No worries amasou, the cats will be in my room for the practice. I will clean as much as I can you you feel better. A pole matt is like a gym matt to break your falls during difficult moves. I don't use them much, but they are very useful! Ok I will add your number to my cell and text you.
Cheers!

Great ladies! I will provide the music! (I can hook any ipod to my TV so feel free to bring yours!
I will confirm with you the time and place!
I look forward to a great practice session!
Cheers!

Hi TreePoles!
Yes the practice would be at my place. Small but quiet and accessible! I have one pole, but no mat, you can bring one if you want! 🙂 As for snacks and refereshments, you can bring anything you want but no need if you don't want to. I recommend not to eat too much while practicing… I don't know about you, but it makes it hard for me to flip upside down after eating LOL.

The transition from 45mm to 50mm is not too bad, I did it myself for a special event where they only had 45mm and it was ok. The spins are easier on the smaller pole, but the grip is better on the 50 mm pole, for me anyway. I also have lots of grip (mighty grip powder) if you need it.
Let's make it for next Tuesday then. I will let confirm via text and e-mail. Anyone interested, let me know! 🙂
Cheers!

Hi amasou!
You are more than welcomed to come practice as well! The level does not matter. I am more than happy to help and it's always fun to see what others can do and work with others to get inspired! You don't have to bring your pole, my place only has enough space for one, so we can just share the pole. I have a 50mm X-pole, hope that works! 🙂

Hello Sarah!
That's awesome! We can definitely start whenever you want and any other lady interested is more than welcomed to come as well!
You are too nice to offer me a ride to Kanata! I can't promise I would go everytime, but I will definitely take you up on that offer and try to go there at least once in a while!
I practice on average 3-4 times a week, usually on Tuesday and Fridays (around 4-5pm) at my place, but I can do it most of the other days. I would consider myself to be at an intermediate-almost advanced level so I will be happy to help you as much as I can.
If you are interested, we can start the workout either this week-end or next week. Just let me know what day is best for you. TreePoles, the invitation extends to you as well! 🙂
The only thing is that I have to cats. they would not be in the room with us, but in case you are allergic, I'd rather you know.
Cheers!

This is absolutely true! It seems to be easier to answer when we are asked what we DON'T like about ourselves… but well I have to admit, since starting pole fitness, I have seen great improvement in my figure. I love my rocking body now! Great booty, great curves, great legs and great shoulders! Thanks to this wonderful workout, I have NEVER looked better! I even started wearing summer dresses!

Hello ladies!
I'm from Ottawa-Gatineau as well! Welcome to the neighbourhood! There are great places to practice pole here and a great community too! Kanata is a little far for me because I don't have a car 🙁 but I would love to meet up and practice with you guys once in a while! I live right next to the civilisation museum and have a pole at my place. It's not much, but if any of you want a practice buddy, I'd be happy to host practice sessions at my place! 🙂 Also, if you guys want to try out a studio, let me know, some of them have tall poles and high ceilings!
Cheers!

I still remember the first class I took almost three years ago. As with many of you, a friend asked me to come and I relunctantly accepted. I didn't really object to the sport, on the contrary, but I didn't think I had enough of a feminine side to do it. I was and still am to this day, pretty much a tomboy. I don't care for makeup, high heels, dresses and shopping, but love sports, cars and pants.
When they asked the girls why we had come, for the health benefit, the confidence or the fun, I realised that it was for the three reasons. As much as I loved the fitness, I also wanted to gain confidence as a woman and feel beautiful. I wanted to be able to move gracefully and think of myself as, dare I say it, sexy.
Well three years later, I still hate makeup, high heels, dresses and shopping, but I discovered that I don't mind being a woman, feeling sexy and showing off my curves. I also learned that walking down the street with my head held high feels good and that suprisingly enough, most people will not look up from the floor or make eye contact with others while walking. (Try it, you'll see!!)
Most of all, pole fitness showed me I could be strong AND sexy all at the same time.

Darn it… why don't I live in LA?? Are there any conventions closer to the Northern border?

Welcome! I started myself at 24 and it was a wonderful challenge to take on. The strength and confidence you will develop are truly priceless. If you cannot find a school close to where you are, the lessons offered by Veena are a great way to start. If you truly do enjoy it and want more, you might be able to find a studio later on, but there's no shame in starting on your own! Just make sure for your own safety, that when you get to certain moves, anything upside down for instance, you always have someone with you for safety reasons, at least at first. Cheers!

Hey!
I have the same problem, or at least I did not too long ago. I'm still a little awkward at times when I move but what polergirl said is very true. When you first start out, you probably feel weird and clumsy, the moves don't flow well and you have to "get back in to it" probably half the time. BUT by forcing yourself to dance, you are taking the first step in making these moments less awkward and more familiar and easy.
When I first started pole dancing one of the exercices our teacher made us do was to take turns dancing around the pole (improvising) while the lights were out. People could not see features, just silhouettes. And you know what? The BEST transition moves I ever did came from those exercices. When the lights are out, you feel less conscious about what you look like and you can just focus on enjoying the music and yourself.
So my advice would be to do that. To dance the first couple of times in the dark and just feel the music so you can learn to love the way you move. And at some point, DO record yourself. That's an excellent idea because you might find, after you watch yourself on film, that those "awkward moments" actually brought out some beautiful transition moves. Besides, this will be a great way to learn to improvise if you ever are in a situation where you forget a move during a routine (which has happened to me….) !
Best of luck!
