acd3k and Madame, a little back story.

Every few months there are new members that come on here and start off asking relatively normal questions and then start going into how XPoles are not *real* brass, how you can get lead poisoning from the chrome poles, how PS are superior because they are made in the USA, and several other tactics.  Typically these new members with no pictures and the threads turn into what is referred to as trolling.  As soon as the words *real brass* were used that triggered in me (and I am sure many others that have been here and gone through this over the years) a response of "oh, please, not again".  I apologize if I came off as harsh and quite the B**ch but there was a method to my madness. I hope that the two of you stick around and see how incredible this forum is.

There are a couple things at play with stainless.  First is the composition as there will be different alloy percentages.  Second would be how the steel is actually cured/cooled as this will affect the crystal structure and porosity.  Last will be finish.  I can honestly say I have been on both highly polished and matte finish SS and the mirror finish is by far superior.  I had just recently linked a pubmed study but if I recall it was a study on the difference between brushed and smooth brass.  There was a pretty good discussion regarding finishes I think in Lyme's thread about her new brass pole (crap, not there…now I have to go search).  AZnyway, the crux of the study was that brushed brass was superior when hands were wet or soapy, polished brass was best when hand were dry.

I had made this anology…pull out a quarter and a nickel and then slide your finger over the end of it.  It will be much easier to move over the ridged surface than the smooth.

I REMEMBER….(I think)….Possibly the thread about making a pole that was swirled different materials!

I only got condescending when I was greeted with attitude myself.  Look at my very first post in this thread.

My understanding is that XPole is not solid brass because it is too weak of a material.  Even Pole Danzer has a dual tube design.  In order for the XJoint to work properly it has to be able to expand and the thin walls of the tubing are not strong enough to withstand the outward force that is needed.  It is also my understanding that it is a double wall technology, not a "coating".

If you do not think that brass can snap in half, think again.

Comps just depend on who is doing the rigging.  And what may be standard in the States will not be the same in other countries.  None of us even knew about 38mm brass until Bobbi's got really popular.  I have been to strip clubs that have brass, stainless, acrylic, spin, non spin, and even painted.  I have been to numerous studios and can tell you that every single one was different.

It is not a coating, it is an anodization process.  The entire pole is still titanium, there is just a current of electricity passed through it at a specific frequency that changes the oxidative state of the top layer of the titanium to make it appear gold.  Titanium can be anodized into pretty much any color of the rainbow.

Do you have the picture posted on the web somewhere?  If you do, right click on it and select copy link address or image address or whatever comes up.  Next, click the little box between the U and the https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif in the box above.  This will open up a box.  Right click where it says URL and then paste the link that you just copied off the web.  In order for this to work the image that you copy HAS to be a picture file extension.

Otherwise, load the photo to your profile and then just link it into this thread.

Oh, yeah, I was only able to find them at a little hardware store that carried metric.  Lowes and HD do not carry metric, but I did not mention this since I thought polegal was not from the states.

Please do not buy into the hype about what is *real* brass.  Brass is not even REAL.  I can only assume that you got that "knowledge" from PS as that is one of their favorite lines.

TG is not a coating and SS is not the industry standard.

I personally do not like stainless as it is the most temperamental metal *for me*.  There are many the LOVE stainless as it works well with their body chemistry.  My suggestion would be to visit a pole studio where you can possibly try the different finishes.  Not all stainless is the same.  LM tends to be slick, PS not so much, PoleDanzer is similar to XPole's chrome.

    OK, so basically:

A multipiece pole makes it easier to to move and you can move from house to house or room to room without having to buy a new pole.  For anyone living in an apartment or thinking of moving in the next 5 years this would be your best option.

PS multipiece poles HAVE snapped (I have witnessed it), but supposedly they have changed their design to meake the threading longer than it used to be.

X has a better sleeve design.  Many complain about the sleeve on the PS and just basically turn it into a top loading instead of a bottom loading pole.  AerialGypsy has done this, she would be a great contact.

PS still has issues with the threads not lining up properly.  This has been an ongoing issue for several years and it is a crap shoot if you will get a pole that screws together properly on the first shot.

There were issues with spinning XJoints and the sides of the tubes on the X's flaring at the joint but I have not heard of this issue since they redesgned bot the tubes and the joints (about 14 months ago).

NO multipiece pole is rated for above 12 feet, so if you have higher ceilings you are stuck with buying a one piece.

I think that pretty much sums it up.

Now this is the largest of the set screws.  I think the others are possibly 4's or 6's.  What you want is called a set screw.  The 8×8 I believe is 8mm x 8mm.

I was able to find them at a hardware store.  They are metric which will make this easier for those every where else but the US.  Here is the information for the one that strips out the most:

    5.  Stripped X locking set screw.  This is the set screw that keeps the pole locked into the stage.  I am not really sure how you strip stainless but we manageed to do it….twice.  I have an idea on how this happened and it comes down to being in a rush to set up/take down poles and not having the hex key in all the way.  M8x8 is the set screw that you need to replace them.  The ones that XPoles uses have an oval bottom….I have been unsuccessful in finding those (and those that know me and my searching capabilities, seriously, these things are next to impossible to find).  The standard cone bottom will work just fine. Lowes and Home Depot do not carry metric set screws.  I ended up at a little ACE Hardware store.  Also, The Grabit Broken Bolt and Screw Extractor, size 2 is what you will want/need to get this screw out.  I tried a few different styles and this one by far is the best in this situation.  I got mine at Lowes for about $8.

And I would think nothing of a 7 or 8 years old shirt riding up.  Nor would anyone in pretty much all of the European countries.  When has it become okay to pass our hang ups onto to other's children?

I cannot remember for sure if the bearings on the X are totally enclosed or partially.

The total center part of teh dome is the bearing : http://news.buydancepoles.com/files/2010/12/x-pole-top-dome.jpg

This is what the bearing looks like if it was not in the dome:

    http://www.bearings-china.com/pixviewer/2.jpg

The inner ring should rotate freely with just your finger.  I had an issue with my bottom bearing when I got my pole….it was actually impinged when they set it into the bottom of the A pole and they sent me a whole new threaded section.  A small drop of light machine oil in the grooves may be all you need.  Typically if you have a sewing machine or electric razor you get a tube of machine oil.

No, tight xjoints will not cause that.  I would suspect that either one of your bearings has gone bad or they need lubricated.  Ther are bearings in both the top and bottom of the pole.  Where specifically is the squeaking coming from?

    Define great.

Your question is so broad that it is difficult to answer.  If you tell us what you consider "great" then maybe we can help.  Some want to be sexy, some want to be able to tell a story, some want to be tricksters, some want to have the flexibility of a contortionist.  Also it helps if we know a little about your background.  If you ahve no dance/gymnastics/martial arts/etc background it may take longer to get where you want to go.

If you can afford a gym membership you can afford the lessons here.  They really are cheap.

Or you can go and look over at Oxygen Magazine.  Not only do they have new workouts every month they will also teach you how to eat for the best gains.

If I land a back hook I almost always do a chest down/ass up dive yo the ground and then reposition my legs.  I rarely land a front hook.  Instead I typically bring my unhooked leg around while I am spinning and end up in a double leg front hook.
