I definitely added in my interviews that I did Aerial Fitness… when pushed further I would say "Ya know, aerial silks, hoop, pole, that sort of thing. It's basically a gymnastic dance."

I wonder if you know if the henna you've worked with is PURE henna? I have heard tons and tons of horror stories about mainstream henna that has added metallic salts and other reactionary chemicals, and every time people use it and try to dye their hair at all with it they have complications. But what I use is pure henna, and from everyone else who's used it I hear that it is fine to dye over it, though I expect some brassy undertones from the plant dye if I try to lighten it. I will definitely be doing a sample test before I try to do anything with my whole head (better safe than sorry), but I don't want to spend the money on Color Oops if it's really just bleach I need to use to lighten it.
I don't think I've ever met a stylist who has REALLY looked into the henna I use, I would *love* it if I could finally talk to a professional about it who has done the research. If you DO want to learn more about what I use, go HERE:

Oh and good luck and welcome to a world of pole addiction!

If you do a basic search through the forums you will find countless threads about this topic!
For starters, I suggest getting either a Platinum Stages pole or an X pole – they are sort of the standards for high-quality SAFE poles. There are lots of options on your pole –
Spin/Static/Both – Static is what I think *most* people start out using, but it is nice if you can find a pole that has the option to spin AS WELL.
Size – The diameter of your pole can differ as well – 50mm was the initial standard but I've seen more and more people opting for a 45mm. Either is find, I feel like it is easier to get a good grip around a 45mm but anything requiring armpit or kneepit holds are easier on a 50mm.
Finish – Here's the big one… Different finishes will have different levels of grip. In general, Brass is your most grippy pole. It makes me feel like superman when I get on a brass pole. I have stainless steel which is probably the most slippy pole, but I did that because I know if I can hold a move on that pole then I shouldn't have trouble holding the same move anywhere else. There are other finishes that range in between the two, including Chrome and Titanium Gold. Again, look through other forum posts as there is a lot of info about the different finishes =)

Does anyone have experience with Henna hair dye? I was looking into lightening my hair as it has gotten to a pretty dark shade from my henna but I am always nervous to even look at bleach. Does anyone know if the Color Oops would work on Henna dyed hair?

Loved the documentary, got emotional at the end, and of course motivated to get movin'!

i will definitely pick a song or a theme first (usually song first but I did once decide I just had to dress up as Poison Ivy so had to find the music to fit). Once I've got my song I will free dance to it for a while, recording every session and keeping clips of all the things that seemed to work really well. I will start a document with a list of moves I'd love to use and start a little spreadsheet where I type lyrics in one column and insert moves next to the lyrics when I decide I want to try to put one in a certain spot of the song…Yes, I am really that weird.
I also like to cut my song into several pieces so I can choreograph and/or practice it a little bit at a time. If it is going to have a prominent theme then I start to think about costuming during my choreography stage because maybe I want to use the costume in my dance. =)

I definitely recommend trying something a little different if you're not in the mood to pole, and like Cali said taking a workshop with someone new is also a great way to boost your motivation =)

Try learning some yoga, dance, or gymnastics to add to your pole reportoire?

I took about 6 months off the pole. Now I'm back, but I haven't been able to get on my pole at home at all, and I've been not terribly excited to pole with friends either because everyone else has gotten so strong and I am so weak in comparison =/
I will say that I found a TON of inspiration this past weekend, though… so hopefully I'll really work through my crappy feelings and take back my love for pole!

I really want to try this but I'm also afraid to…. last time I tried something new (whichever vinegar some ladies here suggested) my pole SEEMED to have become slicker than ever…. and I haven't had a GOOD STICK ever since (even though it's been a long time since I used it). So yea, I'm just about desperate enough to try something new but I also don't want it to get worse…
I'm thinking there's no way it COULD get worse though….

One thing I hear a lot is to use Apple Cider Vinegar… however, if you are using a shampoo that is not a lot of harsh chemicals, then you shouldn't really need much conditioner – I use Burts Bees shampoo and conditioner, but I only condition my hair about every other shower, with just a dime-sized amount on my ends.

There’s a lot of pole love here in raleigh! Hope you find what you’re looking for 🙂

I am looking into getting more pole shorts, I have one pair of Mika Mikaela shorts but they ride up pretty bad on me… and then I've got the cheeky BK brazil shorts which are just unacceptable for studio practice. Any recommendations on particular shorts that will cover my booty??

I would definitely go easy on yourself and don't try to force moves your body is not ready to do yet, just as if you were starting from the beginning. In the mean time, spend a good amount of time doing strength work to build back up to your old moves, and the rest of the time, relax and see if you can't improve your DANCE and FLUIDITY!
Good luck! I know exactly how you feel and it can be really discouraging, but don't give up!!

Yep, my hubby literally took a scrap of thick wood and screwed the vaulted ceiling piece through that. Still want to make sure you do it in the most supportive part of the ceiling though *nod*

My very first challenge was for Halloween… it will be only fitting if I do it again =)

Kobajo that is so awesome!! I really want to try that – did you put the pole anywhere particular on those connected boards to keep the pressure stable? And could you explain a little more about how you connected the boards? That's a little confusing to me.
I'm going to DEFINITELY get my fiance' in on this project. I have always wanted wood flooring under my pole!

I lose my knee hold all the time… and my shouldermount. So frustrating because I'm so proud of those moves!

I know a SLOW way to lighten your hair is using baking soda to wash your hair. But that could take a while to bring it up as far as you want it. I tried using this stuff called "Color oops" that sells in your local pharmacy/convenience store, it is supposed to turn your hair back to its lightest shade before coloring. Only, it turns your hair really orange so you have to dye it again afterwards to neutralize that sunkist look 😉
