Makeda, I am with you. It seems like it takes me forever to learn a new move as well. Sometimes it’s so frustrating but it feels so good to conquer it. Love being older and being able to express myself. Also, I love this site. Us girls 40 and over rock!!! 🙂

Hi guys. I’m checking in. I’m 41 and love poling. Poling truly soothes my soul. Wish I could do more but I am enjoying every little move I can do for the meantime. 🙂

MD, please do not feel like you’re alone. I have the same problem for which I find it discouraging as well but don’t give up. Climbing the pole has been (and still is) a big challenge for me but it comes easy to others so I have learned not to compare myself to others but try to learn from watching different techniques. Just keep on working on it and it will get better. Believe me, some days I am totally discouraged but poling satisfies my soul so much that I refuse to let it go. I just continue to battle the challenge. 🙂 Eventually, you will be climbing and there will be another hurdle to jump over. LOL

I have my pole in the front formal room as well and it is the first thing you see as soon as I open the front door; therefore, it’s like having two invitations. First invite is from someone opening the front door and the second invite is from my pole in the front room. lol It is funny how this discussion just came up because I am having a birthday party for my 1 year old daughter this weekend and thought that maybe I should take it down just to be polite, but I decided to leave it up because the pole has changed my life. Poling is a part of my life and really helps me to express myself and strive to do more. Participating in poling is who I am and if anyone is uncomfortable, then it is not a requirement to be present here.

What I’ve decided to do is have special gift bags for adults and surprise them with a gift if anyone decides to try it. My hubby is an officer, so it will be sort of weird to see how some of his friends may react once they see my pole in the front room. If hubby doesn’t care, then why should I. In addition, we pay the bills here so why take my pole down to please someone else… That person will not be the one to grant me heaven or cast me to hell, so why should I deny who I am. As for my parents, they are waiting for me to get another pole so that they can take the one I have for themselves. lol With parents like that, why should I care what anyone else thinks.

Thanks for the awesome discussion guys. 🙂

Gosh, I better practice twerking. I think that I can catch on to twerking faster than poling. Of course I will never give up poling but twerking makes it look so much better implementing both. I love this video. Thanks for sharing webmaster. 🙂

I consider myself slow as well so please do not think that you’re alone. It is taking me forever to climb the pole without being exhausted. I try to watch the videos and most of the girls on here makes it look so simple and easy but some of us just have to try harder and it takes a little longer that’s all. I believe practice makes perfect which watching the videos gives me motivation to know that one day the struggle will pass and then it will be on to the struggle of the new move…. and so on :). Although it’s taking a little longer to grasp that new move, I can say that it is better than not poling at all. My mind is at peace whenever I am practicing poling. 🙂 Thank goodness for the pole.

Thank you guys. I was looking all around for something that would fit a more curvy person and did not see anything cute until I looked at some of the sites which were mentioned here. Thanks guys. I can finally wear something where I look and feel sexy in as well.

January 8, 2014 at 1:43 pm in reply to: Static or Spinning?

    Hi Guys,

I must say that it is my belief that learning on a static pole is better. Unfortunately, I was being taught on a spinning pole and can not do any of the cool moves learned on the spinning to transition onto the static. I was very disappointed that when I would go to the studio, I could do some awesome spins and moves, but after I would come home and attempt the same on my static pole, it was impossible.

I think that I wasted time and money but I wanted to give it some time. It is discouraging that I have invested time and money into expensive classes and I would say that I have nothing to show unless I am using spin mode. 🙁 My grip is way to tight and I am unsure as to everything else I am doing wrong to effect the same on a static pole. I am looking for a pole studio that only uses static poles and will learn from static first and when I feel like I made enough progress, then I will transition using spinning mode but the static pole will always be my first source for learning my moves.

    I hope that helps.

    Hi there,

I am totally not a gym person.  You do not have to be a gym member to gain flexibility or strength.  Actually, I was a member at a gym for a few months and it did not do a thing for me…. except for wasting my money.  🙂

In that being said… you have found a great site.  Veena lessons are great and the members are wonderful as well.  I am learning more from Veena doing the lessons.  I was a member at a pole studio and class went so fast that I did not get the hang of some things because I needed to move a little slower than the other advanced people in the class.  With Veena, you can watch the lessons as many times as you need to and she also does it in slow motion; therefore, you can see exactly what you should do and the points of contact with your body and the pole.  I guess I am biased because I love the site so much.

You will see what I am talking about.  If you need help, you will always receive a reply from some of the girls on here and usually Veena as well.  Don't worry…. you will gain strength and flexibility.  I am still working on mine too.  It takes more time for some of us but you will be okay.

Hope I gave some encouragement.  🙂

October 9, 2013 at 11:24 pm in reply to: Read this post on Psychology Today about Pole Dancing

    Hi Guys,

All I can say is wow.  This person doesn't have a clue as to how pole dancing has helped some of us psychologically.  Everyone has a right to their opinion; however, I think it would be wise to speak to some people to get a better understanding of why some people prefer poling rather than the so called standard of exercising at a gym.

Some people prefer walking the treadmill and some of us prefer working the pole!!! 🙂  In my opinion, the pole is better than the gym because of the challenges in which one must conquer.  If she read this, then she probably would not understand what the hell I am talking about. LOL

Anyhow, we as polers do not demean others because of their preference of the type of exercise they choose to participate in.  I think some people just do not understand the art and its too bad for that person.  If he/she took the time to try it, then an understanding as well as credit would be shown to people who participate in poling.  Moreover, with their ignorance of the art, it does not surprise me that those statements would be made.  Some people are judgmental individuals and that is a part of our world which we as polers just have to continue to do what pleases us.

As the saying goes… Don't knock it until you try it!!! (She might like it)  Well, enough rambling from me.  Poling really helps me in many ways… especially when I am battling with my depression. 🙂

Hi there.  I think that you are doing an amazing job.  I can testify to being afraid to fall down which is hindering me from being able to move at a faster rate.  Everyone has to get over their fear at their own time.  I believe when I subscribed to Veena, the fear of falling was one of the first discussions in which I had posted.  It's scary to invert.  Well for me it is but it comes from me not trusting myself like I should and trying to conquer the fear of heights.  I can say that at 4 months into poling, I was still doing the basics.  I still consider myself a beginner and it has been a while since I started.  In addition, it's hard to conquer doing inverts when time is limited which is my problem as well.  I can say that when I attended the pole studio, I ended up being the only beginner when challenged by being in a sexy pole class with advanced polers.  I must say thereafter, I felt like a complete idiot because I was not getting the moves as quickly, but due to the love for pole, I found Veena.  We always have to push ourselves a little more because we can do more than we think.  Well, that's how I feel, but it's effecting the move when you are ready to take that chance.  I think when I fell the first time, it gave me more of a push to not have the loving pole break me down to quit.  Always remember, we fall down, but we get up and try again….:)  If you like your studio, and you all support each other, then keep going.  It will pay off!!

    Have a great day! 🙂

Oh my goodness… When I started poling, the fear of falling was one of my first discussions I posted on Veena; therefore, I know how you feel.  I am terribly afraid of heights.  I have been back to poling just shortly due to taking a break to have my daughter, so now I feel as if I need to get over the fear all over again.  You are doing really good just to be poling for a month.  I have been taking my time to work on my fear of heights, so I have not been doing inverts yet but working my way into it.  My body is ready to invert, but my mind is not. 🙂  I am really afraid, so once I work into it, then I will gain more confidence in doing it.

Congrats on doing your inverts but I would say not to let go of the pole until you trust yourself.  You will know when you're ready to move into the next step.  I wish I were there at the invert stage but confidence will bring comfort for doing those moves.  I don't want to get anxiety because I am afraid of inverting at this time causing me more problems although I can't wait to do it. 🙂  Keep up the good work and continue to have fun poling.  As you become more comfortable, the fear will subside.  You still WOW me by inverting already and just started poling a month ago. 🙂

Meerne, Im sorry for your loss as well. I will keep you and your family in prayer. It takes time to heal and emotionally it is very difficult to cope. I can relate because I have an angel baby which I lost when I was 3 mos pregnant and during the time of going through the phases of coping and accepting what happened, I was a mess. Its hard but you will get through the healing process. It takes time and your feelings are normal.
