I shave too although I have gotten brazilians before and I did like them, they’re just too expensive for me right now https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif I’ve tried those at home bikini wax strips and they don’t really work for me but I am mexican and lebanese so I have very stubborn coarse hair that doesn’t want to come out for me ever! so that could be why they dont work. i heard somewhere that taking a few tums before a wax helps desensitize your skin, someone who gets waxes regularly will have to try that and tell us if it works!

MemberNovember 22, 2010 at 6:45 am in reply to: How to shape your eyebrows to flatter your face tutorialI would say the best thing for you to do is to invest in having them professionaly waxed or threaded so someone can shape them for you and then you can just maintain it yourself by plucking the stray hairs. The place I get mine threaded at is cheap and I am out the door with a threading + tip for $10 so it’s not a huge investment like a bikini wax etc. I usually suggest this to people because they will be able to give you the most flattering shape and you don’t have to worry about trying to shape them yourself/over plucking etc. I actually just go get mine done every 2 weeks because I don’t want to try to take on the task of shaping them on my own, I could beat Frida Kahlo in a unibrow contest https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

I had the same problem you do until I started dating my bf who does hair and he flat ironed it for me and it looked amazing, his secret is he does tiny tiny sections, maybe like half an inch-inch wide and not very thick. He clips my hair into 4 sections (divided in quarters) and flat irons it by section so he can grab little pieces. It takes some patience/a little more time but I feel like once I take the time to flat iron it really well in little sections, then later in the day or the next day (I wash my hair every other day) when I go to flat iron it again it takes much less time to iron it since it will stay fairly flat from the first ironing. Also if you get a shine spray or thermal heat protecting spray, I feel like those do a lot to help smoothing it out. I have curly hair too, it’s quite a project to keep up with it!

There are TONS of drugstore colors that could be identical/almost identical to MAC products….too many to list here really but if you go into a MAC store and find an eyeshadow or lip color you like you can probably find the same one at the drugstore. NYX and Milani are two really good lines that have a lot of MAC copycat shades but sadly they don’t carry them at stores in my neck of the woods so I haven’t used any personally but I’ve heard a lot of good things. Also L’Oreal collagen volume mascara works way better than the $18 super fancy pants mascara I got at MAC, I ended up returning that one and buying another bottle of the L’Oreal stuff because the MAC one didn’t work the way it was supposed to at all! I have had good luck with most L’Oreal products, they make a fabulous eyeshadow primer that is around $7, and as of right now I don’t know of any other drugstore brands that make an eyeshadow primer which is a necessary item for every girl’s makeup bag IMO. The only drawback to the drugstore brands is that sometimes they don’t have quite as much pigmentation as the more expensive brands but a little eyeshadow primer will fix that immediately so you don’t have to keep slopping on more and more color. Using eyeshadows wet will increase the pigment but that makes it harder to blend them so it does take a bit of practice. I do think it’s worth it to splurge on a few expensive makeup items now and then especially if they are skincare related, but buying more expensive products that help enhance other products (like foundation primer, etc) can make your drugstore foundation look like a million bucks for practically nothing.

I know Alethea also uses the Mynx nails but she seems to like them a lot but if they didn’t work for Verucablue then maybe they aren’t all that great, I haven’t used them personally though. But the cheapest and fastest way to get a good manicure is to go to your local beauty school, they usually do them for about $10-12 so you will get out for $15 total including tip and they are supervised by instructors so it technically is still a spa quality manicure. I have also heard good things about the gel nails too, and a lot of manicure places near me have specials early in the week where it’s a little bit cheaper. Maybe I should start a topic for beauty tips for people on budgets, I know I fall in that category for sure!

MemberNovember 17, 2010 at 2:49 pm in reply to: How to shape your eyebrows to flatter your face tutorialNo prob Tarah! I am going to post a makeup video tutorial later today and I fill in my eyebrows with eyeshadow in it because it looks much softer than using a pencil so maybe that will help you also. Thanks for reading my little article! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

Makeup that is flattering for 40+ skin
How to apply eyeshadow to Asian eyes
How to apply liquid eyeliner
How to create the cat eye wing tip eyeliner
How to cover undereye circlesKeep them coming! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

MemberNovember 16, 2010 at 6:02 pm in reply to: How to shape your eyebrows to flatter your face tutorialYou read my mind because I just realized after I posted it that I didn’t include how to cut the ones that hang over. I will try to explain it here but I will make a video later so you can see what I’m doing exactly and you don’t accidentally cut the wrong part whoops! If you have one of those mascara wand type things with the comb on the end, you would brush your hairs straight up and then cut the ones that hang over the top. Does that make sense? Make sure you always push them up above your brows and cut them only at that angle otherwise their length will be too short and it will look weird…I learned that the hard way https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif

Horsecrazy hopefully after my tutorial you will feel comfortable doing it at home https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif I’m going to post it in a few mins!

Ok I am pretty sure I’m going to just take a photo and draw on it so you guys can see how they should be properly shaped to suit everyone’s face shapes, that seems easier than it would be if I tried to explain it…but I can make a little video of how I fill in my eyebrows if you want to see that too https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

ok good to know there are some ladies who would like a tutorial! Since I am mexican and middle eastern I have the thickest eyebrows ever so I get them threaded at a salon….like I could win a contest if it was between me and Frida Kahlo for best unibrow…it’s seriously gross LOL so I need an extra pair of hands to help because threading gets all those stubborn thick hairs that don’t want to come out. But I do pluck them in between to keep up on the shape and I had to be tested on eyebrow shapes to graduate makeup school so I promise I won’t steer you wrong https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif I should post a before and after picture so you can see them, it’s so bad!

Hi there! Yes I can definitely make a tutorial for you ladies https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif I’m not sure if I’ll do a video one or just some photos because it might be easier to explain how to figure out where the arch goes etc. through a photo. That is my project for tomorrow…after I do my own eyebrows that is! I am overdue and I can’t do a tutorial if my own eyebrows look bad
