Former gymnast here… I can tell you that even in gymnastics I did not have the GUNS I have now!! My shoulders/biceps are downright manly from pole. But also I did catch on MUCH quicker than a lot of girls do with pole. I think I did a flying body spin on my 2nd lesson. That doesn't mean it was a perfect one though. Inverting will come easier for you but of course start from the beginning. Also I've found the same things you did in gymnastics will happen in pole… for example in gymnastics I was always powerful but didn't always realize my knee was bent or my arm was flailing in a move.. until you video yourself poling and realize oh, I should straighten my knee more or wtf is my arm doing in that move!

I have a black Lil Mynx stationary pole (and nonskid floor pad for hardwood floors). I'm in VA. Are you interested in this?

I’m short (5 foot even) and the yogini is awkward for me too. I’ve done it like once but it looks so bad that there’s really no point in trying anymore. My shortness also means I can’t do those "stag" moves… you know like Felix does so well, where you are in arabesque position… one leg wrapped on the pole, then grabbing your other foot behind you… I do not have enough torso to physically wrap my body around the pole… just ain’t happenin. Oh well !!

I’m assuming you are talking about general arthritis? Or is it spondyloarthritis? I am 26 and I have ankylosing spondylitis (affects mainly spine and causes spine to fuse into one solid bone and be hunched over…also causes ribcage/chest inflammation and can go to your knees or cause eye/heart problems). The last thing anyone would expect me to do is pole dance and I definitely have limitations. I used to be a gymnast so I get VERY upset when I can’t do things… such as arching my back, I just really can’t. I would be much better than I am but I physically can’t arch that far… it’s frustrating in workshops and stuff when the teacher says oh just arch your back more and your scorpio will be great… but i can’t so it will always look shitty. I am starting an herbal formulation that a professional herbalist created for me, so in a month or so hopefully I’ll be able to tell if it’s helping. Other than that… try Traumeel cream. you can get it at smallflower.com. Beyond that… I take celebrex and occasional pred. I will probably be using a cane in the future, however, right now I am proud to say I’m the only pole dancer I know out there with ankylosing spondylitis!!

I think the pole world is becoming divided… the sensual dancers turn their noses at the trixters and the trixters turn theirs at the sensual dancers. It should not be this way. I don’t think we should define what the term "pole dancing" should be. It should be whatever the INDIVIDUAL wants it to be. If I want to do trick after trick I should be allowed to do so without being criticized for "not dancing enough"… and vice versa. Honestly I think the tricks are just as much dance as the "dance" is… if you watch two different girls doing tricks, they will look comletely different even though its the same trick… everyones style is different and cannot be copied… at least not naturally. That’s why I prefer programs in studios now that have a tricks type of class and a floor work class (or whatever variations) as separate entities. Then, if the girl chooses, she can mix these in her routines… or she can stick with just one. Some programs just have pole level 1-6 and you have to learn certain things… for example… I’m not really interested in the "humping the floor" move so I wasn’t really excited when we had to do that in class. I felt that should have been something for a floor class, not a " general ed" type of thing.

omg I havent recieved a response yet I’m shaking everythings spinning I feel sick…..omg omg omg I don’t know what to do with myself I want this sooo bad

I did not get in and did not think I would…only did it b/c last year i told myself i would submit for this… but… I think frankly it was unclassy of them to not notify everyone at the same time. Girls were finding out yesterday and some girls just got emails right now. Polarity had the consideration to tell everyone at once and not make people wait in slow torture. I feel USPDF was really rude in telling people at different times.

Thats weird, I have the same dream… it’s always that I’m on spin mode and the pole just dissolves into a gooey bendy thing. Or I dream I’m on static and it just falls over. but what does it mean? give up on pole?

I don’t get it from inverting… but do always get it from caterpillaring up after I invert. Typically happens when I’m in heels, not so much barefoot. Have no idea…. but it may be that your legs are too bent in general. I noticed from watching my own videos that my legs were really bent in a regular invert. I’m trying now to straighten them out… and let my back hang down more and rely on more of my feet than my knees. Dont know if that helps…
