So many great replies, so I'll try to keep it short. I have Social Anxiety, suffer from panic attacks, and have days that I literally do nothing but sit on the couch, eat,  and use the bathroom. I've been on several different meds over the years, but am now off of all long term synthetic based medications. I take a compunded, natural medication that works for me, although I will say that I carry Xanax with me at all times because panic attacks are no fun! I tend to shut myself off from people, but I have found that pole has been something I can do with others and not even think about it being "social". I've never felt this with other exercise classes. There just something about pole that makes me feel "zen-like". The music, the strength you gain, the way it makes you feel sexy, the journey you take with others in this community and/or studio class….It's all good!

I'm like Lyme. I just started my pole journey about 9 months ago at 47. I will be 48 next month. I have had lots of physical limitations, but I do not let those stop me. I can still do plenty, and it's the most fun I've ever had while exercising. It is a great outlet to just let your mind and body feel whatever it wants to and you get the added bonus of sculpting your body, losing weight, and gaining renewed confidence that may have waned over the years. Go for it!

Not at all! They are a very thin/comfortable material but still have a "normal" width at the crotch. The thong part is not a string. It is about 2" wide. Hungry Vajayjay!!! Here is a Nordstrom website with Hanky Panky's. I believe the low rise are on sale right now.

Veena, I really do swear by Hanky Panky low-rise thongs! Sensual, Victoria's Secret has some booty shorts that I can pole in. Some have cute sayings on them. I still wear a thong underneath, though.

I have been wearing thong underwear for over 25 years. In my opinion, Hanky Panky are the most comfortable out there.  I probably have about 30+ pairs. I pretty much cannot wear regular panties anymore, and other thongs now seem to bother me. They are a bit pricy, but well worth it if you're going to try them. Get the low rise. They are the best for fitting under the tiny pole shorts.

Sarah77, I believe an Apprentice is the same as a Thigh Rest/Open Leg Jamilla, but the ankle of the top leg is "hooked" on the pole.

I like everything that everyone suggested. I also love to ride my bicycle. The best wokout on it is when it's a windy day. Whew! Plus, I get the added bonus of cardio. I try to engage my abs while riding as well.

I don't understand how people think they are entitled to other people's stuff. I am so sorry this happened to you and I hope they find the bastards who did it!

I can definitely relate. I've never had any dance training, so it's hard to be comfortable with freestyle or choreography. However, I do love music and moving along to it. I find that the best time to freestyle (absolutely no plan) is after a nice long pole session. That way, my body is nice and loose. At first, I was trying to think too much because I wanted to get cool tricks in there. After a while though, I realized that I just shouldn't think about it at all. You do not have to have all the tricks in your bag in a freestyle. As everyone has mentioned, just do what your body feels like doing. I think you're probably right in that most people post what they're comfortable with, but there are bloopers videos too. Besides, what we might consider boring or not graceful, or whatever, might be inspiring to someone else. I have a freestyle video that I made at the end of a workout and I have not yet posted it. I think I have maybe 2 or 3 "tricks" in it and that's it. It's also a 47 year old woman in a bikini. I've been thinking about posting it. Maybe I should so you can see that although there isn't much to it, it's still "right" because you can tell I was "feeling" it.

Hi Trena, I know Sassafrassie is from Wellington. It is quite a way from Auckland, but she might be familiar enough with the area to offer a recommendation. Maybe you could send her a message.

Thanks, dustbunny. I won't give up on them. I think they will be great while learning new moves. I haven't quite been able to do a basic Star, but I was able to do one with the gloves on yesterday. I was able to hang on longer with my top arm while I found just the right spot for my lower arm. That will be their advantage, I believe.

Thanks, Veena. I think I just wanted too much too soon. I usually warm up for at least 40 minutes before I really do any tricks, but I got impatient. The heat doesn't help. It's supposed to cool off so, hoepfully  I can get out and take a bicycle ride to kick startt my endurance. It's all good!

It's so very frustrating, Lyme. I'm sure we'll both get it back before we know it! If we could just end this darn heat wave, now!

Do it!! Personally, if I had a teacher with dreads I would be even more drawn to the class.https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif Can't wait to see photos.

Hi Cali, I used to see a Bio-Identical Hormone specialist and she was totally against this. There are just too many unknowns with the long term effects. I also had throid issues, and she did not like that combo at all. It can make your thyroid even more out of whack. This was just one doc's opinion. I'm sure you'll hear many more.

July 17, 2012 at 8:19 pm in reply to: pain in calf muscles after invert

Is the pain on the side or the back of the calf? If it is the side, it could be your periformis. This is the muscle that starts up in the glute and connects all the way down the side of your thigh and into the calf. You may not be feeling it all the way up your leg yet. Either way, make sure you ice it as soon as possible. If you have a foam roller, use that on the glute, the thigh and the calf. Very gently since it is a new injury. I find that this area gets irritated when I get lazy in my inverts. Give it a few days of rest, ice, and stretching. Look into Veena's conditioning lessons for calfs, and legs in general to get stronger and you'll be inverting pain free in no time!
