So I have successfully been cooking for myself for the last two weeks https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif
I used one of my 8 times of eating out for dinner with my friend last night. We had planned on it for several days and the dinner was sooo good! It was amazing how much more I appreciated eating out when I am limiting the number of times I do. I start tracking my food today and want to be successful with that for the next two weeks and at that point I will decide what my next goal will be.

MemberSeptember 6, 2010 at 3:30 am in reply to: Something annoying/embarrssing keepign me off pole, advice?I totally understand! I break out in rashes for no reason whatsoever. Recently I keep getting one in my left elbow. So annoying!!
Is the rash symmetrical on both sides of your body? I am also leaning towards it possibly being allergies. Last year I had a rash on most of my body that was completely symmetrical. When I went (more like ran) to my dermatologist he basically told me that I was allergic to myself. Nice, right? What I learned was that my allergies were triggering rashes instead of coughing, runny nose, and the normal. I had to change all of my allergies meds which took a few months to get under control and find which ones worked best for me.
No matter what I would see if you can get into your doctor before October. It just seems too far away! Good luck!

Ok, now I seriously need some help https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_exclaim.gif My roommate helped me move my furniture and I started assembling my pole. Great! Things are going swimmingly https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_nemo.gif until I go to attach my 125mm extension (my ceiling is 7ft. 10in). The x-pole came with the 180mm x-joint already attached. So I go to attach the 125mm extension and the hex screws will NOT move https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_exclaim.gif Not on the side that is already attached nor the side that I need to insert into pole B. I cant figure out if they are already tight or loose or anything bc they just will not move. I am sooo frustrated and I do not know what to do. They actually look rusted out, which honestly, just pisses me off. And of course, I can’t call x-pole until Tuesday because of Labor Day.
Any ideas??? I really want to play on my new pole!

I’m having a similar problem. I just got mine and I cant turn the hex screws in the 180mm X-joint. They actually look rusted out. Soooo not happy. I guess I will be calling on Tuesday.

Maybe I will run to Home Depot and see what they have. I am feeling a bit broke after the actual purchase of the pole.
I have just run into a new problem. I decided I wanted to put it into my bedroom for the time being because I don’t want it in the middle of my condo and it being the first thing you see when you walk in. I live in a building with a lot of older people and I can just imagine the looks and things I may run into if they see it. Knowing this group, they would make a formal complaint against me and put something new into the bylaws https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_ncool.gif But anyways, I need to move my bedroom furniture about a foot to the other side to make a bit more space and I can’t move my bed by myself. I was able to move my nightstand but not the bed – urgh!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cry.gif I may just try to put it up anyways and then move the bed later and just not try anything that would extend out.

Congrats on the weight loss!!! That is awesome!!
Just be careful about getting bored with what you are eating. That has happened to me many many times before and then causes me to gain weight.
-
Do you think I am crazy to do it without counting calories and fat? I just don’t think I am ready to do that extra step and I want to be successful. I feel like taking each step two weeks at a time is allowing me to really create good habits slowly but positively.
-
So I am thinking I am ready to add the next step to changing my eating. Starting on Monday I am going to start tracking what I am eating. I am going to write down everything I put in my mouth – but I am not yet at calorie counting. I have done really really well with cooking my food and not eating out. I didn’t even buy any food at the Jimmy Buffett concert last night or nibble on chips or fries when I was bartending the other night.
It is so awesome to feel successful!! It makes me want to add new goals https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

I joined the 100 day challenge and I have also gone back to checking in on Sparkpeople which has helped me lose weight in the past. I think I just need to focus on the small goals and as I meet them and they become habits, I will add more. I think that part of the reason for my continued yo-yoing is due to my continuously jumping in head first and changing everything at once and not really letting the changes become habits.
For exercise I will be poling and dancing ballet. I will start to add the gym back in once the first round of goals becomes habit.
Good luck with P90X! I have heard it is really hard but very effective when you follow it. I just dont think I would have the discipline to follow it right now.

I like the idea of bringing breakfast and I will definitely bring snacks https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif I think we are staying at an Inn, we haven’t really figured it out yet. The original plan was to go to Virginia Beach, but Earl did away with those plans. That plan would have been better bc the place we would have stayed has a kitchen…oh well https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif I think I need to honestly talk to my traveling friend about my goal and see where that takes us….

I’m in!!! I definitely need to get into lose weight and get into shape. Some of my goals are only for September and some are longer term. I will probably add goals as some of these become accomplished, but I want to achieve something first. My goals are:
https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_nemo.gif To get back into my size 4 pants, dresses, and skirts
https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_nemo.gif To not eat out more than 8 times in the month of September
https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_nemo.gif To cook my own food
https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_nemo.gif To decrease my intake of high fructose corn syrupI am already struggling with my second goal. I had set 8 times for the month (based on a suggestion from a friend) but I am now going out of town for Labor Day weekend. Therefore that is already 9 meals….HELP!!!

Support is always good!!! YAY for pole buddies https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif I would add you as a friend but I cant figure out how https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif Some parts of the site just confuse me!!!

Let me know how you figure it out!! Mine is on order and should be coming any day https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

MemberAugust 30, 2010 at 12:13 pm in reply to: Learning to pole with physical limitationsI would also speak honestly with your physical therapist and doctor. If they know what kind of physical activity you are doing, they will be able to help you modify it. My other thought is to ask for a prescription to see an occupational therapist – they focus more on rehabilitation through activities you participate in within your daily life. Its hard to give specific recommendations without knowing your precautions and contraindications. One thing is for sure, I would definitely make certain you have a crash mat and a spotter!!

I totally understand about the density of the two different body parts (muscle and fat). Its funny, when I was in college I had to do cadaver anatomy and have actually looked at what body fat looks like and its nasty!!! You would think that would be enough of a motivation! Muscle bellies are sooo much prettier!
I think the more I think about it, the more I am discovering my issue (they seem to appear a little at a time). The one thing I really struggle with is motivation! I have done calorie counting before using sparkpeople, but it just seems a bit too overwhelming to me right now. So I guess my bigger question, is how do you all stay motivated?
-
I think (or like to think) that I am focusing more on the number and more on my clothing. So gaining muscle is okay as long as my clothing starts to fit again. I guess that is more of my goal – to tone up and fit my clothing better.

Yay!!! Super excited for you! I could not believe it when I read your initial post, especially with their green M&M commercials! It probably would have stopped me from eating Mars candy bc well, I can hold a grudge https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_mad.gif I stopped eating Ben and Jerry’s when I graduated college because they went on a rant about the military and never told the graduates congratulations. Although not eating Mars products may have helped my weight https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_tongue.gif

Those were my first pair of pole shoes and I do love them. I have noticed that a fair amount of the glitter has come off, but they will always hold a special place in my heart. I wish I could comment on the stick effect from them, but my new shoes (which have a plastic top) havent come in yet so I have nothing to compare to. I do like how my legs look in them if that helps https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

I know this sounds bizarre, but I use a product called Ocean Salt made by Lush Cosmetics. It is a face and body wash that has ocean salt in it. The natural ocean salt along with the lime in it help to naturally remove some of the oils from my hands to dry them out. So basically I use it to wash my face in the morning that I am going to be going to pole class. Not only do my hands become a bit dryer, but my face is exfoliated too!

As a ballerina, I use a lot of this kind of rosin. I am consistently putting it on my new pointe shoes and sometimes even my old pointe shoes depending on what I am trying to do and if the little kids have been doing a lot of butt scooting on the wood floor. First off, Bunheads rosin does not come in a powder form (its crystals) – you have to crush it with your pointe shoe to make it into a powder, so this in itself does not lend itself to pole dancing. I would also be incredibly concerned with getting it off of the pole – when I put fresh rosin on my pointe shoes and then do a passe’, the rosin then gets on my tights – it transfers to other surfaces easily, but doesn’t always wash off so easily. Even after wearing my pointe shoes until I break the box or shank, the rosin I put on at the beginning is still there (I just checked a few pairs of shoes https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif ) – this is normally about 25 hours of dancing on wood and marley surfaces. My other concern with using rosin on the pole is similar to what someone else mentioned – that it really has a lot of stick – if I have too much rosin on my shoes, I squeak, I stick, I basically just make my life waaaay too hard. Yeah, so all in all, I think I would probably avoid using rosin on a pole, now if you want to take up ballet….

I have used Prncsopowr forever! Basically, when I was picking an AIM name years ago, Princess of Power was taken so I took out most of the vowels to get Prncsopowr. My real name is Shira and growing up I was consistently made fun of due to She-ra, the cartoon (He-man’s sister). I decided later on in life to just embrace it. At my ballet performance the other day, my little brother even started yelling it! Some of my friends even call me POP.

Welcome! I have been poling at PP since they opened last year! Have fun and enjoy all of the teachers https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif Each one of them has a unique style and you can learn a lot from each of them. Most of all, have fun!

MemberAugust 9, 2010 at 4:30 am in reply to: Strength and Fitness aside from pole dancingAnother idea is just going to play at your neighborhood playground. There are lots of poles there!! Just think back to what you used to do as a kid including the monkey bars, climbing up the slide and just basic climbing up their poles! It is a free place to practice and build up strength. Besides, we can all use a little time to go back to your childhood!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif
