I tried this tonight at home (I'm an upper intermediate/advanced poler and teach at my studio) but I had a hard time daring to just jump into it quickly! I guess I'm chicken. 🙂 I'll have to keep trying…

Thanks!! Looking forward to trying this.

BTW – I posted your article on our studio's FB page and you were such an inspiration to a lot of our students. A lot of them thanked me for posting it and really loved seeing you rock it girl!!
Then we had rented out the local strip club and closed it to the public for our students to have a night of fun acting like "strippers"…..the studio owner has had a baby and felt like she had 15 more lbs to lose before she felt like she was ready to be in front of everyone. After she saw the article and your videos she saw how silly she was being and enjoyed the night dancing away on the stage. 🙂 Here's her blog post about it http://adultdanceandfitness.blogspot.com/2011/12/get-inspired.html

I think it's fine to use more of your legs to climb! I encourage my students to use their legs more than thier arms because it'll help to not gas out so quickly and proper climbing uses quite a bit of leg power anyway. 😉 Keep poling and enjoying yourself!!! 🙂

P.S. the support was installed in the attic where the exposed trusses are accessible of course. From the inside of the house the bracket simply looks like it's installed onto the ceiling.

Only the very top and bottom screw holes will line up with a beam because a 2×4 isn't really that wide and the adapter is bigger. I had a carpenter (my handy neighbor) install a piece of wood as a brace between two trusses and installed the bracket to the truss and the extra support piece. Solid as a rock. 🙂

Did your pole sell?

The studio I teach at uses MindBody but we have monthly or yearly memberships like a gym so it's a constant problem of girls signing up for classes and then not showing…..but we don't penalize them because they pay for a membership. To combat it (somewhat) we 'over book' the class sizes and expect some aren't going to show. If they do, then we double up on poles. It's not a perfect system but that's how we do it….

I took a workshop from her a few years ago — she's AWESOME!!!

For lighting, forget the lamps and use natural light. Just open the girage door and let all that natural light come in to light up your eyes and create even skin tones. Just make sure there's not sunlight hitting you directly creating half in shade and half out.

I'll keep my ear to the ground if anyone at French Kiss Fitness (formerly Blue) is lookin' for one. 🙂

50mm or 45mm? Also, what part of UT are you in? I could help spread the word…

Yup, I have a full time day job, have a photography business I run on the side (shoot on weekends), and help Becca Butcher with her stuff, so I only teach 1 night a week. Unfortunately this means I only get to pole for myself 1-2 times a week and rarely pole at home any more. Never enough time in the day! My only regret is I think my hubby wants me home more but he's supportive and doesn't complain — too much.

Oh that stinks! I don't have that problem but I do try and avoid getting sick by washing my hands the second I walk in the door from being out in public. Also, try avoiding touching your eyes with your hands — my human biology teacher told us most cold viruses are actually caught through your eyes and drain into your nose. And lastly, have you thought of doing neti pot treatments to keep your sinuses clear of mucous? I have an inexpensive one I got from Walgreens (drug store) I use when I'm sick.

Hope is awesome! I'm up in the Ogden area (instruct 1 day a week at French Kiss Fitness – formally called Blue). Maybe one day I'll make it up to SL to jam w/ y'all… 🙂

Stay away from the cheapie poles sold in sex shops or eBay. They're not safe at all.

If you like to read, the book Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle is an EXCELLENT read. If you want a good plan to follow, this one is a good place to start. 🙂 http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/jamie-eason-livefit-trainer.html

I have the app and really like it. The positive is that you don't have to be connected to the internet to watch the vids — the vids are downloaded and stored in your device — so there is no download delay. The negative is there is no audio or explanation. Veenas vids are great cuz she shows you how to do the move and explains it. Both are good for different reasons, imo. Hope that helps. 🙂
