Hi and welcome, I am 49 my pole journey began in June 2010 , I too had no dance background although I have also kept in reasonable condition through sports or going to the gym! I had spinal and knee injuries from motor vehicle accident in 1984, my back has never been as good as what it is now, my flexibility continues to improve I know I have limits but I’m sure as heck going to give everything a go! Whatever you can dream can become a reality I believe!yes it is hard although I don’t believe it is any easier for the younger ones I have watched them and find their difficulties lie with other issues which may be body image so we all have our different battles! But we are still able to build muscle, flexibility, stamina, dance ability , I am extremely proud of my achievements I love to show them off and shock people, I have worked hard for it and will continue to ! This is one of the best things I have done for myself in my life, I look forward to following your journey! Warning!! You will become addicted and there will be no turning back!😜

It took me 17 months to be able to control my inverts like Dirdy shows, in the meantime I used the The sweep, In the first 3 months I bruised my ribs from not keeping the pole behind and close I really should not have been inverting at that stage, but you at 6 months should be ok for doing inverts with the sweep, follow Amy Veenas advice, you will be fine!

I pole on average 3to 4 times a week always leaving a day in between, if I want to pole I will only dance or do some form of aerobic excercise , I also give myself a break for 3 to 4 days every few months I find it helps.

There is a light for sure and your muscles have memory so it will only take half as long to get them back! Don’t give up it will come again 🙂

Veena,  and webmaster,  I would not give this any more of your energy if people cannot treat you with the dignity and respect you deserve then get them out of your life. you have nothing to defend what so ever and these personal attacks are showing her for what she really is.

Well I am age 49 and started poling 17 months ago, there are many moves I am unable to do and don’t know if I will ever get. I am working on getting the splits and stretch and flex if I get them I will be having a hell big party!! I also have no background in any sport that may have helped me to pole,I believe everyone has their own journey as people have. Different strengths and weakness some have natural good upper body strength. I read a blog recently from aerial Amy who believes there are some moves that certain people should not do because of their body types eg handspring because of the pressure on joints, that made me feel a whole lot better, probably due to my age and stage of life I do get I get fatigue if I work to much on the pole.but I usually manage at least 3 times a week with a break of a week every so often.I have found that I get stuck with the same moves for long periods of time where more strength building is needed to perfect or make the move look better . I will say this has been the most challenging thing I have ever done but my passion keeps me going back for more even when my body is sayi g hey your nearly 50 perhaps you should slow down a tad!.
    Cheers

Hi everyone I have read this thread with much interest, I am 49 started flex training 12 months ago suffer from minor joint and some not so minor problems I have noticed a huge improvement in my flexibility, I am far from being where I need to be and know that I most likely will not get there, but the benefits have been fantastic, I am so happy with what I have been able to get there are moves I most likely won’t ever be able to do but I focus on what I can do and keep working on that , I believe improvements can be made at any age if you are willing to work at it 🙂
