I don’t take mine down for any guests. Right after I got it we had some old college friends over that we hadn’t seen for years (all males) and my husband took the pole down (allegedly for my comfort although I doubt this). I didn’t think I would be, but I was miffed that it was down. I am ridiculously proud of it and what I have learned, and it bothered me that I suspect he might have been a little embarrassed about it. We had a discussion about it and if he was embarrassed, which he won’t admit, he’s over it now. I can’t think of who I would take it down for. I tell just about everyone I know that I pole. Mine’s in my bedroom simply because that was the highest ceiling with enough space so I think that probably makes some people a little uncomfortable but they’ll get over it–I’m not uncomfortable with it. I’ve had contractors in there and haven’t had any weird comments or anything–everyone has been cool.

I don’t know who the Veener is but I love the idea of the pics at home. Wish he had done more!

Jsheridan, I am very interested in your input as well as I have also considered getting certified. I am a nurse and would be interested in combining nursing with a training certification to be able to work in wellness/health coach/cardiac rehab type jobs. I might also consider some personal training on the side.
HonieT–sorry to hijack your thread. 🙂

Meg, thanks for sharing. I hadn’t seen Mark Buhanstov before–I really like his style–very cool (and masculine).
Papaya, welcome! I agree that there’s no need to wait on buying a pole if losing weight is your concern–might as well get started–the weight loss will come. I’m looking forward to seeing who else fellow Veeners will suggest, but I’m sure you’ll develop your own masculine style.

Mine are under the muscle and they don’t cause me any trouble. As Lilredrobinhoob said they do move a bit weirdly with pec muscle contraction but it’s mostly covered by clothing. Silicone wasn’t available when I got mine so I don’t know much about that either. Agree with Lilred that talking with your surgeon about your activities is the best way to determine which way to go. I would also recommend talking with more than one surgeon for an opinion.

Ditto many of the other comments. I have a 45mm Lil Mynx SS and I love everything about it EXCEPT that it is so dang slippery, especially this winter when the humidity is so much lower in my house. I love that it goes up and down in a second. I love that it’s one piece and goes from static to spinny in a flash. I think it’s beautiful even though it’s just a silver pole. However, I find it impossible to grip with thigh or knee without grip aid whether it’s warmed up or not and I have tried all the tricks on here. I have also tried all the cleaning ideas to no avail. Even with grip aid my thigh and knee holds are marginal. Relatively speaking I stick like glue to the brass Pole Danzers at my studio.

I’m so jealous! I can’t get my husband to even try it.

MemberFebruary 17, 2014 at 9:34 pm in reply to: Broken toe — again — do not want to be this fragile!Lisa, I’m 44 years old and finding myself somewhat fragile for the first time. I have always been very sturdy, participating in all sorts of stuff, often with no training or preparation, and never getting hurt or sustaining any injury. However, about a year ago I started having some knee problems and find myself much stiffer and more in need of the chiropractor than I used to be after some of my activities. I’m afraid it might be just the way it goes. I am definitely more cautious in what I do now because I don’t want to sustain any injuries that will keep me from being active for the rest of my life. I still do nearly everything I want to do but I’m more thoughtful about it and take my time more than I would have before. I don’t think we’re too fragile to do the things we want to do but we may have to do them differently or think about how to do them to stay healthy.
I would imagine your doctor would have already thought about this but perhaps some screening tests for osteopenia or osteoporosis are in order just to make sure that’s not playing a part here–lab work, dexa scan type things.
I find my fragility frustrating too–hang in there.

@FoolsErrand What’s good for the goose is good for the gander. I think the same rules should apply to the girls and the guys. If girls can go skimpy, boys can too.

I have gone to a chiropractor as needed for more than 20 years. It has been hugely helpful to me. I only go when I tweak something or other. In fact, I’m thinking about going tomorrow for a “tune-up” as I call it. I have a muscle in my neck and upper back that gets tight and painful when I need an adjustment. If you’re thinking of going, ask for recommendations from people you know.

Happy 4th birthday! You have a great attitude–way to take your diagnosis and turn it into a positive life changing attitude!

What a great bonus–not only do I love poling but my arms look better at 44 years old than they ever have. I did an obstacle course race with my husband and two other guys this past summer and I daresay I did better on the obstacles that required upper body strength than they did–don’t tell them.

My ipad is a 2, and I have not downloaded the new IOS because I think it is going to slow it to a crawl. My computer is an HP Pavilion Entertainment PC that’s probably at least five years old running Windows 7. I just brought up my husband’s laptop which is less than two years old and your website is normal speed so I’m guessing it’s just a whole lot of stuff on my computer that probably shouldn’t be there.

This may not be the most helpful response because I suspect you’re looking for a schedule or training plan, but I just do what I can when I can, choosing the activity by what I feel like or what I haven’t done for a while. I have many type A tendencies so I find that if I set a certain schedule for myself with specific goals like saying I’ll work out six days a week and two days will be weights and two days cardio and two pole or whatever, then I feel like I’ve failed if it doesn’t happen. I find that too often life gets in the way of those plans and since I’m not some kind of professional athlete or something, there’s no reason for me to stress about it. I work out as often as I can, probably 4-5 days a week and it can be anything including weights, treadmill, fitness video, yoga, flexi training or pole. I figure any day I do some kind of workout is a good one, but I don’t stress about the days where I don’t do anything. It sounds like you’re doing a lot already. My only thought for you would be to make sure you don’t feel compelled to fit all of those things in on a specific basis to the point of not getting to try something new–like trying a different workout class or going rock climbing or something else active–it all counts in my book.

Firebird–totally! Would love to go to the club and watch Darcit show us how it’s done!

CrazyKosters that does sound a whole lot like the flu, comes on fast and knocks you down hard. If you’re four days in, you should be on the mend soon. Usually ends in about five days but can last up to a week. Just take it easy and allow your body to heal and you’ll be back on the pole in no time. Unfortunately there is not a whole lot you can do for the flu except ride it out.

Thanks for sharing–I had not seen that. Her performance exactly demonstrates one of my (several) concepts of what pole really is–in this case, to me, a vertical gymnastics bar–beautiful.

Darcit, I have found your replies to this question fascinating…and empowering. Thank you for sharing your insight.

She sounds like a great instructor.
And, I love it when you post on here–it’s always great to hear your perspective.

I don’t have an Xpole so I can’t help but I’m excited you got him to put it up! Yeah! I’m sure someone will have a suggestion for what could be wrong. Wish I could help.

@sieira My husband was not that keen on my pole going in the bedroom either but that is really the only place for it. I specifically bought a Lil Mynx because it goes up and down in seconds and he said he didn’t want it to be up all the time, and I didn’t think I would want it up all the time either. However, I’ve had it probably four or five months now and have only taken it down maybe three times. It turns out that I LOVE it up because I think it’s beautiful, and it doesn’t bother him at all either even though it’s pretty much right in the middle of the walkway. I also keep asking for more mirrors, which he initially was against also. He said it’s not about looking like a porn set (which I understand), but more that he would like the bedroom to be decorated nicely. He recently told me to go ahead and get more mirrors and his reasoning is that he sees how much poling means to me and how much I enjoy it and he doesn’t want to be in the way of that. My husband doesn’t really have a hobby that he’s passionate about like I am with pole, but he recognizes what it means to me. Maybe you’ll have a similar experience if you can get him to help you put it up. 🙂 Good luck.

I used to get lots of calluses when I did gymnastics a million years ago (from the bars). When they got too big then eventually tore off, which was pretty painful and a bloody mess. After that I filed them down with a pumice stone type thing, just like you would calluses on your feet. I haven’t gotten any from pole but that’s how I would treat them if I did.
