So I am happy to introduce myself to all of you whom I haven’t met yet, I’m Lian, from Body & Pole NYC. I feel so out of the loop not knowing about this forum…but i am super excited to finally be a part of it!!!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif
I know some of you were confused as to the USPDF weekend workshops, so I would like to clear things up a bit.
I am NOT affiliated with Wendy & Anna’s Federation as a studio, I AM a USPDF member as i was also one of the top 12 original contestants last March here in NYC and was lucky enough to meet all these amazing women and make some great friends. I have been teaching pole dance for about 2 years out of my home studio, and finally got lucky enough to find the space I moved into a month ago. Body & Pole finally became a reality, and now it is a real studio, about 500 square ft, with 4 poles. Our ceilings are 14ft, the highest out of all the studios in the city. It is still a small space, and i chose to put only 4 poles up so that there is more room between the poles, instead of cramming one more pole just so i can maybe make more money.
I decided it would be great to have more than one studio offering workshops for all the women coming to NYC for the USPDF, and as I am a brand new studio, I decided to set the price to only $60 instead of $75 per workshop at NYPD. I also remember what it felt like when I went to VA and could only afford 2 workshops but wanted to take many more…
The classes are ALL open level. ALL the instructors will work with you in your level, so even if you can’t invert yet, you will be just fine.
I also decided to open my studio for all of you to come and play on the poles for only $10, as I know how much money you are all spending already, and want to make this a fun trip for everyone, and get to meet as many of you as possible. So Please come by Body & Pole when you are in NYC, even if it is just to say hi and introduce yourself to me.
I am super excited to be a part of this beautiful community.
XOXOXOXOXO
LianI think it’s so cool of you to open up your studio for us to pole around in. I look forward to checking it out and climbing one of those 14 footers!

In the case of arteries, I think what you’re concerned about is putting enough pressure on an artery to cut off the circulation, correct? It is possible to do that but as far as it happening with pole it seems highly unlikely. I can’t think of any pole move that requires the amount of time and force you need to put on an artery to block it off. Like….there’s the brachial artery that runs through the upper inner arm. Maybe you could put pressure on this area by doing some type of inner arm hold like a teddy or maybe a yogini but, you’d have to squeeze directly on the artey and very hard and for a good amount of time. I haven’t seen anyone hang out for minutes in these types of moves, which is why I don’t think it’s really likely. Of course….anything can happen and if you have some type of pre existing condition then you should always consult your doc and your instructor and see what they say. Maybe there are some things you need to stay away from. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

in the first vid i ever posted on SV, the pole came out on me at crunch after i did a body spiral (also called a corkscrew). those are platinum stages poles…. but veena hit the nail on the head of course, ANY pole can come down if you don’t INSTALL IT PROPERLY!!
I remember that. You were just too much woman for that pole to handle LOL. You handled it well though. What’d they do with that pole anyway? Did they fix it?

I’m on the website and I don’t see you, what’s your "secret burlesque name"? LOL Are you Francecsa?

OMH I just LMAO’d at Conan on the pole. He’s so silly! He was a good sport about it though. Nice invert.

Since I’m just learning with this move myself I thought I’d share something I have trouble with in the odds it actually helps you https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif
Veena’s lesson for it reminded me that when I get fatigued or just frustrated with the move I have a tendency to sort of lean on my lower arm (this is going in from gemini). In other words, if I let my body weight hang on my lower arm, it means my torso is kind of pointing slightly towards the ground. If I focus on keeping symmetry in the angles of my top and bottom arms by also focusing on squeezing the pole between my legs, to maintain that push/pull pressure between the knee grip and thigh, it works out much better because then the thigh hold is bearing a lot of your weight and it’s easier to keep symmetry in the arms and lay out flat instead of being leaned downward. It’s when I’m leaning downward like that that my top arm is too low such that I can’t get the top leg unfolded. Top arm too low = no place for leg to go = graceful dismount https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif It’s really hard to keep your torso perpendicular to the ground when you’ve been trying the move over and over…I find between ouchy no-no bruises and some pole burn and the fatigue of holding my body up like that, my patience with this move doesn’t usually last more than a few attempts.
/reminds Veena to make an ins/outs lesson. Pwwwease? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif
In the meantime Karol has a Ins and Outs vid you could check out.

Yes, yes! Double yes!!! I’ll be doing (what I think is a) cool pose when all my toes cramp up.. causing me to fall off the pole sometimes!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif It sucks!!!
My problem is from having very tight calves and (probably related) overpronation in running etc. Trying to point my toes in pole dancing seems to bring on the toe cramps!! I have to take a minute to stretch my calves deeply to get rid of it. Have had this problem since I was a kid!!! (obv. havent been pole dancing since was a kid, but always had toe, foot and calf cramps!!)
So, in my experience.. muscular imbalances in the legs and feet have a lot to do with toe / foot cramps. A chiropodist / podiatrist / physio visit might diagnose underlying imbalances.. then you can find exercises / stretches to try to sort it out!
I’m such a banana, I totally forgot about the magnesium tip! This thread has just reminded me once more to try to eat bananas!!!
I had the same overpronantion thing from running Dee. That was one of my issuse that caused me to need surgery and I’m hoping that the cramping will be relieved now that my foot is fixed.

I can’t relate to that issue because my legs have always been chicken legs the whole time I’ve been poling but…I do struggle with things like the CAR for the same reason I think you’re struggling. When there isn’t much cushion it seems to be a bit more painful and requires more squeezage….or so it seems…..to me…..LOL.

Is your pole new?

LOL, this is a great thread. I’m pretty happy with my body. I have 3 kids and worked hard to get it to where it’s at, but I’ve never stood in front of the mirror and tried to focus in on the good parts. I’m usually scanning to see what needs more attention in the gym LOL. So to look at myself differently and find what didn’t need help was interesting. Here’s what I came up with https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif
I love my eyes, I’ve always thought they were my best feature.
My shoulders and back and arms because they show the most definition and that makes me feel strong. My biceps are huge and I’m always trying to give people tickets to the gun show.
I love my legs because they’re long and slinky and dramatic.
I love my hair because it’s thick and full, like lion!
I love my new archy left foot and
I love my smokin hot cast, cuz it’s sexy!!!!!

I watched it today and I was so pleased to see Martha on the pole! It was so cute. I love how she got the crowd up and had every one rolling their hips! Good stuff.

I just dont get why people insult complete strangers over the internet. It continues to perplex me. And it pisses me off when it’s someone I know (somewhat LOL). You’re probably the complete opposite of a hoe and she was calling everyone who commented (and is a pole dancer) a hoe and that shit is not cool.
I don’t reply to stuff like that because I find it hard to argue with someone I dont know but….I really didn’t appreciate that shit. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_mad.gif

I loove nanas! I put em in everything! LOL

I think you have your answer already https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif
You already seem to understand that moves hurt and after time that pain gets better.
I don’t know if I can tell you where it will hurt (if that’s what you were asking) because it’s different for every move. But it all gets better. In due time. LOL
Keep on polin! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

I was taught (via the internet and what not ) to do the double cupped gri but it just never clicked for me. I first got my shoulder mount in the Princess grip. I wasnt taught that way (maybe because nobody ever taught me personally LOL) but I tried it and it just worked and was comfy for me. Granted this was after months of SM prances. LOL. But after getting comfy in the Princess I was able to get the cupped. For me….I was able to use my arms and back more in princess and I think that’s why I was able to get it that way. I think I struggled more with cupped because I don’t have the abs for it. I’m working on that though…

Anyone else get toe cramps when they are pole dancing? I always seem to get them on the same 2 toes on one foot whenever I’m doing inverted holds which is not good. I’m drinking plenty of water while I’m working out.
Any suggestions.
I have foot cramps all the time when poling but I have foot issues anyway. I’ve heard of people eating bananas before poling and it has helped cramps. The potassium in the bananas helps. Have you tried that?

She called me back today and I booked… =) yay! =) see you then!
You’ll be so happy you did! It’s impossible to be around Karol and not learn something. I dream of her. LMAO!!!!

I watched 10 seconds of her freckles and read her comments and replies and turned it off. Based on her replies to her comments she is completey ignorant and would only reply with more gibberish to anything I say. Plus what she said to Runemist makes me want to go find where she lives and kick her ass. No lie.
I don’t want to grace her page with any more words of people that know about pole and actually have a brain. I suggest none of you do either. what a waste of skin.

I love the flirtyness! LOL good stuff. I’m sure the crowd enjoyed it.
