I have seen other articles that state blood clots and even blindness can occur.  So I am going to have to disagree that this would make a great challenge.

There is a reason it has not been done.  Physical exertion while inverted for that long can easily make you pass out.

"There are inherent dangers to hanging upside down for any length of time. The danger is related to an increase in blood pressure. Under normal circumstances, the heart does not have to work very hard to pump blood to the head, and it can rely on gravity to pump the blood to the toes. When the body is flipped, however, the heart must work harder to counteract gravity and pump blood all the way to the toes. Blood may accumulate in the lungs; they may stiffen making it more difficult to breathe. Also, blood can collect in the head making it more likely that a stroke or brain hemorrhage can occur. It is well-known that high blood pressure is bad for the body and can lead to strokes, so hanging upside down for any length of time seems to invite problems of that nature. The question of how long a human can remain upside down without serious risk of death or injury remains unknown. There are few studies on this matter."  Quote excerpted from this article: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/magazine/7633617.stm

The problem with audience voting is that is is based on who you know, not necessarily having the best performance.  If you do not know the judging criteria then it is nothing more than a popularity contest; and those that live in NY have the upper hand when it comes to people in the audience.

Matt's style is more acro/circus, if you did not figure that out already.

Aerial at Sokol is in a huge gym and the last time I went there were a lot of people.  (To me it seemed like too many).  Her rigging is higher and expect to be there LATE into the evening if you can stay.

Cleveland Exotic was trying to have monthly pole jams on Friday nights.  I think it died down a little over the summer but I expect that they will pick back up once fall hits.  We also have a facebook group so if you send me a message I can friend you and add you.  We generally post events on that page.  Last weekend a bunch of girls performed at a show and we are also having the pole put up at the beginning/end of Cleveland Slut Walk next month (as requested by the organizers).

Jasmine Dragons does cater more to kids but he has a few aerial classes in the evenings too.  He does both lyra and silks.  Not sure if you get pole spin magazine or not but his son and the kids from JD have been in it a few times and they are the ones who opened APFC last year.  This is Swift and Matt up in Detroit last year:

Matt is the one wearing the hat.  He is the owner of JD with his son.

As for Akron Pole Dance, I have no idea.  As I said, I have contacted them several times in the past to come down and check out the studio and never got a response, neither from email nor contacting them through facebook.

If you have any questions at all just send me a message.  I have been to all of the studios pretty much in NE Ohio and will give you their strengths and what style they cater to.

There is not anything in Akron.  There are silks in Chardon and Cleveland though.

There is Akron Pole in Akron but as many times as I have contacted them to come for a visit they have never contacted me back.  JLynn87 on here has a small studio at her apartment where she teaches privates.  Besides that you really only have Cleveland.

I use it and I have seen both Alethea and Karol taped with it.  The KT Tape brand has really good videos and instructions on their website and on youtube.  You can find that brand at Walmart for about the best price, but they do not carry all of the pretty colors, just basically blue, black and nude.  While it does not cure or eleviate all pain, it has been a blessing some days when my shoulder is acting up.  It typically takes 2 people, at least on the shoulders and arms, and you will probably waste a few strips just getting the hang of getting it on right.  The stuff is stretchy and I have a bad habit of pulling the backing off too quick and it doubles up in itself.

There are several in NY.  If you state a neighborhood it may be easier to suggest one.  Also, what kind of pole dancer are you?  The ones that I know of all have a different feel about them so it just sort of depends on your goals.

Off the top of my head: S Factor, Body and Pole, NY Pole Dance, Shockra.  Aerial Amy is a good one to contact as she has been to pretty much all of them and can tell you more about each.

I always just stroke the pole….no matter what I am doing I have that whole fondling thing going on which kind of doesn't matter what you are doing with your hands.

I LUVS me a spinning climb!  Basically fireman up into a climb.  This all comes with freestyling.  Just pump up the music and MOVE.  You will find that your body will move into position naturally and you will be "hey, this would work here".
