Smaller diameter means less area to cause surface tension. This is a common problem even with changing from 50 to 45.
Here is a thread (with another one linked inside it) discussing the smaller diameter poles: https://www.studioveena.com/forums/view/4e8c33b9-495c-431b-84ec-71ef0ac37250

Ky Kieu Le – there is a place called Smash Gyms (http://www.smashgyms.com/about.php) that looks very interesting between Santa Clara and Sunnyvale (although it looks like they are not a "lifting" gym). Look for the gym where the professional bodybuilders work out and there is where you will typically find the good trainers.
I yelped Bodybuilders in Santa Clara and came up with this: http://www.yelp.com/search?find_desc=bodybuilding&find_loc=San+Jose%2C+CA#find_loc=santa+clara,+CA

What specifically are your goals? Are those goals realistic?
The question that you posed is really broad and without having some initial information about what you feel slimming down and reducing body fat means this is difficult to answer. There was just a good thread about a week ago with lots of information regarding body perceptions and body fat. I might suggest reading through that first: https://www.studioveena.com/forums/view/Lower_Abdominal_Exercises_20121210075628
And I don't recognize your screen name so I assume you are fairly new, so WELCOME!

There is NO SUCH THING as a safe cheap pole. Is your health really not worth the extra money? How much would an ER visit cost you? Missed work? No, I am not being a chicken little. Look up all of the videos on youtube of poles coming crashing down on people; granted some of those were professional poles but teh majority are the cheap ones.
Keep an eye on craigslist for a used XPole, Lil Mynx or Platinum Stages pole.

Massage and chiropractics. Pretty much every serious poler should get in for a sports massage at least once every 6 weeks. I had an issue that finally got to the point of uncontrollable pain and I went to a chiropractor who specializes in sports rehab about 3 months ago. I ended up with a pinched nerve due to improper alignment of my spine between my shoulder blades. After about a month of 2-3 sessions a week I finally have rid myself of the shoulder pain I have been living with for about 4 years.
If it is causing issues in you life outside of pole, get it taken care of professionally.

MemberDecember 20, 2012 at 8:00 am in reply to: Barre fitness vs Pole fitness workouts? Also the place only has one evening class a week (it really caters to the doctors wives that live near the studio) and is hella expensive. Single classes are $25 and one month unlimited is $225 (for having only one evening class). Not a single pole studio in town is charging $25 a class!!

MemberDecember 20, 2012 at 7:57 am in reply to: Barre fitness vs Pole fitness workouts? The studio I attended practiced the Lotte Berk Method and I will say there were quite a few positions that I was put in that were not comfortable for my body. Pole has taught me the limitations of my body type and also to respect those limitations. Granted some of the positions were uncomfortable because of my tight hamstrings, but others just plain had me in bad alignment.

MemberDecember 19, 2012 at 4:09 pm in reply to: Training during holiday saeson, help please!!!Veena has strength lessons here that do not require pole use. There are a ton of videos available at the library. If you have cable there is exercise TV.
But honestly, in 2 weeks you are not going to notice much of a loss. You may even come back stronger because you have allowed your body to rest and rebuild.

The biggest thing to look for is a Crossfit studio that stresses form as well as number of reps. There are MANY bad studios out there that sacrifice form for max reps and poeple end up injured. There are good and bad studies done on the effectiveness of it.

Pole Spin had even done an article on her back in April. Her name is Emily Kreusler and she is not shy at all to talk about it. I was trying to find an electronic verson of the article but I have been unsuccessful.
