You make great points CJ! I have also hurt myself before because alcohol. That was when I first started pole and I learned quick not be drunk or even drinking and using it but I do have an occasional little party and we drink and play on the pole. I know a lot of people are guilty of that and there are bars that have them. When you think about it, it is a horrible idea. You make very good points. I have hurt myself more times on alcohol then ever and not pole related either. I have had concussions, broken nose that required 2 surgeries and possibly one more and it slightly fractured my eye socket. Also a broken hand, and numerous other little injuries from alcohol and the liquid courage it can give me. I am way more careful with anything now days when I drink and always try to use better judgement but alcohol does impair it and yes it does make your muscles all loosey goosey and a high pain tolerance. I have always never had a hangover after poling though lol but it probably is best not to mix pole and alcohol. You shouldn’t mix anything with alcohol lol.

  • That is awesome!!

If I owned a studio or was doing parties, I wouldn’t allow alcohol at all. I think the ones that do are just setting themselves up for a lawsuit and a bad rap sheet. If I was going to peoples houses for parties then I would use my better judgement on who could use the pole and would not allow any inversions. I would also have an extra liability waiver. I however play on the pole with friends at my own parties while drinking but I know what I can do safely now and never use my pole if I am drunk. I do not allow inversions at my house with drinking either. As far as studios go that should just be common sense I would think.

Yay! I would be careful with inverts until you know you are strong and comfortable with it and ,ake sure your hands and legs are grippy lol. Spotters are good IF they know how to properly spot. I like the lessons here. They are easy to understand and follow and take safety first. There are also free lessons on youtube etc.. but be careful with those, a lot of them are not educated on anatomy and physiology and some are just outright horrible and will set you up for injury if your not careful. Just my 2 cents 🙂

Just wanted to let you know that you have to be member to view the videos unless you make it public. Even then, unless you directed anyone with a link to your video, the chances of anyone outside of studioveena seeing it is pretty much non existent. Your images will not show up either in any search engine or google images. If anyone outside of this site did somehow see anything, you would have to ask them why they were looking up or googling pole dance stuff lol.

I forgot to mention that I have had similar pain in my right hip when I twist with certain things and stretch for middle splits. My hip has a chronic history of rotating forward and being a little uneven. This has cause bursitis in the past when I was in the army. It acts up every once in a while and I have to take about a week or more off of anything that aggravates it when it is hurting. Try not doing anything that hurts it for a while and then make sure you are really warmed up and stretched before trying it again. I also used to get this pain when going into handstands by swinging my leg up. Consult with your dr or chiropractor to see if it is rotated. Work on conditioning exercises for your hips. Hope that helps!

I do this move but it is dangerous. Pole is dangerous.. Try having your chest facing the ceiling and NOT turning into it if it is causing you pain. This is a public forum and just because you know the dangers, doesn’t mean someone else reading this does. No one is being mean to you, don’t take it personal. You are really not supposed to twist into this move that much, it might look pretty but unless you have the strength its not going to be good in the long run. A lot of people develop problems with this grip, just don’t over do it. My 2cents…

I have mine in my living room and wouldn’t take it down to please anybody. If someone has a problem with it, that is their problem. They don’t have to come over. Just tell him that your sorry he feels that way and it must be hard for you in life to be so ignorant. Or tell him to stay in a hotel if it bothers him that much… Especially making public comments about it on fb, I don’t know the story or what was said but if it was my brother or anyone for that matter, I would have defriended him until he could be more respectful and mature.

This is a great post, thanks for sharing! I to have come a long way but still feel like I have more bad days than good but it is usually pretty insignificant in the bigger picture. Actually the longer breaks served me well and helped my body I think. There were some things I couldn’t do as well or anymore after a few months of not really being physical besides a few spotty pole days but I re-learned quick and actually gained some flexibility.

I just look at the past year and few months that I have been doing pole or anything really physical since my injuries from about 10 years ago in the army. I have come along way in strength, flexibility, and confidence the last year and I try to not focus on the set backs from here to there, just look at the whole picture and how far you’ve come since you started (true for anything in life). Even though I have set backs and loose certain things when I don’t practice regularly, I am in better shape then ever. The United States Army couldn’t even do this to me! True story 🙂
