It was very sudden for me as well and I was warmed up, it was at the end of my training.
I thought maybe I was tired and overdid my drop split (I did it thrice before I felt pain) and a lack of strength.
I was so angry at myself because I was video recording a choreo for Pole And Aerial ‘s Joy of Dance when it happened (life is so ironic ahah!!)and I wanted it perfect so I decided to do it one more time…and ended up injured ! -
Lina, I noticed it right after my drop split, like a very sudden pain.
I felt something was wrong in my glute / upper Hamstring so I stopped training immediately and put some ice on the back of my thigh and elevated my leg.
The night I got injured, I even felt the pain in my calf and the day after I had trouble walking.
I was able to walk normally after 3 days and to climb up or down stairs with no pain after a week or so. -
Wow !
I didn’t know about anti-inflammatory food, thank you Polebull ! 🙂
I have tried resistance strech (I found the complete Dara Torres method on YT there : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7zO4YGRXiiQ )But I’ve found it quite painful so I stopped because I was afraid doing more bad than good to my leg but I’ll give it a go again now that i feel a bit better.

Same thing happened to me while doing a drop split…
Doctor said I pulled my hamstrings. It’s been almost 4 months and I can still feel the pain despite all the assential oils (you can use Helichrysum and gaulteria with arnica oil),arnica, diclofenac, nsaids, foam rolling and my visits to the osteopath…
However, I can still do the splits (but i do feel “bad” pain so i don’t do them).
I am soooo desperate so I wait for advise from other girls 🙂
Sorry I can’t help you much with that but well, you are not alone in this ! -
Thank you Tropical Pole for that link. That’s interesting and as I thought, I did check most of the assertions.
I think it is a good thing I came to realize that… I can start to work on it now (so proud I only did 20 minutes of jumping rope this morning and a little bit of stretching after that and nothing else – even thought I’m fighting rightnow because I really want to dance around my pole).I can’t afford seeing a therapist or a personnal trainer to balance my trainings.
I know that I have poor self-esteem. Plus, I am surrounded by amazing people with wonderful skills, great flexibility or dancing skills, so I feel bad about that as well.
I know it is a really bad thing to compare yourself to others but well I can’t help. -
Thanks for all your wonderful advice !
I worked hard on my forearm stand and handstand with that L shape you’ve shown Jsheridan.
I did like 10-15 minutes every evening with my boyfriend to spot me as I was afraid of falling on my back and well, I can now do it without a wall behind me !!!
Just as simple as that ! I’m so happy 🙂
I can only hold for fews seconds so I’ll work on that now ! -
I can do handstands against a wall or the pole and hold them for something like 3 sec but I have to throw my legs to get there and then I find my balance with what’s behind !
So I guess what i really want is free standing handstands and control !Thank you very much for that 30 day challenge ! I’ve just finished Veena’s 30 day abs challenge so it’s just perfect timing 🙂

Wow ! I didn’t know you could get online lessons with emil !!! It looks so great !
Just wondering about the schedule and the hour. On wich time zone is it based on ?And, I would recommend Rockin’ Legs ‘n Abs. It worked well on my flexibility when I did the 30 day challenge !

Ah ah ! Mine is also getting Iron X ! I kind of hope I would get it this year but I’m too slow…
But actually, my resolution for 2014 is not really to nail a move, it’s just to manage to find some time to pole..; especially as a relaxing way. I don’t want to feel overwhelmed by my life and job anymore.

That’s clear in my head now 🙂 -
That's an interesting thread ! I'm always in search for a new way of getting out of Superman.
The only ones I know are the Aerial Shoulder Mount and the superman fall (superman into tuck or scorpio).

MemberApril 10, 2012 at 7:05 am in reply to: Alethea Austin DVDs. Progress after a few weeks/months?I also started AA's pure split & stretching for pole few weeks ago. I try to do them once or twice a week and I've seen some results so far, especially in my facial which is waaaaay better now !
I already have my side splits on both sides but I can do them only if my body is really warm and I've done some stretching exercises for hamstrings and quads before, I haven't seen any progress on those….but I'm confident. I'm also doing Felix Cane's Flexibility dvd as well when I've enough time.
As you said Tarah, the first week I was so motivated I started doing them every day (it's written on the dvd that you have to practise 5 times per week to see improvements) and on the third day I wasn't able to do anything and my muscles were begging for mercy so I've decided to give them some rest in between stretching and it's better now. Plus, I think Veena said in one of the streching lesson that you should stretch no more than thrice a week when you are a beginner 🙂

My favourite super sexy 80s song is He's a Dream from Flashdance !

I don't think you should move to the advanced move rightnow if you're just back. You might have the technique but not the strenght and you might hurt yourself badly if you are pushing too much on your muscles. I think you need to get a bit stronger and start again from the begining, doing push-ups and cruches (or you can bring your knee to your chest several times, like you do when you work on your inverted V/chopper) and pole hold.
I don't know if you have veena's lessons but in the beginner part there are plenty of exercices that are good to build up your strenght.
