    Hey Webmaster,
Need to cancel my lessons for a little while but am not seeing a link on my account page. Could it be that I am on an iPhone?

Hmm have you tried gloves? Some people have had a pot of success with mighty grip gloves. Also Joel on YouTube poledancefan just posted a video with football gloves which are very grippy. Hopefully these would help a little in the short term.

Not only am I glad for you to stand your ground but so glad you have such a supportive husband who will stand up to his mother for you. Thankfully my immediate family is also supportive (my mother has bought me 7in heels,  for a christmas present my parents  paid for a round trip flight to vegas last year for a competition).  Some of my extended is not but meh similar to you they have always had issues with me. Sorry she is a jerk but happy for you to have great support that is so important.

I am hoping that one day Kira and Wendy will write a book titled something like “how to build an NYPD booty” hahaha although I know they are both into fitness and had those glorious quarter bouncing butts before pole, I still want their training program. These are the things day dreams are made of!

@Leann, If rigging a hoop is not possible or plan on moving in the near future maybe try a portable for now.  ( have to email them to ask if it spin although I assume it does)

I saw this hoop on one of our Veener's pages and am saving for one

Would love to see the feint Amy.
Empy on my phone right now best thing I came up with is kind of a reverse or rewound roxy back up the pole. Take the leg not wrapped around the pole and swing it back the way I came. Once on my computer will upload it.

Sounds like it may be either way all of us need to stretch out our calves, achilles tendons, and feet.  Stretching will make it easier to point.  Heels will not necessarily make it better because the muscles will still be tightened.

    http://www.theflexibilitycoach.com/articles/8_10_ways_to_stretch_tight_calf_muscles.htm

    #6 is my favorite

Tendon Stretch: Stand with both feet on a step or a phone book, with your heels extending beyond the edge of the step. You may want to hold onto something to keep your balance as you shift your weight toward your heels and gently stretch the muscles and tendons in the back your lower leg.

Used to get a lot of shin splints from running, a good warm up and very light stretch ( not pushing it hard at all) beforehand helped and then a more intense stretch after.

Both my current boyfriend and my ex went to my co-ed class.  The current is pretty good can go upside down and acknowledges how painful it is on the skin.  My ex is a rock climber and while we together i taught him how to cartwheel before i could.  Something i had been working on for months he got in 5 tries and held.  if we wouldnt have broken up  he would be dominic lasse

My boyfriend (eventually husband saving for house and all etc) and I are 10years apart so there have been some judgemental looks and even comments.    I am with poledancer and chem do not give them the time of day or opportunity for the moment.  This can be hard as who does not want to talk to people about their passions and hobbies  (in my case my job as an instructor)  There probably is a bit of jealousy on their part, some ability to not understand the dynamic of your relationship, maybe an ex they really liked, and/or just general boredom and a need to gossip about something.  You may not think of yourself as a supermodel but looking at your pictures you are a rocking hot pin up even after a baby.

Who knows, there might be a point in time which you can show some of them  or have a few of them over for a pole party.  After getting to know my guys family, they grew to love me.  His sister who is 6 years older than me and a little leery  of me and dancing now shows all of her girlfriends my videos.

Do not let any one make you feel less than fabulous and let them be bitter and negative.   Never excuse what you do but don't feel you have to put yourself out there to be scrutinized.  As part of the pole community, especially studioveena, we are used to positive support and good intentions just remember not everyone shares these views.  Also remember we will be here to support you.

When i was taking bikram yoga my back felt stronger and more flexible.  If you could find a contortion or gymnastics class in your area that would help.

I have always had trouble finding underwear that fit correctly and looked good under my clothing (aka invisible)  I used to find most thongs fairly uncomfortable until i found these which were recommended to go under some pencil skirts. They are soft, don't pinch the sides, frame the butt very nicely, don't ride up, and invisible in tight clothing. http://www.victoriassecret.com/ss/Satellite?ProductID=1265361484307&c=Page&cid=1289999063676&pagename=vsdWrapper

I also do not like the cheekies but was  thinking of getting these. The design seems much better

I find the more clothe on the underwear the more material to wedge me!

January 19, 2011 at 7:03 pm in reply to: Stretching: how often? For how long? TOTALLY confused! Help?

@Hotness Warming up is a gradual increase in workload to allow the body to make physiological changes this helps prevent injuries and early fatigue. Warm ups are often a less intense version of what will be done during the workout.  Often light stretching will occur after a warm up but it should be submaximal to loosen warmed up muscles slightly more.  This should not be stretching for flexibility.

    My Warm Ups

When practicing pole I will just lightly dance for a song before doing ANY tricks.  Continuing to dance I will maybe pull out a spin or two like a fireman or inside hook (if beginner just continue dancing ).  If i am just warming up to stretch i take at least 15mins to warm my muscles up, making sure i do lots of hip dips (legs), body rolls (back, abdomen), twirls (arms), and hip rolls (hips, abs) in both directions.

Off pole warm up, would start walking in place, then start bringing my knees higher little by little, shoulder rolls forward back, head rolls, arm circles small & large, chest rolls. Standing hip flexion, extension,  abduction, and  adduction (leg lifts)  only lifting as high as I can with control.  Some squats and lunges but nothing hardcore.   Maybe light weights or push ups.  Towards the end like to do a little jump rope or jumping jacks (cant jump? step back and forth quickly)

I always make sure to warm up 10-15 minutes if just going to be doing an intensive stretch without workout.

If working out ( dance or otherwise) before intensive stretch will take 5-10 minutes depending on what else I did that day.

Like the other ladies said about stretching is also true for warming up listen to your body and take the extra time if needed.

Marlo is the sex. She is a favorite. If I were not on my phone I would send video links. She either won or came in top 3 for pole drama in the east meets west comp and won American pole fitness championships. She competed in pole superstar. Teaches at body and pole on NYC. You tube Marlo pole dance.

I would still start from the beginning learning  all the basic transitions, spins, and proper ways of inverting.  Already having strength, flexibility, and an understanding of balance and momentum will help you immensely, but like anything else start with the foundation.   Most gymnasts learn the basics quickly.  Plus these moves often are the foundation of other ones like a back hook can transition to an open V, invert, figure head, shoulder mount. ( you may not know what all of those things are but you will eventually)

Getting Veena's lessons would be your best bet because they will allow you to work at your own pace and has plenty of choices.

If using strap or towel like the other ladies said use resistance to build stretch strength.
