, smells nice, and works quite well. Plus the tin is small and light-weight so you can easily carry it around in your workout bag, purse, or even pocket.
I also really like this ointment from a Canadian natural wellness store: http://saje.ca/all-natural/remedies/arnica-rescue-natures-remedy-ointment.html. It works the best for me so far but it's quite expensive, is only available in Canada, and the shipping to Hawaii is astronomical (around $19 last time I checked)!
So until I can get back to Vancouver (and that's not anytime soon), it will be DVK's Black and Blue balm for me!

Lulu … I just LOVE how you totally rock it with all you've got! I love your confidence and sexiness! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

I work as a licensed civil engineer doing project managment in municipal wastewater design. I work with mostly men … in fact, my immediate co-workers are all men … so I don't usually talk about pole at work. All of the 7 women that work on my floor DO know that I pole, though, and are very interested in trying it one day! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif Oh … and my boss knows that I pole. I had to tell him when he called me in to ask about the bruises he sees on my legs/arms. Gotta love a concerned boss!

I saw this woman on the news today as well. It’s scary how badly damaged her skin is AND the fact that she is oblivious to what she is doing to herself. I live in Hawaii and I don’t go tanning at all; SPF 30+ all the way for me, baby! LOL! I wish I started with the sun protection even earlier so I wouldn’t have the sun damage that I have now although it’s minimal. It’s sad that with all the information out there about the dangers of UV exposure that tanning parlors are still popular.

I'm like Ewa Tran … the Lululemon Boogie Shorts does not work for me. I found that not only did they rest really high on my waist (i'm short-waisted too), but they rode up my thighs and gave me camel-toe! YUCK!! They also gap anytime I did a vertical split move. Not good at all.
I like PoleSkivvies butterfly shorts and I just ordered me a couple of BadKitty Brazil scrunch shorts which I'm looking forward to trying.
One comment I have to make and I hope I don't offend anyone: I spot a LOT of girls at the studio I pole at and I can't tell you how many whoo hoos and butt cracks I've seen when spotting girls in the Aysha or any type of vertical leg splay handstand. Ladies … please please PLEASE wear underwear under your shorts or be postively certain that the leg holes of your shorts do not gap!! For the sake of your spotter if for nothing else! I've seen right into the shorts of some girls that just wear the short boybrief-type or even right through the ones that are actually boyshort underwear. (Of course, I'm talking about shorts that are not specifically for pole fitness) This does not make me a happy camper, especially since my face is usually right up to their crotch. MemberMay 1, 2012 at 2:15 pm in reply to: Laughing my BUTT OFF ( have any of your friends done this)I totally do this, too! If I was poling before we bought our current house, the one we have now would not have been my first choice, mainly because of the low ceilings. Girl, it makes me long for my small 750sf 1920's bungalow-style "house" which boasted 12ft ceilings! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

Going thru my iPod playlist ….
I Love Rock n' Roll by Joan Jett & the Blackhearts
Nasty Girls by Vanity 6
In My House by The Mary Jane Girls
and anything by Prince 🙂

Burnin' Up by Madonna … can't get much 80's than that https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif
Cradle of Love by Billy Idol (though that may be early 90's)
Give It To Me by Rick James
What can I say? I'm a child of the 80's. LOL

Hmmmm … maybe I'll finally do a challenge video! I choreographed a chair routine for our class a few years ago. Maybe I'll do that one. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif Now I just need to go buy a chair for dance use; I've only got those tall-backed formal dining room chairs right now.

That's totally it! I always tell people to aim for their butt crack when bringing their hips around the pole! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

I'm glad I stumbled across this post. I'm in the same position and like nymphdancer, I've been poling for 5 years but feel as if I only have 1 year in actual pole time. Between a full-time job, being a mommy to two young ones (ages 5 and 7), and my husband, I hardly find spare time to breathe much less pole. I have my pole setup in my living room so it's easily accessible but I never get on it! If I try to and my kids are still up, they want to get on the pole too; plus I can't practice the sensual side if they're around https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_eek.gif. LOL! Then after they go to bed and the household chores are done, I'm just too tired. I still haven't found that perfect balance but am glad to know I am not the only one!
I am making a commitment to start practicing every Sunday morning, though. I'm moving my pole to our unused studio/storage in the back of our house and converting that to my "pole room". Hopefully that works and that I can get my little ones to honor the fact that when Mommy is in there, it is my time to exercise and not their time to play on the pole!

oh, forgot to mention that my hubby said i could make the extra room into my own pole studio regardless if i dance for him or not but that he just REALLY wants me to dance for him! kinda of cute, huh?

omg … i have the same issue as Queenie426 and one of the other ladies (thanks, tarah!) on this forum sent me here! i've been poling for a little over 5 years, have had my pole for 4 years, and my husband has NEVER seen me pole. sure, he's seen me practicing tricks and i've asked him to be my spotter when i was teaching myself something new, but i've never danced for him. he just asked me yesterday to dance for him and now i'm a nervous wreck! i can dance sensually for the ladies in my studio just fine but when i think of dancing in front of my hubby, my mind goes blank.
but now my hubby has uped the ante: if I dance for him, i can buy another pole (xpole xpert 45mm titanium gold) AND convert our unused studio into my own pole/exercise studio! so, i'm going to read all the articles you ladies referenced and maybe get some ideas and work up the nerve. wish me luck … and i'll let you know how it goes!
(btw i'm not as good as you'd think after 5 years; i only get to practice about 1x/week 🙁

That's Jenyne when she did a workshop at our studio here in Honolulu! She's such a great teacher and an extremely nice person! I was fortunate to be able to take an advanced class from her. (Btw our studio here in Honolulu is called Fit For A Goddess. Drop by if any of you find yourself on Oahu! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif 😉

Oh gosh … I'm old so for me it would probably be some disco or early 80's tune. I actually think the first tune I bought was "Funkytown" by Lipps Incorporated. Oh gawd … now that's embarrassing! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

MemberOctober 15, 2009 at 4:45 am in reply to: Just curious, how many ladies here are in thier 50’s?Thank gosh for this thread! I was just in a chat room last night and asked the girls there is I was the oldest poler on this site. I’m going to be 42 next month but feel just the same as I did in my 20’s. My life is sure different from my 20’s (marriage, kids, career) but I don’t feel any older, know what I mean? I’ve been poling for about 3-1/2 years and can do many moves that young ones in class can’t do. In fact, I’m teaching them how to do them! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif
Lilbit – I just took a look at your profile and pics and … Dang, girl! You look good!
