I swear by Accutane even though it caused me to have nocturnal seizures and triggered Graves disease. I’m the only one in my family that had acne and until I got engaged in 1999. I took the Accutane for approximately 4 months and my skin has been wonderful ever since.

Yes, it has its side effects, but the benefits certainly outweigh the side effects. First and foremost, make sure you follow the directions of your doctor and you will be OK.

I will say that for a few weeks my skin did peel. However, again, it was worth it for me!

    Good luck to you.

I’m so glad to hear your baby is doing much better. I know how scary those bites & potential allergic reations can be. My oldest daughter is allergic to penicillin, but we didn’t find this out until the 1st time she got sick in college. Her throat starting closing up on her & thank God someone was there to rush her to the hospital since I refused to give her a car the 1st year of college.

Thank God she’s OK. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif Hope you can get some rest and get caught up with your practicing.

    Sissybuns,

My company, what little I have, think my pole is great. My girls love the fact that their mom is soo hip. No one else has really said anything. But, they also know better than to say anything! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif

And yes, the pole is a permanent fixture in the room. Even my nieces love to pole when they come over. In fact, my brother tried to pole dance one day! He’s getting his wife a pole soon. She’s taking lessons now and he’s loving it.

    Glitter,

I hate that you think that just because you’re a tad bigger than a few of us that we’re able to do more because we have less weight. Sweetie, I’m smaller than you, but even with lessons I’m not able to do half of what you’re able to do. Don’t you dare give up just because you’re in a rut. The last time you were in a rut you took some time away from the pole and you were able to get a few moves. Maybe that’s what you need this time aroud…time off the pole to think about the moves, look at a few DVDs to help with placement, etc. Sometimes we have to mentally learn the moves before we physically learn the moves. At least that’s what I’m learning it takes for me! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

I think the biggest thing I’ve learned since I’ve been on this forum is to not take my inability to get ever move or trick like others have been able to do in short periods of time. I am making myself just enjoy my time on the pole and not be so darn hard on myself or compare myself with others. Take some time and just work on your transitions and floor work and I bet you’ll get those moves and inverts you so desperately want to get.

Hope this pep talk helps you out hun!

    Foxy,

My husband felt the same way about me posting videos. I love AND respect my husband’s wishes, but at the end of the day I had to tell him that my pole dancing was NOT about him. Pole dancing is MY fitness choice, but it is also my therapy and a great deal of pride and fun for me. For example, his bowling with his boys is about him and even though I know a few of them cheat on their wives I don’t tell him he can’t hang out with him because of their bad habits. I totally trust my husband, but there is no way I’d ask him to give up something that gives him joy. In fact, it has strengthened our marriage and he’s been able to witness indirectly to the wayward men about the beauty of fidelity!

I also explained to him about the posting of videos to hep me grow in pole dancing. He understood and has been totally helpful and enjoys watching my videos on SV.

Mind you, my husband also doesn’t want anyone else to see me in lingerie so he’s OK with the dancer shorts, sports bras, etc. But he never told me that he doesn’t want me to wear them in a video. Personally, I’d have to say that there is a fine line when it comes to marriage and respect for the other spouse’s wishes and one’s personal needs & wants as an individual. Yes, we are to compromise, but at what point will your compromise mean total sacrifice of who you are and what makes you happy. At some point you may resent your husband for taking something from you that meant a great deal to you. In the end you mayrealize that your compromise wasn’t a compromise on both ends.

    Just my 2 cents!

    Happy 2 month anniversary!

I know what you mean as well about the pride and the people on the forum. Pole dancing is the ONLY exercise that I’ve stuck with because it’s not exercise to me…it’s self-expression.

Like you, I don’t have anyone to share my joy of dancing with except my hubby so this forum is truly a blessing.

Hope you have an awesome day on your pole today!

    Hugs & Kisses

I may just have to get in on this one. This is one area that I’ve really wanted to boost my confidence and this challenge will certainly help!

Lilbit…you are already so sexy with your pole dancing. You’d be awesome! I really hope you’ll really consider posting a vid. You’re such an inspiration and are the picture of sexy at 50+. You’re what we all will be striving for as we grow into this level of maturity: confidence, sexy, and absolutely gorgeous! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_sunny.gif

    Hi there,

I purchased my mat from Pole-O-Mat. It took about 2 weeks to get it, but well worth it. Here’s the link: http://www.poleomat.com/.

Deb Riley is the owner and wonderful to work with. Here’s her personal email address: mailto:smileyrileys@hotmail.co.uk.

I think I paid $193 USD which included shipping. I’m very pleased with it and feel very safe when learning new moves such as inverts.

    Take care.

Here’s the invert that I’m referring to at 2:25 or so. You’ll notice it looks as though Melanie transitions from the cross knee release into this invert: https://www.studioveena.com/video/gallery/My-First-Video

    Thanks for the help.

I’m also a night-time poler. I just don’t feel quite sexy or exuberant practicing during the day. It’s something about the day that just doesn’t feel right to me.

Plus, I like to practice when no one can see my frustrations or mess ups. Second, I’m a night person and hate early mornings although I will get up to see a beautiful sunrise and then go back to bed!

Glitter, I wish I had your guts and that my hubby would be OK with me doing an amateur night. It’s a dream of mine simply because I think it takes a lot of guts to get up there in next to nothing and perform in front of people oogling your body.

I am so proud of you for doing what felt right for you. YOU GO GIRL! Next time those other dancers better watch out because Glitter is taking 1st prize. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

Welcome Kimber…I too suffer from wrist pain, but it has gotten better over these last few months. Here are some of the things that I do to help strengthen my wrist:

    1. Wrist exercises – Veena has then on YouTube I believe. I simply usea 3 lb weight and exercise my wrists and forearms to strengthen them. I used to do them daily, but now I do them maybe once or twice a week when I think about it.

    2. Pole dance with wrist supports.

    3. Sleep with a wrist a support that is for carpel tunnel for several nights to give the wrists a rest. Only my right wrist bothered me so that’s the only one I need the support for.

    4. Wrist stretching. I purchased a book called Stretching Anatomy and it goes over several stretching exercisesfor the wrists. They are awesome.

    Hope this help!

April 29, 2009 at 10:45 pm in reply to: Leigh Anns dvd

I purchased the entire set of Leigh Ann’s DVDs and I must say I’m not impressed. From watching her on YouTube I really expected a classier set of DVDs which actually walked one through the spins / tricks much like what Jamilla does.

She does some stretching, but for the most part it’s basic stretching. She talks through the moves while someone else actually performs the move. However, she doesn’t give enough pointers on what muscle groups are working, what to be careful of, etc. Totally not what I expected. I’m not returning them because she does have some decent combinations.

Hands down…The Art of Pole is the best collection I’ve see to date and I’ve purchased quite a few DVDs in the last 30 days.

If anyone wants a breakdown of The Art of Pole by disc I’ll be glad to email it to you. Simpe PM me and I’ll get it to you.
