As with most moves the "grip" will hurt like hell until your skins gets accustomed to being used in that manner. The grip used in the gemini is no different. Think on your knee as a third hand when you go to grip the pole. Make sure once you have the pole in the "pit" of your knee, you have your foot/toe pointing towards the ground. This creats a stronger hold.
As far as the elbow grip…same thing.. think of it as another hand. You also need to lean away from the pole. If you don’t do this you would go straight down. Try to creat a triangle with your arms and the pole. I hope this makes sense. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif
Twisted grip?? That takes a lot of range of motion in your wrist and forearm…I’m still trying that one out..probably be a while unitl I get it!
Good luck!

I went to the studio yesterday and was practicing doing knee swings…and was like "okay lets try it" and boy was I shocked!! I even was able to do a figurehead from it! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

Okay so this pain…is it "inside" your arm??? If so this is usually caused by doing a split grip (Jamilla grip). Certain moves…carousel spin, spinning V etc. usually use this grip. Unfortnately most of us don’t have the flexibility or strength in our forearms that is needed to safely perform these grips when we first start pole dancing. I know when I started I had terrible pain in my sub arm (bottom arm). Yes this does eventually go away as you gain strength and flexibility in this area. I would however recommend doing strength exercises and flexibility exercise for the forearm and hands. This will help prevent any injury. Word of advice…if you go to do a move and it hurts like hell…stop and give that move a rest…say 2 wks. I used to push and push and push…I even got to a point where I couldn’t even pick up a shoe without crying out because I hurt so bad…I don’t want to plug any other dancing site out there (this is by far the best I’ve found) but in the Pole Junkies forum there is an excellent thread about proper grip techniques to avoid injury. According to PJ’s you should only do this kind of grip once you become more advanced. Anyways hope some of this helps!

Congrats on making amends! I wish me and Jezabel (my pole) would! I think she has pms!:)

OOO! Good luck and I can’t wait to see the vid! You have way more balls than me…I always secretly wanted to do that!:)

I know it is harder said than done..but remember every single one of us were beginners at one point in time. We’ve all had bad practices and frustrations when not advancing at the pace we want. We’ve all had bumps and many many bruises! But we are all here to support each other and to watch each other grow as dancers! There are many times when I see someone do something I can’t do and for a split second I get the jealousy bug..but then I get motivated to work on my move…but most importantly my ATTITUDE! I don’t know if this is right or wrong thinking..but to me everything is a game and I have to have the mentality that I’m going to win….whether it be pole moves, advancement at work or even my weight loss. If I lose that drive even for a day it sets my progress back! It’s hard to be possitive all of the time but the more you "force" yourself to do it…the more natural it becomes. don’t get me wrong…I still have those moments/days (did you see my post on superman??? GRR)! Glad to hear that your not giving up! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

Dierdre…that is the exact problem that I have. It’s not lifting my top leg high enough off of the pole it’s that darn inner thigh on my bottom! I’m gonna try lowering my hand…
gonna make a vid tonight!

Ok…
Veena- The closest I come to actually getting into it is my sm…I just can’t get my arm high enough…I know I’m doing something wrong! I’m definitly going to have to post a vid! That is my homework assignment for tomorrow!
Polegirl- It almost seems like the higher I have the pole…the harder it is…I think it’s because some how the pole is pressed against the front of my thigh vs the inside…As far as the knee hold, I’ll have to try from the floor. thanks
Trena- I loved your reaction when you got your knee hold…I will post my reaction once I FINALLY get these two brats!
thanks everyone! I will hopefully have one up tomorrow night!

Oh Cali I am so sorry that you are having to go through this. I would be lying if I said I understand because I can’t even phathom what you are going through…especially with your kids. I will keep you in my prayers!

Welcome to the site!
I agree with Veena…it depends on what you want to do with your poling!
I believe the majority of us on here have 50 mm X-poles and love em!

Had to add that one to my flexibility playlist! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

Thanks! I’ve been able to do it a few more times since then…but not many. Usually it takes me a week after initially getting a move until I "really" have it…so here is to next week! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif
