I ran into a similar issue when I first tried pairing an Xpole with a Platinum Stages vaulted ceiling mount, so you’re not alone. The spinning usually happens because the inner part of the mount isn’t held firmly in place, one workaround is to insert a thin spacer or washer inside the mount to stop the pole topper from slipping all the way through. That way, when you twist the pole to create tension, it actually locks instead of rotating freely.

As for the topper being longer than the mount depth, yes, if left as is, it can push directly against the ceiling. The common fix is adding a small metal plate or using a reinforced dome piece so the pressure distributes across the mount rather than on the ceiling surface itself. A lot of people who set up home studios end up reinforcing the mount area with an extra board or decorative ceiling plate. I’ve seen setups where brands specializing in home interior solutions, such as Art Decor, provide ceiling reinforcement panels that can double as both structural support and a clean finish to hide hardware. That might be worth looking into if you want the installation to feel both secure and polished.

Hopefully that clears up why the pole isn’t tightening properly and gives you a safe path to mount it without damaging your ceiling.
