My understanding and according to veena's lesson, the hand of the shoulder mounted on is low and the other high. I sm and shoulder super invert on my left shoulder, left hand low and other high.
Also, my understanding of sm flip is over the shoulder that is mounted and low hand.

The other day I tried going into gemini or scorpio and it's doable, just need to work on cleaning it up. I'll post practice of it in few days.
I've tried ther shoulder mount flip with veena grip, as that's how I was taught, but still can't get the flip, so tabled it for now. I'm sure other more accomplisher polers can give you more ideas.

I live in Madera and go to Twirly Girls studio in Pleasanton on Saturdays as often as I can. She has a 45mm titan gold xpert. and has 50mm & 45mm platinum stage poles, stainless steel finish. I don't know if you want to try those. Have you contacted any other studios in bay area? Awesome that you have a fitness room!

Welcome to this site and pole journey. As others have said, take your time, practice and don't compare. Everyone develops strength for different thing ad different pace. It took me couple of years to manage shoulder mount (which was NEVER on my to-do list) and it's STILL hit and miss depending on my body and brain. Aerial invert is also still a work in progress, although getting better. Taking it slow and letting strength develop is important. I start out at baby steps and don't attempt the full move right away. Also, in the beginning I wanted to attempt as many things as I could or saw, then realized working on what I've already learned to improve and get stronger was more fun and not discouraging. Then other things come a long. There are still things I want to learn, but have plenty to work on now.
As for style, I have tried to "dance" and find a style. I'm just too funky at it for me. I pole for fitness, exercise, etc. so if I dance, fine..if not, better LOL I do try to use flow and keep moving, but not as much. I have more fun when I'm just practicing and getting a good workout. By the way, I recently watched some of my earlier videos and realized I still constantly look down towards the floor AND my free arm still hangs limply not doing anything, too funny!!!
Flexibility is a big down-fall for me, especially since I don't work on it much. It hinders some of what I would like to learn, but that's me 🙂

One is from San Jose area and the other in Pleasanton. However, we are leaving Wednesday because they are taking the xpole cert; and we are coming back Sunday. We have yet to make final detail plans as far as where to meet, time, etc. I don't know when you wanted to be there, but more than welcome to hitch with us. Do you have a room or someone to share with?

I'm on my 4th pole in 4 years, however, bought two within a few months! Years ago I started with a 50mm lil mynx ss, few years bought a 50mm xpert titan gold; Then last year or so bought a 45mm chrome which was a struggle for me. So ended up with a 45mm xpert titan gold. If you plan on competing, others might suggest a 45mm. You can still learn on a 50mm and then practice and perfect on your 45 if that's what you get.
I'm sure others who are stronger polers will give you advice.

I'm working on strengthening the negatives for pull ups. So far I do palms facing me. I've done four pull ups but not completely straigtening arms in between, that is much harder. On a good day I can do two true pull ups, but also starting with a little hop up, so still cheating 🙂
I got the Iron Gym (as seen on TV). They had this one and another xtreme with more handles, etc. I didn't get the extreme version. Also want to start using it for knee & leg raises eventually.
Even with all the poling I do, these are freakin' hard!

Wonderfully put, pegasus! Loved this statement: This is not a linear workout.. you have to let the pole hold you up… not the other way around.

As far as strength, when I started pole over four years ago I was very active with regular gym workout, did interm step aerobics, an awesome powerflex weight class, etc. None of that made a difference with pole, it was as if I'd never worked out before. Pole was a whole different world and I had to start all over with strength building, etc. I couldn't do a pole hold or anything. I kept at it and strength came. I remember having the deer caught in the headlights look for new spin or trick LOL
The hardest thing to learn was taking my time to develop strength and not rush to do something I wasn't ready for. Thus, had to stop for a couple of months due to seriously pulled muscle in rib cage attempting basic invert by kicking into it. I actually thought I fractured a rib. I share this, not to scare you, but encourage not to rush, more importantly don't compare yourself to others.
Unfortunately pain is part of it as you and your skin get used to a new spin/hold/trick. I've accepted I may not get everything and doesn't matter what others are doing; and if I'm doing the same thing over and over, that's okay as long as I work at it getting better, etc. That being said, can't wait to see your journey and happy dance with you as you begin accomplishments 🙂

Will post clips soon to make sure I'm doing it correctly and for tips. I really, really like the veena grip. Just need to figure out how to do sm flip with it now.

So I'm going back to strength practice for it from the floor to get confidence back. I do like the veena grip for super shoulder mount as per veena's lesson here. Also to practice sm flip, which has been a "flop" for me LOL.

I tried oovoo with the gals from FB, but videos kept going blank and couldn't accomplish time together. So turned it off and practiced by myself. Are you going to be practicing Sunday?? It's already 5:30 PST, so your day is almost over.
