I too feel lucky to not encounter this much…well except from my husband (long story)…and the few times it has happened it has always been someone under the age of 30 (no offense) that seemed to make the "your a whore" kind of statements.

outside of the normal bumps and bruises…I’ve almost broken my foot! lol I had my pole in my room and was just learning the cartwheel mount and I did one, lost balance and fell out of it…on my way down my foot hit the wooden post of my bed. I couldn’t put full weight on it for about a week! lesson learned…make sure you have plenty of space around your pole! I’ve also fallen out of aerial splits…did the other night actually! lol! I didn’t have a good grip with my knee when I went to adjust my hands and i flipped right off of the pole…luckily i’m pretty durable in the falling department…got used to it from all the years figure skating! hehe I’ve stabbed myself and the wall with my heels, crashed my "no no business" into the pole when I slipped out of a knee swing OUCH!!! I really wish I had these on tape to make a bloobers vid!

I personally don’t like being spotted….I think it gives me a false sense of security. When teaching I will spot only if the student is comfortable with it…that being said I do not catch but redirect the fall so as to prevent any serious injury!

I am 99% self taught…I have been lucky enough to have lessons/workshops with Karol, Alethea, Jessalyn and Jenyne. Personally I would recommend to a newbi to take lessons if possible!! I have suffered through many injuries that probably would have been prevented had I known proper placement to begin with. Having said that…I do feel that I am much more aware of my body placement because I have figured out correct placement/positioning on my own. Unfortunately there are studios out there that do not teach proper technique and safety so you really have to be careful. I actually know of a studio that was/is teaching their students to RUN into an invert and RUN into a corkscrew….IDIOTS! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif So honestly….the girls who go there might actually be better off learning at home from say Jamilla’s dvd’s (fantastic investment for anyone) https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

Normally I don’t chime in on conversations here, this site is for all you wonderful pole dancers, I am just the guy who keeps the windows clean and puts gas in the tank occassionally.

That being said, I want to contribute here. Generally speaking oversight for a sport or physical art-form is provided by a governing body operating as a non-profit that is IMPARTIAL to its competitors and member businesses/organizations. They provide a framework for ranking, judging and operating safely that helps to insure that everyone plays fairly and on the same playing field. They generally require member organizations and athletes to adhere to a code of ethics. MOST IMPORTANTLY they recognize competition as essential not only in the sport but also in the industry.

Pole-dancing does not have this type of organization, that I am aware of. We have people who put on competitions, this is fun but entirely flawed as it provides no unified, unbiased platform on which to operate. No one two or three of us regardless of how skilled has the experience to govern an entire sport. No single organization with its own commercial interests can properly guide an entire sport. Over time we will need to band together, choose our leaders, and proceed to build a stronger sport/art.

Well said Chris!! I am all for pole unity! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

Just in case a new organization might be getting set up (ahem), I think it’d be great to open it up to polers that want to perform for the love of it but who might not necessarily be in top athletic form. Costumes, fun songs, silly routines that get the crowd smiling and cheering on. Group performances, duets, dudes dancing, burlesque, etc. Wouldn’t it be fun if it was more inclusive of the rest of us out here who work our asses off on moves and just want to feel a little love from an audience! Just some input, just in case (ahem,) another organizationjust so happens to maybe possibly come to life https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

And a less expensive yearly pass too!!! Young polers just starting off in life don’t tend to be wealthy!!

I would love to hear other suggestions for a new organization. Everything you girls said so far I absolutely agree with and is already being discussed.

We can start a new discussion on what would everyone like to see if a new organization was to start…ahheemmm…

So if anything were to *ahem* come about…I would be more than willing help out!!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif or even help with the creation….

I use arnica tabs and gel, epsom salt etc…but two things that people tend to forget is 1. staying hydrated and 2. eating right…both of these help prevent and heal bruises and aches too! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif Eating some protein w/complex carbs after working out helps your body rebuild/repair! Oh and adequate rest…which is easier said than done sometimes https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif

Hey Tara!!! Glad that you finally found a place to pole! I would say that since it has been a year since you "really" poled I would not jump right into the twisted grip…it takes a tremendous amount of strength and flexibility in the wrist and forearm and a few people have gotten seriously injured from trying the tg when they weren’t quite ready. Maybe go through all your moves/tricks, work on a bit of strengthenig. I’m sure you can probably nail all the stuff you used to do and it will take you no time at all to be back 100%! You’re a great dancer so be smart about how you approach the tg! I would suggest doing the mounts in this order…1. cartwheel 2. handspring 3. tg . I do find the tg to be more secure than the others but the entry and demand on the body is more extreme (especially if your lifting into it). I can’t wait to see more vids from you!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

As far as the 45mm vs 50 mm…I find that any type of hand grip is easier to hold on the 45mm…and I practice almost soley on a 50mm. I can hold inverted split grips forever(at least it seems) on a 45mm https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

I don’t know first hand…but I’m curious to know myself. I plan on having the exact same thing done this year! I can only assume it will depend on if the implant is over or under the muscle, how fit you are now and how your body heels….everyone is different. I’ve heard some say 6 wk and some say 6 mths so I dunno! Whatever you do..follow dr’s orders. You wouldn’t want to mess us their handy work! Good luck and I hope to hear how it goes! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

The really unprofessional part is send out "revised" contracts after finding out that the girls where scheduled to do work shops….that’s just bitchy!! Well….if I do end up going to NYC for the comp I will be taking a workshop at Body and Pole if they are offereing any! Sorry to any USPDF competitors who are teaching workshops…I would rather pay you for a private lesson than give USPDF money atm and you only get a flat rate…

    this is very unfortunate….
