MemberJune 15, 2009 at 11:06 pm in reply to: Can you guys tell me if I’m being too sensitive?OMG yes, i’m in awe & shock for a 2nd time today! and not mainly because of the horrific experiences that i read about (i studied clinical psych. & also worked in the field, thus i’ve encountered several such stories). What amazes me is the way they were dealt with, the inner strength & willpower used, and the outcome, especially when there was no outer source to have learned such coping skills from!!
Neke & Lilbit, i’m not sympathizing, i’m merely expressing my reaction. Nor am i pitying, how can i pity such strong-minded women?! I’m just so glad & relieved that there are at least a few people out there with your type of character, as it gives so much hope & inspiration for the rest of the world. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif
Because like Neke said, most people with these insanely difficult experiences most often don’t survive to tell their stories, or have not been able to pull themselves out of these situations. Thanx so much for sharing your stories! Lilbit congratulations for everything you’ve achieved, for being such a wonderful person, and for your sobriety .. that in itself is a humongous achievement (i know b/c one of my brothers has been a heroin addict for over 20 years). And congratulations to all the other women & men on this site who’ve made a decision to find their inner strengths & wisdom and use these qualities to escape the demons of the past & fight fate to work towards a brighter future. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_sunny.gif
Glitter you started an awesome thread! i’m sorry if we kinda went off topic- I think your reactions & feelings are perfectly natural (as i said in my previous post), and i too hope you get things sorted with your mom. But the basic point of all this seems to be that life can really suck & be unfair & be a real big bitch sometimes… but fortunately if we try hard enough, we can find ways to deal with it.
Even if we end up with permanent scars, we can at least heal the open wounds and become stronger, wiser people who will be better prepared for the challenges of life. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

Plus i’ll get the best cupcakes ever!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif LOL
Ok seriously though.. I don’t think you’re being too sensitive, i know very well how hurtful in can be to be in that position myself- i too am the oldest, and although i’ll admit that i AM the favorite, my youngest sister is extremely spoiled by my mother. Real quick- i had to work full-time to pay everything from rent to bills to food etc while i was in college (except tuition- my dad took care of that), whereas my lil sis has absolutely EVERYTHING paid for & doesnt work now that she’s in college. And you’d think that I’d be the one getting the most help from her, considering that she didn’t raise me (i grew up with my dad, but moved back to her at 17).But ya know what? i’ve come to realize that i have gained much more respect because of this, & that i really Am more independent, thus my sister needs the help more than i did anyway (although that is cause she was so spoiled, lol).. either way i have come out to be a stronger & more responsible person. I agree with everything everyone else said, and especially what Lilbit was saying. I bet your mom thinks really highly of you, sees you as so mature, responsible, & independent, that it doesnt even cross her mind that you feel hurt by her attitude.
I agree with amcut about writing a letter, or doing what Neke said about asking her out to lunch is a great idea!!
You’re definitely going to turn out a stronger person cos of this, and you should be really proud of yourself for all that you do!! Luv ya girl, and i really do wish to have a daughter like you some day!!!! xxTo NEKE : Oh my goodness girl, you are truly one AMAZING woman!!! I am literally shocked from your post, and don’t know how long it will take me to recover!! I am so proud of you, i seriously cannot begin to imagine how tough all that must’ve been for you.. You have my UTMOST RESPECT forever.. i cannot stress that enough.
You should be a role model for all women. I don’t know of ANY teenager who would’ve handled that situation as maturely as you. You are one real strong strong woman. Be damned proud of yourself. I admire you & i am truly in awe in what an awesome person you turned out to be. xxxxxx -

Hey PDKat! we’re ALL pole dancing buddies here! practically all the active members here share their progress & successes (as well as our difficulties), and we love learning about others’ progress too! doesn’t really matter who’s a beginner & who isn’t, everyone here does a great job in the motivating department & in helping eachother! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif)
What veena said about meeting others in chat & pole jamming sounds like fun too.
And you should definitely post a vid sometime- there’s no such thing as "not worth watching"! i find that even a short vid of a sexy walk around the pole is worth watching!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif -
i love gravity plays favorites! yeah that’s a cool invert, i always thought it was a "brass monkey invert", but flag invert seems to fit better! Being naive & ignorant, this was actually the first invert i ever tried https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_redface.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_redface.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_redface.gif (& failed horribly of course)- https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_redface.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_redface.gif it’s a wonder i didn’t kill myself LOL Silly me https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_redface.gif

i’ve come to realize that different people have a different idea as to which is the "front" and "back" side of the pole- so both foxy & meleania may be saying the same thing.. basic idea is that both your legs are on the same side of the pole, instead of having the pole between them. With practice you’ll be able to hold yourself up no problem!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

Like christie said, people who leave mean comments are just really insecure, and usually don’t have any videos of themselves up! I would either just ignore it to show my indifference, or give a brief polite reply to show i’ve taken it as a compliment that they took the time to comment, LOL.
You’re definitely far from being fat, and a great pole dancer! there are always going to be rude/jealous/insecure people who will do/say anything to either get attention or try to feel better about themselves! -
I’m back! We had a great time, but soon as i got home my internet’s not working! All i can do is get online from work for a little while but can’t watch videos! booooo https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif The internet people said they’ll try to have it fixed by tomorrow- i really hope they do so i won’t miss chat!
Caramel- don’t worry i felt the same way when it was winter here & summer for you! ps i love shrek! -
Jay that’s so nice of you & such a great idea!! i’d love to see anything on this, although i agree with foxy in that i don’t know how much i could benefit from seeing tons of ballet moves- but posture, alignment, arm movement & beginner stuff, and anything that helps with grace would be awesome! i’m excited!!!
-
OMG what a pathetic loser. i just flagged & reported him, don’t know if i can report copyright if the videos used aren’t mine, but i’ll try anyway.

awwww yay for one year of studio veena, and many many more to come!!!!
the only thing i can think of for the challenge is to dress up all birthday-ish, with a "happy birthday studio veena " banner in the background, & dance to a "happy birthday" song!! LOL https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_bounce.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cyclops_ani.gif

Haha Sissy you’re so funny! I had similar issues in the beginning, except for me it was the opposite- i didn’t mind so much my boyfriend watching me practice moves (except for the very 1st day, when i had no clue what it’d be like).. but i really felt awkward dancing with the pole in front of him, even though i dance my ass off in front of him when we go out. Now i’ve gotten more used to it, and i actually wish he would watch me more.. I totally agree with FreeTheSun- watching the practices does kind of take the "awe" out of the performances, at least tricks-wise. But dancing is another story- i think a performance can still be extremely impressive if you learn to incorporate smooth and/or sexy dancing into your performance- even if the practicing and mess-ups have been seen a thousand times.
Maybe you could just tell him that you just want to get a few practices in before he watches you? I mean, that is totally reasonable! But don’t worry, i’m sure that the better you get, the more confident you will be, and you’ll soon want to show off the new spins you’ve learned, not to mention he could be an excellent source for spotting for later moves! Unless you just want to surprise him with a performance- i see nothing wrong with just straightout telling him that you don’t want him to see you practice so that it can be more interesting for him to watch once you’ve learned a few things!!

OMG i got goosebumps looking at that picture!! So glad you’re getting better, nice to have you here with us!

Pole dance challenged? really glitter. thank god most of us don’t take your self-criticisms seriously, otherwise we’d really feel crappy about our own selves if we too considered that YOU are pole-challenged!!! And i don’t care how long you’ve been pole-dancing- the speed at which one learns moves is not what makes a person a "good" pole dancer!! There are people who can learn moves really quickly- some of which don’t perform them in proper form because of this. And others who can do tons of moves, but can’t combine them in dance, can’t put on a continuous performance or get through a whole song (like me), or have little stage presence. Everyone has different things that they need/want to work on to improve.
You, on the other hand, have a sufficient amount of moves down, properly & nicely performed, and have the awesome ability to combine them together fluidly with dancing!! In my opinion, THAT’S what makes the best pole dancer. I’d trade you my shouldermount for your overall performance ability anyday!! Sounds to me like you’re Reality-Checking challenged more than anything else!…. ummmm did you forget that you won at that amateur night???

Don’t know if you saw this already, but there’s a similar thread posted by lily asking the same type of questions:
https://www.studioveena.com/forum.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_brilsmurf.gif When i watch your videos, i always thought that room with 3 poles was a little studio! You’re amazing for having learned by yourself- i really think you’d be a great instructor- i’ve also noticed you know quite a bit about the physiology of the body! Best of luck!EDIT- ok just realized that link isn’t right. you’ll find the thread under "everything else pole related", and it’s on the second page, titled some like "pole teaching certification". There are a lot of good replies giving lots of useful information!

In addition to stretching everyday, there are other things, especially nutritional, that can help with flexibility.. here are some things that i’ve read (and hope are true so that i’m not giving out flase statements):
1) Caffeine & alcohol hinder flexibility (probably by dehydrating the body), so avoid/limit consumption of both.
2) Drink loads and loads of water so your muscles don’t dehydrate and your joints stay lubricated.
3) Taking spirullina (green algae) vitamins/capsules aid flexibility.
4) Taking MSM capsules (good for joints) in combination with vitamin C helps to repair the tears in your muscles caused by stretching, thus allowing for further stretching more quickly.
5) Eating raw (or as raw as you can) green leafy veggies helps with flexibility, as well as being really good for your body in general.
6) Breathing deeply and slowly while stretching will give better results. Also, push slightly more into your stretch while breathing out.
7) Make sure to warm up before stretching, or stretch at the end of your workout. If anyone has anything else to add please do so, and please correct anything that i may be mistaken on!!!
