I do not change my leg positioning at all. I am going to try to break it down as Pantera taught it to us during a workshop. First, she had us get into a handstand from the ground. You can just invert but you want yourself close to the floor. When you are hanging, place both hands on the pole right in between your breasts. Push your arms straight out so that you are doing an inverted plank on the pole. Now as you are pushed completely out engage your hams to lift your butt…DO NOT change you hand positioning. Don't be upset if you fail at this first time around or think it is impossible. This is how many polers are able to do a one handed caterpillar climb. At the same time it really rounds out the backs of your legs giving them great shape.

I will also add that this move is all about your hamstrings pulling you up, not your arms pushing you into position.

Can you do an inverted crucifix (bat hang) without hands? If you cannot hang without using your hands I would scrap trying caterpillar until you can.

It kind of depends on how tall you are. For me to do a reverse grab I need a good 5-6 feet (150-180cm) radius. Even doing a push up dismount from an invert is going to be tight in less than a 3 foot radius. Forget shoes. I think you will find yourself extremely limited with only that amount of space.

I am sure there is a lesson but I am kinda learning it on my own. I have more issues with this because my bow is not all that great. I am fine on the ground but once I get into the air it is horrible. With me it is more about my shoulder flexibility or lack there of.

For both this and rocketman I go into a pole sit, bring my body around to the front of the pole (I climb with my right foot so I bring my body around to the left of the pole). At this point you kinda have to be able to stay on the pole using only your knees. I reach my right arm back and grab my right ankle. At this point you really have to squeeze that armpit against the pole and then have faith. I usually will hold on with my left hand until I feel "set" and then release my left hand and try to grab my left foot and arch. To make this really pretty you kind of have to lean forward on the pole to get your legs higher.
Rocket man is 10 times easier (at least to me) and will get you accustomed to that armpit hold. Basically bring yourself around on the pole as you did to start yogini but reach back with both arms. I grab my left wrist with my right hand and squeeze like crazy and then release my legs. I have not tried it one handed yet….that is next.

Eva-do you have chemists where you live? They may be able to make you a solution of 5% acetic acid, which is all that distilled vinegar is. Wine vinegars typically are not as acidic and may have more sugar content…read, sticky.

I have been working on reverse armpit holds lately….rocketman and yogini. I also was playing with drops….knee hold to holly drop and the superman drop (which still freaks me out). I would also suggest learning how to do butterfly and caterpillar with the opposite hand down. How are you with everything else in your arsenal on your opposite side?

BTW….they have videos of all of the exercises on that website.

I know a few that are devotees and there is even a big Crossfit event at The Arnold every year. I have mixed feelings about it. I don't think all of the exercises that they do are body friendly.

I inverted way too early in my pole journey and ended up hurting myself. Now I lifted prior to starting pole so i had decent strength. This was also about 3 years ago when there was not a whole lot of great instruction. I wish I would have known about tuck inverts and control.
As for how long it takes, it depends on how often you are working on your strength and starting point. Some it may take only about a month, some it may take 6 months or longer.

Are you also strength training at all? For me muslce gain = loss in flexibility. Also if my muscles are tight I have issues. Foam roller or massage works wonders for me.

GAH!!! Why do pictures do that?? They show up fine in the preview then go screwy on the post.

There have been a few threads on here regarding wearing of the gold on the TG poles. Some have been really bad and some not so much (I don't think Veena's has worn at all). You can anodize titanium and aluminum…those are the brightly colored jewlery you will see. All they are doing is passing an electrical current through the metal and getting an oxidized state of the metal…this is what gives it color. I ASSUME this is how they are creating the gold finish on the TG poles. I am not POSITIVE that is how they are doing it. Titanium is a dark silver color metal. It is very light and very strong.

For me the trick to this is allowing that bottom hand to slide down the pole a little as you are pushing on the pole to get yourself straightened out. That bottom arm needs to be straight and when I start that mine is usually bent a bit and not forming the proper angle.
