It depends on what your goals and ambitions are.  If you are doing this just for you to have fun go with whatever is easier for you.  If you are hoping to compete one day the standard is still 50.  There are a ton of ladies who have been where you are and have over come their grip issues.  As far as I know, 45's were not even around 3 years ago so pretty much every performer out there that has been at this for some time has learned with 50's.

Google Pantera.  She is the only one I have seen use it routinely.

This is a question to ask X Pole directly.  They have great customer service and can answer any of your questions and will do it happily.

Being a new mom you will find it even more difficult.  You will seem like you are being pulled in so many directions that the first thing that always gets put aside is YOU (come on we are women, it is how we operate!!).  The only thing I can suggest is to start by doing just one thing for yourself every single day.  And I mean EVERY day.  Treat it like eating or sleeping….you cannot exist without that.  It can be as simple as wearing lipstick or doing your hair or it can be taking 10 minutes to jog in place or do sit ups or researching healthy recipes.  DO IT EVERY DAY…no excuses!

There is a studio in town that mainly teaches childern all sorts of different circus skills….pole, silks, balancing, stilt walking, juggling.  He has been on the news a few times and also does parades.  His son was featured in Pole Spin magazine (http://polespinmag.com/welcome/2011/03/kidsonpole/).  There is a comp coming up in Denver that is going to have kids and I think they are trying to work on something for the APFA comp in October.

I was at a break dancing comp this past weekend with kids that were just barely walking doing all sorts of break dance and balance moves.  If people would get the notion that pole is scandalous out of their heads we would not see so many of these stories.  Kids take gymnastics at early ages, swim, play at the playground on jungle gyms….really, what is the difference?

The top of the pole is higher than the ceiling tiles but we cannot remove the ceiling tiles completely due to building codes.  We have cookie cutters that we hot glued onto the tiles that the tops of the poles stick through.  We set the stages up and take them down for class.

I know that Mary Ellyn has videos up from the Detroit showcases and also the 2 Midwest showcases.  There are a few ladies that are not a size 2.  Lori Martin amazes me all the time…she is over 6' in all of her glory.

Oh,I don't know if any of you have seen the new XPole that was at the Pole Convention.  It attaches to the ceiling with a pivot mount and then can store attached to the ceiling.  So basically you just swing it up out of the way.

We have Lites where I teach and I have had guys on it without issue.

You can see them starting at about 5:20 in this video.  And that is me screaming in the background to start and then me in black a little later screaming yet again.

This is what I would imagine if the female body builders used a pole in their fitness routine.  She has crazy huge arms and shoulders!

I am not sure where you are located but Mary Ellyn from Empowerment Through Exotic Dance has a cert program that not only covers teaching but also running the business.  I believe that much of her course can be taken online.
