YES! That is the begining! From there you let your upper body drop to the floor and move into pencil! This is driving me crazy to try again and want soooo badly to see it in a viedo / dance somewhere. I love it! Noone knew what I was talking about at class last night n the instructor who showed me is off on vacation. So its a combo move- the dangerous bird into pencil.THANK YOU! I wonder if emotion catcher has triedthis. Im gonna copy and paste that link to her and see if yshe can do a video! THANK YOU THANK YOU!

I hate surprises! I would just DIE oif it were any type of ariel lessons. I have been giving hoop a lot of thought- even thought of ordering them for my kids too so we could do together since my hubby wont let me pole around them. Hoop would be awesome!

I can relate to so many of you and have a ot of frustration lately in this area.

My problem is that my husband is not supportive of me poling at all. He doesnt want the kids to see my pole- ever. Nomatter how I try to explain or encourage him to watch some videos of pole fitness. He cannot let go of the stripper stigma and think it is completely inappropriate for me to do anywhere near my kids. He cant even stand to see the pole sticking out form under the bed.

To complicate matters- I homeschool my children 8.10, & 16. and run a business. They do go to a private school for homeschoolers twice a wek, but I have to go to my business when they are there.

It seems like someone is always here. I am not "allowed" to keep my pole up so that makes it even more difficult to have to put it up and down. If I lock my door- everyone needs somethingand wants toknow what Im doing and he doesnt even want them to se it.

I LOVE poling and this is making me sad. I dont see what is wrong w telling / explaining to the kids that there is a right and wrong way to do a lot of things. Not even right and wrong but just the simple fact that people have choices in whatthey would like to do. THere is a different way of doing all kinds of things.

So even though I have  apole at home, work from home the majority of the time and I am here at home w my kids. I cant ever seem to be able to get on the pole. I have joined a studio so I can go elsewhere to pole. But then , getting the time and everything inorder to go there is complicated. Its about 35 min away, then Im at an hour class and the drive back. It is also an issue.

After allis said and done Im lucky if I get on the pole twice a week when I think of it w longing al the time!

I am surprised my husband has no interest in seeing me pole or do a new trick. I am not alone here,I know. One of my instructors husbnads has never in 3 years seen her dance either or ask about it and she teaches!

I wish there was an easy solution, but it only lies in education. Some people refuse to expand their knowledge base.

I shall be poling in my dreams until things change!

Wow! If that test is an accurate gauge.. ILl keep trying! I see lots of progress w my side splits but have the same problem w straddle. I was actually chocked at the difference. I even asked Veen a about it was such a shocking contrast. SHe encouraged me to keep atity, but not over do it. 1-2 times per week. Sad to hear others have the same problembut gld toknow Im not alone either. MAybe we dont naturally put ourselves in any position closely related and so the area simply isnt trained into flexy yet. Anyone who has gotten Althea's strecing video- do you know if she speaks of ths split requiring extra patience or anyone else?

I agree about Veena's lesons. They are mor ethan worth it. I pay 90 per mo at my studio- I learn a move but they dont explain it like Veena does- even close. So After they phycsiclaly help me through a new move, i go home and watch her l;essons nd it clicks, then I can really get the move down- and a lot faster than the others in my class. THey come back the next week struggling and Ive got it. It wouldnt happenn without her step by step instruction and my ability to have my teacher at home

Did your video arrive or did you get to view it somewhere else?

  • Is this it?

We learned this drop in class a couple weeks aog- but called it something else ( I dont remember) Had to both feet on one side of the pole and curl over, then release w one thigh and resqueeze after the drop. It was more scary to learn than hard.

I am a business owner myself and it it toally has to be a FAMILY decision if it is to work out. Our business affects not only me but definitely my husband and my children.  Being a business owner comes w soomany responsibilities and stresses. I couldnt imagine even thinking about it unless my husband was onboard. If I were you- I would definitely WAIT. You need to knwo the numbers inside out- If the numbers are close and dont work out so well on emo- its your pocket that has to pay the difference (been there done that) That could possibly lead to resentment and destruction of your marriage if you dont have his full support ahead of time. ANyway- Just from experience – you need to know all the numbers will work at WORST case scenario (for me its occupancy- so I make sure I can still pay my bills w a 20% vacancy rate or I wont do it!) Otherwise you are buying a liability and that is NOT a good thing!  THere are somany littel expenses you need to take into account- and need to know what they are all before considering. If its a time crunch decision- do yourself a favor and say no. If its meant to be, you will find a studio- w all your numbers (not just hope) you can share w your husband, get his full support – cause believe me you will need it no doubt. Otherwise its just not gonna be worth it. Being a business owner is EXHAUSTING! When it works its great- when its stressful- believe me you dont wanna loose your family and finances – unless you are sure inside out what you are getting into. I just know the stress involved w my husband supportve- If it fails he will be so full of resentment- its just not worth it without him! (my 2 cents) 🙂 You just need to know ALL the facts before doing somehting like this. ANother thing to keep in mind- not many business owners are iwlling to sell something "cheap" that is bringing in cash flow to them… there has to be a reaosn why besides personal. I have personal problems and would hire a manager before I gave up my cash flow from something I poured my heart, soul and sweat and time into.. Just a thought

My instructor taught me to focus on my "knee pit" and that really helped. I notice in the video too she doesnt have the pole in her knee pit- but on her calf. I dunno, but for me tha helped in sticking, then you can move onto the different leg position variations. She was just real strict about having a knee pit grip firm before letting go w hands. We would invert, position the knee pit then really arch our back to get into a secure position before letting go

  • I wish Id have known that when I bought my X pole too. I also have a brass one a slide like crazy. I cant even understand it. I bought it so it would be sticky to learn on and its anything but. How are you cleaning yours @5 butterflies? I thought maybe I was doing something wrong.

I used to do video marketing and all of the video marketersw ere crazy about the flip. Itis sooo easy to use and good qulaity w the HD- I do notice though like you said- have to place farther away. All the girls at the studio have flip also and the cute little tripod.  Its very easy to upload, etc (and priced nice) You can order online and totally customize it too- wrapping your own photo oneven. I luv mine.

August 27, 2011 at 8:11 am in reply to: getting implants

I had augmentation myself- before pregnancy I was a size B, during breastfeeding went to DD +, then deflated but I still had to wear a DD. They were saggy, horrible!! I had a lift / augmentation 350cc,  but all the elasticity was gone form my skin, after they were STILL SAGGY. My surgeon redid again for free with a larger implant 550cc. I now wear a size 32E. I have mixed feelings as well. I love them- when Im not being active. I too run, pole etc.. and it is a hindrance to working out. I dont deal w any pain but they definitely do get in the way! ALso, buying bras is impossible- I have to special order online. I cant buy any from Victorias Secret etc.. (sighs) ALso shirts are a nightmare! If it fits on top, it looks like  bag on the bottom and they tend with "normal" clothes on to make me look heavier than I am. However, at home w my tanks, or boating in a swimsuit, etc, I love them! Its been 7 years now and I  ind myself thinking of a reduction more frequentkly because I have become so much more active, but am torn if I want to let go or not. They look, move feel natural- I wasnt ever able to achieve the perky "fake" look w no skin elasticity ( would have liked a bit more) symatry etc is good.. no back pain, the only issue mainly is bra / clothing fitting for me. I feel like Ive never learned to "dress" to compliment. Hope that makes any sense or is any help to you. Being that youve lost weight, your skin elasticity or lack of will make a big differencce in how your surgery results.

I dont mean to keep popping up w what Althe Austin said in a workshop I just took- but she said so much worth hearing!! I got started right away and focues on tricks and was so determined to learn more hard stuff instead of the beginner moves. She came in and blew my mind. We did 3 hours of floor and chair work and she really stressed that this is the MEAT of pole and core strength- the moves, fillers, slinky snaky movemnets. Transitioning fro the ground then to the pole makes a whole new level and intensity in height. SHe couldnt emphasize enough to start w floor work and chair. BTW, I couldnt walk for 2 days after my legs hurt soooo bad. We NEVER even did a pole sit. The close as we got to the pole was practining holding body weight on toes- with her sternum body waves. SHe said poling and trick poling were pointless without the meat- twas pole dance not pole tricks. SHe was really passionate about it and really opened my eyes to slow down and REALLY learn the "beginner" floor moves and turns I skipped right bu to go to tricks! (which when executed s she was teching were not easy!)  I had no idea how hard and intense these moves really were executed correctly, slowly , etc.. SO I would give yourself a break and start at the begining- it'll benefit you in the long run- Oh she really emphasized felxibility and strength fromground work training and explained how seamlessly when you were strong and flexible it would translate to the air. If you werent solid on the floor couldnt possibly be solid in the air! hope that helps! It did me!

August 23, 2011 at 5:03 am in reply to: Ballet class for pole? And….

I really have no dance experience, but my coincidence I just came from a workshop w Althea Austin and she said people w ballet training have the worse transitioning to the pole w the eception of their pointy toes. She said you learn to kep your upper body and torso too stiff and defeats fluidity of movement coming form your sternum. SHe was explaining her sister has ballet training and is transitioning to pole and is preventing her from doing her slinky snakey body movements she is famous for.. Made me think twice about the ballet class offered at our studio I was gonna take! Not really my opinion but was hers as a pole expert I thought Id pass on since you asked!

I agree w Tarah- Try some grip aide! Ive never fallen frommy pole yet (*knocks on wood)  But. my instructor WONT let us try new tricks, etc without grip aide. She calls it our false sense security until we really master the move w memory, mucle etc… becaue it really helps you stick!

How often should I do the routines? Ive been doing them pretty much at least every other day after my workouts. Also, I noticed w the middle splits routine, the end pose is very hard for me to get out of! Any suggestions? I am way more flexible on the side. I am about a foot away from the ground in the middle and only a couple inches from the side. SHould I do the middle rotuine more? Thank you for these routines. I have always wanted to do the splite. Maybe now I will! For someone training and trying regularly, is there an average time frame  to success? 🙂
