I’ve only been doing pole for 8 months and I’ve started keeping a journal in the last week or so and I’ve already found it invaluable. I can keep track of the moves I’ve mastered, the moves to revise and the moves to learn. So far I’ve aced 5 moves in 3 days.

  • For conditioning I can strongly recommend kettlebell training as it cardio and weights in 1.

It strengthens your core and will help you build strength. I would recommend you do HITT training as p90x or any of those type of programs take waaaayyyyy to long.

There are lots of great FREE Hitt programmes such as bodyrock.tv or Zuzka light (she has free youtube workouts and very cheap subscription sites)

    Zuzana workouts

    Free zwow workouts https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DgkSSCJsbsI (27mins)
    List of 6 minute workouts : https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=zuzana+light+6+minute

Just because they are short doesn’t mean they are not intense. I’ve been doing here workouts for 3 years and she is the real deal. I’m in the best shape of my life at 43 because of her workouts

    Bodyrock.tv

I would recommend you go to youtube as they do lots of workout challenges

    Fitness Blender

Also do great free HITT workouts they are excellent too.

wow that is disgusting. I am so sorry you went through that. some people are really disgusting rude pigs (and racist in your case too). Thankfully not everyone is like that and everyone here is really nice (and normal). So don’t quit. If you quit, you let them win!

If your looking to build lean muscle. You will have to use resistance training from weight training. To dispel a myth weight training WON’T MAKE YOU BULKY.

Quite the opposite, women are more likely to build lean muscle.

I suggest going to body http://www.bodybuilding.com . As there is a lot of diet information there and a great resource for supplements. I can also suggest kettlebell training as its cardio and weight training in 1. Once you get the proper training on to do a correct kettlebell swing, you can do it in the comfort of your own home, workouts take about 15-20 mins and it will save you a fortune in gym fees.

I can also suggest chia seeds they are very high in protein, added to greek yoghurt with some honey you have probably (though not sure) a much protein as a protein drink. Also soy protein is rank. I can recommend also Syntrax Nectar, tastes great, is gluten free, diary free and I think sugar free. I drank the stuff for years. Here’s some info on chia seeds http://www.globalhealingcenter.com/natural-health/health-benefits-of-chia-seeds/

massive HUGE fan of Olga Koda. What can I say…the most amazing body, excellent floor work, excellent taste in music, great routines and I’ve seen her spinning pole videos. To me, if there was pole athlete on I aimed to be as good as it would be her.

@zoilife6233 I really don’t know if it was your intention but your comment came across as really patronizing to me. This can could be due to the fact its written down and there is no vocal tone or inflection in behind the comment. Still, if my impression is incorrect, duly noted-my apologies.

Still, how you choose to practice yoga and how you choose your yogi is frankly your choice. If their arrogance is something you can ignore- great.

That conversely, really has no effect on me or my opinions about what I look for in a yogi or what I said about Rodney Yee.

Personally, there is a lot to be said about being humble.

Being great at what you do and lacking humility is not personally attractive to me. Furthermore, I personally don’t find arrogance in any form a great quality in any human being- period.

But hey, the world is subjective and that’s what makes it interesting : oD. I am honestly not interested in getting in to debate this thread is not about this.

Yoga is a great way of giving remove ego from our thinking and for realigning the body.

Anyone doing pole should consider taking it up, they won’t regret it.

Yes Rodney Yee is a hottie…until….he opens his mouth and then he’s just arrogant unfortunately (I watched an interview of him a few years ago). Saying that, when he keeps his mouth shut he is an excellent yoga instructor.

There a lots of brilliant FREE yoga routines on youtube. I’ve tried to paste a great 40 min beginners workout. Click on the ‘youtube’ link but NOT on the screen below the link (viewing directly in this forum isn’t working for me).

Remember yoga is all about the breathe so make sure you follow the breathing and engage your core.

@serzi Firstly don’t be hard on yourself. Be glad you don’t associate with these people.

A lot of what you said ‘reminds me of me’ a few years ago. I had ‘friendships’ and relationship with people when ‘sentiment blinded me to their behaviour'(one of these relationships included a sister who admitted she hated me but had no reason as I was nothing but supportive to her)

Like you and these so called friendships lasted for years and I felt invested. However, as someone one pointed out, I did get ‘gut feelings’ that somethings wasn’t right but chose to ignore them.

It was only when I took of the rose tinted glasses that I decided I was no longer buying what they were selling. I cut them out of my life and it was the best thing I did.

You can’t make these people like you…because on the whole, these people mostly don’t even like themselves. That’s why they do what they do and behave how they behave. It really isn’t about you.

So let them smirk if you do a pole trick wrong because even the ‘expert was once a novice’.

I become a strong believer the following saying from maya angelou:

“When people show you who they are the 1st time. Believe them.”

I can like a person, be respectful and considerate but one thing I am not is sentimental.

I’m a watcher, and If don’t think a friendship or a relationship is healthy- I can walk away in a heartbeat.

Life is too short to be around ‘sideline haters’ and people who are just stinkers.

Anyway that’s all I have to say about the issue.

I always say when I meet a person like that, I’m grateful. You see, they are doing me the biggest favour because I know what I’m dealing with and with that in mind I make the decision to take myself away from it.

I’ve met a few of the b£$£$£W$^^ in my time and see them for what they are. Pathetic and insecure. It isn’t about you or me- the problem is them. So I make a conscious decision to not speak engage with them or if they make me annoyed (which is pretty rare) tear them a ‘new one’.

After that I pretty much keep it movin’

Congratulations! I know men an women a lot younger who couldn’t do what you just did. Bravo.

I started pole at the end of last year and I’m 43. I’m also a LOT stronger than a lot of women in my class due to the fact I’m very physically active (I also started thai boxing at 41 and krav maga at 38). I’m in better shape now than I ever was in my 20’s or 30’s. My point is this you are never too old to do the things you love. If you want to bet great at this…you can be. Its all in your mindset and focus.
