I just got implants a month ago, and this week I began working out again. I feel totally normal, but I haven't been cleared to pole or do aerials (anything else "rigorous" or that uses chest muscles) for another 2 weeks. So at 6 weeks post-op, you will be back on the pole. But at that point, you'll be easing yourself back into pole, not jumping back to where you were pre-op.

Also, if you're worried about loosing strength & flexibility during your month-month & a half off, don't! I was super scared to loose flexibility I gained from doing Alethea's Pure Splits. But on Monday I began the Pure Splits DVD again and I was suprised to see that I haven't lost ANY flexibility except in my calves! I was stiff, sure, but I was able to work into the stretches I was doing before.

    Good luck!

  • Here they use that hoop at 1:25. It doesn't have the pole in the center, though

Platinum Stages is prob. your best bet, they will do 20' poles, but only in 50mm stainless steel. You can't buy their spinning poles past 14', I believe, but you can still buy the Spinning Kit seperately ($159) and install that yourself. They said this will work just as safely and securely as their normal spinning poles, they just don't make the spinning poles that size.

And they will also have you buy conduit from a local home improvement store and put that inside your pole to reduce flex/improve stability.

Vivid Footwear has this special sole that can prevent this!  Vivid are the only shoes I will wear, because of this.  And they are ridiculously comfortable. The soles are extra padded and have a little bump at the top, where your toes are, that gives your toes extra padding/comfort and keeps them from sliding out the front.

    Here are some Vivid shoes:

At first, I would put one hand on the pole and use it to push myself back into a sitting position because I felt like if I used my abs to bring myself up, that I would loose the pressure of my legs holding me on the pole and fall. So maybe try that? Use one hand to grab the pole behind your back and push yourself up and grab the top of the pole (above your body) with your other hand to push/pull back up. And eventually, you’ll be able to do it without any hands. Hope that made sense. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

I could be wrong, but I think it depends on where you live. In the US, the joists are further apart, so the pole has to be mounted directly beneath a joist. But in Europe, the joists are closer together, so the pole should be mounted inbetween two joists, like your green circle shows.

And your red lines are correct, those look like the joist lines on your ceiling that you traced w/ the red line.

I bought curlers at Sally Beauty that will give this type of curl called CurlFormers. The only bad thing is that they take a while longer than I am used to to get a curl and are really meant to be left in over night.

I also know that think hair is not the ideal hair for this look. When I curl my hair it gets REALLY poofy because there is so much of it.

Check out some of the you tube videos on the curlformers.

Cool, thank you! I’ll check it out!

Awesome! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif Mine is a hair question.. How do you make these kind of curls?

    http://girls-fashions.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/hairstyle-ideas-for-curly-hair.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I have really long & thick hair, so if it’s a certain cut that works better for these curls, then that’s doable. But when i curl my hair, it always looks bad. (Even if I wrap the hair around the barrel to curl it, like as if I was using one of those clipless curling irons)

Just want to clarify- you should always be rolling the knees in and engaging all the way through both legs whether you’ve got one foot pointed or two!!

(Good point! I always seem to forget this..)

My town just got an Ulta actually! Thanks for the info. I’ll have to pop in there next time I’m in the area.

NP! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif Just be careful about prices.. they literally hide the prices from you, it’s always a surprise when you go to check out your items. I once accidentally paid $20 for a little thing of eyeshadow..

I use this really nice eyebrow kit from ULTA (you can also try Sephora if you don’t have any ULTA stores):

    http://www.ulta.com/ulta/browse/productDetail.jsp?skuId=2137775&productId=VP11851&navAction=push&navCount=1&categoryId=cat80045&CAWELAID=202393054

I love it because it comes with a bunch of different stencils, (which I wouldn’t rely on 100%) but they are great to help you find your preferred shape and then they help you maintain that shape.

So I just shade them in and then use that as a guide to pluck/wax. Mine still aren’t exactly how I want them, but they are on their way!

I have the Star Stand Alone, and at first it was HUGE pain to get together.. when UPS dropped it off, it was spilled all over the back of the truck. (It was stupid for me to even accept the shipment, I know.. but I was SO excited! I had waited for it for months)

So the top of the base plate had to be hammered down into place because it got effed up in the back of the UPS truck, so the locking pin to make the pole static was not fitting into place, and the pole would go into spinny mode mid-spin, when you weren’t expecting it.

And I had a problem getting all the base plates to snap into place.. But eventually, I was able to get them all in. As mentioned above, the poles come unscrewed if you spin left. And if you screw the poles SUPER tight, then they get stuck together and you HAVE to spin left just to unscrew them..

And also, I paid extra for the "canvas carrying case w/ wheels," but only 1 of the carrying cases has wheels on it… And they are too limp to even work right! Because the sides of the cases are not hard, the weight of the pieces inside the cases will tip the whole thing over onto it’s side. And I never did figure out how all the pieces fit into the carrying cases, so the base plate is currently just laying on the floor in my bedroom.. It does not fit into the cases with all the pie wedge base plates & the metal feet of the base.

And it’s extremely heavy. I don’t know how heavy the X Stage is, but I would imagine that it is heavier than the Star pole (which is SUCKISHLY heavy)

So it has it’s flaws.. If X Pole made an X Stage that wasn’t so tall/far off the ground, then I would have bought theirs. But the X stage was just too high. And I wanted a pole with varying heights. (8′ normally, but I bought the 2′ extension)

I learned it with one pointed & one flexed, but as someone mentioned above, when you roll your thighs in, it makes it more secure and you can point both. I just very recently started doing both pointed. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

November 5, 2010 at 2:10 pm in reply to: Any Runners Here?

I used to HATE running because of school PE, too. When I first started running, I couldn’t even run for 30 seconds without feeling like I was dying! My throat would burn, I felt like I wasn’t getting enough air, my legs were tired, etc.

But every day, I would go for a "walk" and then try to make little goals for myself, like "lightly jog to the street sign." And each day, I would build onto that, so that I was running further & further each day.

I have been running daily since April of this year, and now I can run for about 15 minutes at a time. (I don’t track miles, only minutes) Which doesn’t sound like much, but considering how bad my teachers would complain that my cardio was when I was a kid, it’s a major feat for me!

I plug in my iPod and zone out! I love it, now! I still can’t run long distances, I usually run for as long as I can until i feel breathless and then I slow to a walk until I feel I can run again. But long-distance, steady running is the type that strengthens your heart; whereas the interval running that I do helps burn fat. (Which is why I run, anyways, so it works out great for me!)

And I had every problem in the book when I first started! I got plantar faciitis in my feet from not having enough cushioning for my heels. I had shin splints, I had pulled muscles, etc. I’ve finally figured out a delicate balance so I can keep everything just right. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

Moral of the story: BUY GOOD RUNNING SHOES and make sure that they are cushioned properly! And learn good running form. You’ll avoid all those painful mistakes new runners often make.

    Good luck! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_thumleft.gif

These are great "starter shoes" because they have the look of regular stiletto shoes & are perfect for the pole, but they have a thicker heel and are tall, but not TOO tall.

I have only ever used brass & stainless steel, and I MUCH prefer stainless steel. I learned on brass and only ever used brass until a few months ago. I think I will be selling my brass pole for a stainless one.

For me, brass gets too hot too fast (even in cold, dry weather) and it slows me down.. I have to wait for the pole to cool down before I can get back on it, or else it makes painful calluses on my hands. And I get pole burn on my thighs.

I have never used chrome or tg, so I can’t comment on those..

I take a pole class on Sundays, and then I pole at home & do strength training workouts on Wednesdays & Fridays. At home, I warm-up using Jamilla DeVille’s warm-up routine, and then I work on the tricks that I am trying to get from her DVD’s or that the instructor was trying to teach me in pole class for 1-2 hours. I use Jamilla’s cool-down routine to increase flexibility.

PS if anyone has a tongue piercing? How long does it hurt for and what about inversions etc if you just have one. Any advice on them…how soon can I put invisible ones on?

I got my tongue pierced a long time ago, long before I started poling, (so I can’t comment on inversions w/ a new tongue piercing) but it takes about 3 weeks to fully heal. (Luckily, mouth piercings heal super fast) The first 3 days, your tongue is really swollen and you can’t eat solid foods, suck through straws, smoke anything, etc. but after about a week, you can eat/smoke/drink almost normally.

After about 3 weeks, you normally go into the tattoo shop that pierced you and they will resize your barbell to a shorter one so that you don’t accidentally bite it and whatnot. At that point, you can buy a clear barbell from the tattoo shop and just have them put that one in for you. (Or if they don’t do this, you can just buy & put it in yourself, of course)

That is so cute!! I have 2 birds and they love my pole. I think they like it because it’s shiny, but they always fly to it and then hover there next to it like hummingbirds, which is highly unusual/hard for a parrot to do.

If I am ever trying to lure them down from somewhere that I can’t reach them, I go stand by my pole and they fly down to me immediately because they just want an up close view of it. It’s so weird.

R-pole also come in 50mm. I quite like the R-pole but I’m aware not everyone is a fan.

(Oh wow, I didn’t know that!)
