Thanks for all this great advice! I admit that I’m guilty of just repeating the invert obsessively, rather than doing specific conditioning exercises. I’ll definitely work on those tucks, straddles, and pikes, and take another look at Veena’s invert program.😄

Great advice! You’re so correct about the lats, Runemist34. I keep forgetting to engage them! And I’ll practice more fan kicks as well. 😀

They are adorable, grayeyes! Not what I need for this routine, but maybe I can find another excuse to buy them…

Yes, MdawWat, still struggling with this move! I’ve tried all the options, but think I need to work on more stability with my bottom hand and shoulder. I can’t find the Superman Spin, so, if you could point me there, I’d appreciate it!

Thanks, StrangeFox! I’ll try your tips. I tried the invert entry last night, but couldn’t quite manage it. There’s obviously something that my body’s not getting. My lower body is pretty dense while my arms are skinny and stringy, so it may just be that I have to become more stable with that lower arm gun grip.

Thanks! I’ll upload something when I get a chance, Veena. I just tried to upload my video from the PSO competition in Florida last August (Level 1, Grand Master), but the file is too big. It’s really clear in that video how awkward my spinning pole technique is. Since then I’ve actually avoided taking video of myself on my spinning pole because I’m so frustrated with it.

Thank you, Veena! I have looked at many of your spin tutorials, and they are great. I seem to just be developmentally delayed when it comes to landing and transitioning spinning pole moves. So I was hoping to get some really specific help with that. It’s especially challenging for me because I haven’t had any live classes in spinning pole. Tutorials are awesome, but sometimes I need a live person!

Great advice about the slip-ons, Cherished. I was concerned about the shoes falling off, so it’s reassuring to hear they’ll stay on.

Thanks, Dustbunny! I’m a beginner, so I tried it with beginning spins like fireman on a static pole. I got pretty stuck.

Thanks, Runemist34! I’ll ask some of the other dancers at my studio as well, and just keep experimenting. 😎

Great advice, ladies, and I’ll take it! I have been eyeing the titanium gold pole, but first I’ll continue to experiment with grip aids, including Veena’s combo, and buy a pole warmer!😊

Thank you so much, Veena! I have Mighty Grip, but need to get some . I’ll order some and try this immediately. I am always cold, even in summer, and my hands and feet never sweat, not even in hot yoga, so this should be a great help!

More great advice, Baudelaire and Veena! Baudelaire, I actually teach yoga, so the yoga recommendations make perfect sense to me. I had actually overtrained with the handstand practice a couple of months ago and really irritated my right shoulder joint, so I had backed off for a while, but I’ll resume carefully again at your suggestion. I broke and dislocated my right collarbone in a cycling accident in 2006 and had a couple of surgeries on my right wrist to treat a bizarre staph infection in 2013; I’ve healed fairly well from those traumas, but still have to be pretty mindful with my right shoulder and hand. I love the stall bar suggestion, too! I’ll check out my local YMCA and see if they have them yet. And I’ll definitely check out the related lessons as you suggest, Veena.
Thank you both so much for your responses! It is really gratifying to be a part of such a supportive community. 🙂

Thank you so much, Runemist34! No, I can’t execute a one-handed chair spin. I will definitely work on that before attempting the reverse grab, and I’ll work on the cradle and tuck as well. This is exactly the kind of advice I was seeking! The studio I attend teaches the reverse grab early, and I really felt that I needed foundational moves before I could execute it. Your suggestions are really helpful. Thank you again!

Congratulations to all you goddesses for making such positive changes after 50! And I’m so glad to hear that I’m not the only 50+ woman who has taken up pole dancing fitness. At 56, I’m a runner, cyclist, and yoga instructor. I am also a professional bodyworker and own a holistic wellness center. My daughter introduced me to pole dancing and pole fitness several months ago. Because of my age and because I’ve had several traumatic injuries to my right shoulder and hand, I wasn’t sure I’d be able to do anything on a pole. But I love it! I’m making slow progress, but I am making progress, and my right hand is stronger and has a better range of motion than I ever expected it would after its injuries. And I love Veena’s instruction. I joined a local pole studio, and I love that as well, but there are many things they don’t have time to address in class. I realized that if I wanted to develop any kind of skill that I would need to get my own pole and practice at home, so I did! I’d love to perform at some point in the distant future…maybe when pole dancing becomes a part of the Senior Olympics…:-)
