    Fonji Training Tips:
    * Shoulder Mount Holds
    * S.M. Bouces (Bounce the hips up and down while scissoring the legs OR do the bent leg version)
    * SM Hops (this move is a great prep for the Fonji, but not necessary to achieve the move)
    * SM Drops (this move helps if you have a fear of moving down the pole via s.m.)
    * Flag Inverts (Lifts w/out jumping)
    * Flag Jumps (I have ppl do these b4 we do fonjis to help prep them for the impact)

    * Any Lower Abdominal Exercises
    * Chest exercises (strengthens for flag)
    * Any shoulder mount exercise.

    Hope this is helpful.  I'd love to see your progress 🙂

    Yeay !!!  This is one of my favorite moves to do!!!
    Do you have any videos of your attempts?? That could be helpful also–
    MrsNaughtywed described the basics of the move very well…
    Okay, I'm thinking of a detailed way to type out an explination…..
    I'll have to do it in a word doc and re-post it here, lol.

    @Amy:  I'm glad that you're enjoying teaching — I always enjoyed your style of dance…  Although I am a trixster at heart, I really enjoy performing… uh, minus the judging aspect that comes along with competing, lol.  I do look forward to continuing to compete though, my next goal is to do an international competition…  In hopes it gears me towards more teaching tours and performance opportunities :0)

    This is such a cool thread!

    My name has a few different backgrounds. . .

    When I was thinking of an ‘alter ego’/’stage name’ for when I started poling I went through in my mind a few things. . . .

    I wanted to something unique (or so I thought) and also something that was ‘personal’ to me.

    SKITTLES ~~~

    * One of my fav candies
    * It’s a fun colorful candy ((Id like to think of myself as fun colorful and carefree))
    * Tagline "Taste the rainbow" — sort of sexy here. . . I like my rainbow tasted (did I just type that!?) https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_eek.gif
    * And later my husband also added that a rainbow has many colors and variety such as poling: Strength, Sexiness, Fun-ness, etc etc. . . and I try to do a little of it all. . .

    . . . . hence the name "SKITTLES"

    I did think about changing my name, but Skittles stuck with me. . . .. I didnt want a serious name, because I’m just not a super serious person/poler and I’m actually a bit shy https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cool.gif . . . so I wanted to keep it light hearted and fun. .

    Plus, when I’m at work and someone mentions Skittles (from the snack machine) I do turn as if they’ve called my name, lol!

    Congrats Ann!!

    Do you have your submission vid link??

    I’m planning to enter next year too (well, last year I said I was gonna do it this year, lol). . . I wanted to enter this year, but I felt I may be pushing it AND my husband has a race on Oct3rd that we’ve been planning to attend so I thought I should just leave it be.

    I think it’s for the best. . . I have more time to work on my flexibility
    I notice that all the uspdf-ers are super flexy. . . https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif

    Congrats to you for entering!!! AND I’m excited to meet you in VA for East Meets West Polarity!!!!!

    . . . . if you have scuff marks on your ceiling from your heels

    . . . . if you visit a strip club and feel overcome with anxiety because you want so badly to get on the pole, others think you’re really ‘that’ into the girls, haha!

    . . . . if you visit a strip club and consider buying a table/lab dance so YOU can dance on the Table Top Pole!!! lol!
    Yes, I really almost bought a table dance and was gonna tell the girl to just go someplace else and let me do my thing, lol!

    . . . . if you’re at a playground with your kids and you all are flipping and lifting and climbing the bars and poles.

    . . . . if you’re at a playground and your kids pick out places where you can Pole!

    . . . . if you’ve moved everything out of your living room (largest room) except the computer (for youtube & s.v.) a few fold out chairs (for chair dancing), and your poles! i.e. Your living room looks like a mini pole studio.

    Can’t wait to see you post some videos!!!

    Hay y’all. . .

    yup, I think the remi drop is same as sad girl drop . Sorry I totally missed addressing that https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rMqOoZyZpCY" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
    (above: her last move is what she calls the remi drop)

    I guess our problems are similar but different.

    My main sweat concern is back and underarm (yuk, sounds gross).
    The sweat causes slippage AND gets on pole causing slippery pole (even if I "dry" out).

    Thanks!!

    PS— I love the sexy wiping idea. But dont have much bust to hide a cloth into??

    Well, I suppose that might be true. . . that would be why sweat started POURING from my chest during my ‘break’ when I performed last week, lol! I was like "It wont stop now!!!, lol" But I never really noticed sweat at a change in pace. . . .

    The entire routine can’t be super full on & intense, right??

    At some point, most of the time, I’ll go from super intense moves to softer moves in one song. . . is this CAUSING the sweat issue??? hmm, I’ll play with this one the next time I practice.

    I have this same problem only at about the middle/end of the second song. I can’t do a damn thing after the second song unless I wipe down the pole or my body. Like u said, shoulder mount stuff is not a good idea with sweaty back. I’m glad that I am not the only one with this problem and excited to see others responses.

    I agree with the prior posting. . . start to get sweaty = move to floor work or easy spins. Which challenges me to spice up the floorwork, basic spin combos, and walk around the pole stuff. I notice that some ‘pros’ actually "perform" so they aren’t doing a whole bunch of tricks and inverts and stuff (except Jenyne, I saw her do a 9 minute routine with no break, lol!)

    Anyway; I’m thinking to maybe throw in some "performance" type stuff (not direct pole work, but interpretive dance) OR mix up the routine with some less intensive pole moves. For example, when I get tired, I will do a remi drop into an egg to rest, lol! or even an inverted crusifix, or jade split those are cool rest positions for me . . .

    But, the sweat IS an issue. I hope you can find something that helps (when u do, pls message me!!).

    I also wanted to mention, that I recall seeing your performance video and you are awesome!!! It sure didn’t look like sweat was an issue during the performance at all !! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

    April 14, 2010 at 2:26 pm in reply to: Slippery Pole in The Middle of a Workout Session

    Sort of in relation to this thread (sort of not);

    Does anyone have advice on getting super silppery (sweaty body & pole) during your workouts/pole performances??

    I am usually okay in this situation, but I recently had a performance gig, and after about the second song https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_DJ.gif , I was sweaty (pits, back, & chest mostly). I think this may be normal, but it was totally in the way of me doing any of the moves (confidently that I wouldn’t slip and fall) that I wanted to do! In my basic free hand scorpio/ geminis i felt my pit sweat causing me to slip a little. My shoulder mount was hard b/c of the back sweat.

    Not that I was sweating buckets, but the sweat itself caused ultra "pole caution". last thing I want is to do a move I know how to do, but bust my ass in front of a bunch of ppl b/c of a lil’ sweat!!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_redface.gif

    I went to floor work ’till I cooled down a little and then went for it again. But since I’m not yet, SUPER flexie, this got a lil boring to me https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_pale.gif

    Does anyone have ideas or tips for body sweat during pole work???
    Or should I just have a sweat towel around and wipe down the pole anytime I’m doing more than 2 songs???
    (( or am I just an out of shape fattie??? lol )))))

    I’d really like to hear from ppl that perform in places that my also sometimes get hot b/c of body heat, food cooking/ being served, etc.

    Thanks!!!

    There really aren’t many pole moves themselves that I am not wild about. . . but personally for myself I really dont like my side climb. LoL, that one is a pretty unattractive move for me. Now, when Veena, or almost anyone else I see does it, it looks sexy, but when I do it, I suddenly feel ‘monkey-ish’ , lmao!

    I dont know the name for that move, but I’ve seen it before. . . .

    Pole dancer "Pantera Blacksmith" is the first I’ve seen do it on an older video.

    Should check her out, she’s pretty awesome too!!!!

    This move takes extreme flexibility, lol, I’ve attempted it and can’t get my back leg straight.
    I’d love to see some of you FLEXY VEENERS do it!!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif
