WOW, you guys mae me think about the whole thing. Interesting. I actually was thinking about the epole dance thing too and how I didn’t consider some of it dancing because it looked more like gymnastics…that’s what drew me in initially, then I watched a few videos like the bespun ones where they did more strutting and winding and I was like WHOA, that’s powerful movement. of course I have seen the felix vids and I had to stop cause I was like um, I can’t even fathom some of that stuff…it was alot of movement to take in. I liked watching Venna’s combination of artful movement and really wondered if I could even move that way. This is hard to do. I’m sooooo NOT a dancer but I wish secretly that I could pull it off. I also hope one day when I can actually do some advanced moves that I can combine them in a pretty dancy way. anyways, that’s my peanut gallery comments..ha ha. have a great day!

Yeah, I saw this video when I first started on the pole 2.5 months ago. It is sad that this video is sensationalized as part of pole dancing. this in my opinion is not a display of pole dancing what so ever. This video is a clip of a woman who clearly did not know what she had gotten herself into, and she got hurt. Would you attempt a gymnastic flip without training? Of course not. People do not realize the strength and hours of training it takes to even pull off the simplest spin around the pole, and these videos really solidify that. I hope people learn from this poor young woman’s experience and start taking this seriously, she was really hurt and it wasn’t right or funny.
CNN was really irresponsible for making this into a story. It would have been better if they had taken a moment to research and find out who this woman was and whether or not she was actually trained to be doing what she was doing before she got hurt. It might have been better if they had a professional show the audience what real pole dancing tricks look like, so it doesn’t make the sport look reckless and talentless.
    hmmmmmjust a thought.

Oh and I’d jump on BeSpun classes if you are in the LA area. I love their style of dancing and they have lots of classes to offer! Your lucky because that area seems to have lots pole dance schools.

Yeah, I’ve seen leigh anne’s videos and they are AWESOME. I wish I had that type of "politude" I watch the bespun videos on youtube and I’m like mesmerized! If I were there…I’d be all over that class.

I love Halloween. I get all giddy hen I start seeing people hanging their decorations. I almost never decorate because my hubby is never home and I can’t get a babysitter…otherwise my daughter would tear up everything (love her, but she’s a baby NUT)
I think We’ll probably get dressed up even if there is no place to go. Halloween is the only day of the year when I can dress pretty slutty and no one cares LOL!
    N E ways can’t wait!

Is that how much it is at Vertical Expressions?

    Thats Neecies studio in Hendersonville/Nashvillve.
Neecie being Denise Brown competitor in the first USPDF. ^^
Shes awesum tho ^o^ I love her to peices.
She also teaches aerial hoop =D SO much fun!!

No I wasn’t talking about an actual studio…( i’ve never been to one of those) there’s a gym in downtown clarksville where a few polers go to practice and they give novice lessons. Nothing serious I don’t think. Just a few basic spins. Some of the girls there are pretty advanced and I think they go just to have some pole time.

I don’t seem to have any problems getting inverted other than some strain in my middle back (think bra line). Is this a result of not enough ab strength? Or perhaps its a strain/movement my back hasn’t seen?
That’s the same pain I have been having right in the middle of my back…I think it’s because I am not properly engaging my abdominals when I pull up. WHen I do it and really squeeze my abs, I notice I don’t get the pain. I was wondering the same thing. If maybe the pain is just something I get becuase I’m not used to inverting, or if it’s just becuase I’m not technically strong enough to be doing them.

Hi pennygirl. I actually come to clarksville a lot. I rock climb there at King’s bluff, I’m actually heading up there today. Yes, nashville does have one pole dance studio, the other one closed last month. But with classes being $30/class, I decided to buy my own pole and teach myself. I have lots of new bruises, but i’m having fun. I’ve learned about 10 spins, how to climb the pole, and do a shoulder mount. I still haven’t learned any inversions, but that is next. How long have you been poling?
That’s pretty awesome. I’ve never actually been to King’s bluff…don’t even know what or where it is! (lol) I can understand, 30 bucks is expensive for one class..but it seems to be the average. I guess it depends on your budget if you can squeeze that in there that’s cool. I used to take "classes" at one of the local gyms. I learned the instructor was also self taught, and I don’t know that she was super good at teaching composure and safety, so I stopped going…but honestly, it was only 5 bucks so it was still worth the pole time if you already knew some stuff. I wonder what it would cost for me to just get time on the pole by myself. I’m sure they wouldn’t charge too much. I have a lil mynx. Right now it’s broken and only works on spinny mode. Some how I managed to dislodge the bolt and the pole won’t lock now because the bold cracked the base. I am waiting for the manufacturer to tell me how to fix it…and to send the parts. I really don’t know the half of what to do on a spinner pole! ( I get really dizzy and it sometimes spins too fast for me to even think!)
I have technically been doing the pole thing for almost 3 months. I can’t remember exactly when I started so I’ll go with that. I try to get on at least once a week, so I don’t learn too much too fast. I can invert and I know how to do some things inverted, but Veena pointed out how I as inverting improperly. I am now trying to gather more strength so my inverts are controlled. I was just jumping and propelling myself upside down without control and that was hurting my back. (MY back still hurts when I do strengthening exercises) So, don’t rush into that unless you have a really strong core and back. I can do a few spins. I am focusing on those.
I ordered the Art of Pole videos and they should be here tomorrow, but there’s not much I can do with them because of the spinny pole thing. I wonder if you can even do spins on a spinny pole….I have the tendency to hold on so I don’t slide down during the spin cause the pole is spinning! LOL! ( I’m so gonna fall on my butt)
ANyway, it’s cool talking to you…I think I sent you a friend invitation so friend me and then we could message back and forth is that cool?

Yep, I just paid 99.00 for it plus 21 bucks for SH. I wasn’t aware that prices vary…I was too excited to wait once Sissy told me it was a good set…I bought it. I’m still waiting for it though. Good Luck, I hope you get it for the price you want.
