Chemgoddess-def not due to lack of strength because when I go to the studio, I have no problem sticking the moves. It’s just my home pole that is slippery at the time of yr. I don’t put itac on my hands, just my legs.. Though I guess that naturally in order to apply it, some residual stays on my hands. Littlelindsay, thank you for the tips, I will check those products out! Appreciate your help!

I took a break for a few days and was as good as new. I have the same soreness after my Saturday class but not the same intensity as my original post. I think those muscles are just weaker than I thought and are being challenged in very new ways.

Hi guys, good advice, thx! I was taught an invert during private lessons as well as in a class setting so I’m pretty confident my technique is correct. I’ve either been sliding down or going into a crucifix position and just coming down that way, as if from a hand stand.simply put, I think it’s just easy to overdo it when You have a pole at home, lol.

Oops, wasnt done. Anyway, just wondering if anyone else has experienced this or if anyone has any tips? I don’t think I should be feeling those moves in my back, so maybe I’m doing something wrong? Very perplexing!

RoseMay, thanks, that makes a lot of sense! I dont necessarily have sweaty hands (maybe mildly so), its more that my pole is cold and in the winter I have dry hands so a really BAD combo! lol. so you use the vinegar to wipe the pole in place of alcohol? when does the rubbing alcohol come in? maybe at the end of the pole session to wipe/clean it down? lemme know! thx again!

love that i found this tip! i recently got a pole for home and while i have decent grip at the studio where i dance, my pole at home is literally as slick/slippery as glass, rubbing alcohol works for 30sec MAYBE. lol. put the vinegar on our shopping list today and already ordered itac!!! i'm SO excited! whats the difference between itac and dry hands??

    Hi all,

thanks for the tips and suggestions. i'm still a newbie (been poling about 5-6months) and still going to class once/wk but now that i have my own pole, i want to be able to do more and progress faster. i'm looking for something that focuses more on tricks and technique, hand placement, muscle engagement, etc.. not so much sexy /slinky/dance-y stuff. i like the idea of downloading pole 101 from amazon, thanks sonicXplosion! : )

I've been poling since July of this year and going to classes only once/wk (the classes arent cheap) plus an occasional workshop here and there. I'm not progressing how I'd like to, so I've invested in getting a pole for home! Its coming home with weekend, yay!! I plan to purchase some instructional DVD's and probably sign up for StudioVeena's lessons as well so I can progress faster. You should do the same! A lot of people are self-taught. : )

Thanks guys, good suggestions. My only concern is that the pole will be in our bedroom which is close to the bathroom since our bathroom is inside the bedroom (small apt), and gets damp/steamy after showers. we of course have a fan running and the AC unit as well to help circulate the air so hopefully that will be sufficient.

    HotPhlip,

I too am a beginner, started poling about 6mo ago. I've been doing inverts for a couple months now but no, I don't remember any type of rib pain/soreness. I definitely had some muscle soreness, but mostly just from my muscles being challened in a new way, nothing was especially uncomfortable. Are you self-taught or have you been going to classes? I think that as a beginner, its really important to go to classes or have private lessons (or both!), or at least pole with someone who has been doing it for a while so you can develop good technique and proper form. Its so important to have a solid foundation beforte getting into all the fancy stuff! Remember, its all about the quality of your moves, not the quantity! Happy poling! : )

    Hi Ly,

There is a sat morning "pole fusion" class which is from 9:30-10:30 and combines pole technique/tricks with dance and is more for intermediate/advanced levels, otherwise there is "total pole" (which is the class i go to) from 10:30-11:30 which focuses solely on technique and tricks. that one's also intermediate/adavnced but the instructor will cater the "trick" to your level. she goes around and gives everyone one-on-one time and lets you know how to modify it to your level. hope that helps. i don't think carpooling will work though because i need to be somewhere right after class. are you gonna be able to make it? it'll be cool to finally meet! thats the day i'm buying the pole from one of the other girls! yay!

    see you sat! : )

    Actually, "de-slipperize" sounds better.

hi Ly! so to get to poletential – i take 85N to 101N to woodside, then left on middlefield. after the 4th light, there are train tracks and you take the immediate turn to the right after the tracks. then you just keep going straight past the trailers and turn left at 2682, think its the second left. i unfortunetely have a very limited window on when i can go (pretty much only saturday mornings, the "total pole" class at 10:30).. let me know if that works. i'm there every saturday and the instructor (ellen) is GREAT! its $35 for a drop-in. let me know if you have any questions : )
