Wow.  I didn't even know there was a name for the way that I feel, never mind the fact that there are other people out there who feel mostly the same.  🙂  I've never been with or been interested in men, but I do occasionally crush on women.  I also occasionally take matters into my own hands, as it were, usually depending on where I am in my cycle. But, yeah, not a big topic in my life.

I work for the US Government (National Park Service) and I have a smallish tattoo on the side of my neck that runs up to under my ear and so is visible over my uniform collar.  None of my bosses or anyone that I work with has said anything about it (except the occasional compliment 🙂 ).  Admittedly my job is mostly field based, but we do have contact with and interact with park visitors and are required to wear uniforms.  I think that it really just depends on the "culture" of where you work and on your boss' attitude.

Figures.  Chrome is what I need.  I'll give them a call and see what I can do.  Thanks!

Some pole genius mentioned a long time ago that putting packing tape (the thin clear kind) on the soles of your shoes makes dancing on carpet much easier.

I'm having a similar issue with floorwork, so I'll give you some of my own experience.  You just have to practice it, over and over and over.  There really is no secret move or anything like that.  At first dancing will feel awkward.  Remember what it's like when you learn a new pole trick.  The first couple of times you may not even be able to do the whole trick, it looks terrible and feels very awkward.  You practice it again and again and eventually the edges smooth out, the video is postable, and it feels easy.  The same thing with dancing.  Don't worry about looking good right off.  Just start slow, put some music on, and start feeling how your body moves.  Practice, practice, practice.

Thanks for the pointers.  Writing stuff down sounds like a good idea.  I do that for silks to help me remember sequences and instructor's instructions.  Now to get off my lazy ass!  https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cool.gif

Gaiam.com has a lot of all kinds of yoga and other workout DVDs.  Don't know about shipping to the UK though.  Some people mentioned Netflix, but don't forget YouTube too.

That should be the next Monthly Challenge!  How unsexy can you be on the pole?

Clean out and move as much as you can, and be real careful the first couple of times you do stuff.  You will be suprised how far you can kick!  I nearly killed a bookcase and my iPod because I thought it was out of the way when it was not!

I'm no expert, but this article (http://gymnastics.about.com/od/trainingadvice/ss/centersplit.htm) has some stretches that start on the floor.  I also do what are sometimes called frog stretches.  Basically, you lay on your stomach and spread your legs away from each other as far as you can and still keep your hips square and touching the floor.  Then you draw your ankles together, but keep your knees on the ground.  The goal is to get the soles of your feet together.  Your legs should end up looking like a diamond behind you.  The good thing about this exercise is that you are controlling how far you stretch, so you can't go too far.

I don't know if you're doing Veena's lessons, but there's a strength lesson called pole tricep push that works well for me.  I do it on a doorframe when I don't have my pole up.  Also depending on how you do your push-ups, you can target your triceps more. Just keep your elbows in, along your body.

I think that would be useful.  Does anyone know if Skype works on a Mac?
