Thanks Veena, I'd missed the booty lift one completely somehow.  My attempt at that is dire though…  A long way to go https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif

My legs do not like going backwards from vertical!

    Congratulations 😀

Must be hard enough to compete in pole competitions where you know people are going to be supportive, but to do so in a mixed talent contest…  Very brave!  https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

Thanks Amy, helps a lot to know what you're searching for.  Turns out I already do some active exercises, but I'll definitely be adding some dynamic stretches (carefully!) to my routine.

Well, as soon as I get round to making and sticking to a routine, lol…

    Ouch, doesn't sound good 🙁

You might find that by playing with the rotation of your legs, you can find a position in which you can get into a straddle, though.  Like, if you lie on your back and lift legs vertically, knees pointing towards your face, then lower the legs out to the side, and that reaches a point where you can't go further, try instead to lift legs vertical, rotate knees outwards (ballet dancer turnout type thing), then spread legs apart so that knee caps end up pointing towards the ground.  It's a matter of finding an angle where the joint doesn't jam.

Some people do have hip joints that are shaped such that perfect box splits are either impossible, or will always be painful on the joint itself.  It's a matter of the shape of the socket.  If you're unfortunate enough to fall into this category, then I can't say I'd imagine it would be a good idea to press on, as you'll risk stretching ligaments that stabilise the joint.

If you can do the front splits and have good flexibility in other directions, what happens if you try to rotate from that into the box splits?

    Aww, stupid work 🙂

Want to suggest another time for it?  More notice on the forums might mean extra people too.

I'm having the same troubles Polecat.  I lack hamstring flexibility so I can't get my hips high enough to press up into stands, and I also have problems with my shoulders: whilst they're flexible enough for me to be in an elbowstand position, they're pretty weak whilst at that angle.  If I try to get my back to the pole as per Veena's lesson, my shoulders just slump and my head ends up on the floor.

I've not tried iguana yet.  Something tells me I'll have less trouble with that than with stands though, because my arms are perfectly happy in the position they'll be for that.  Just a matter of having enough strength and bravery to try, hehe.

I will happily join you in making some kind of record of my progress on these, I look forward to seeing how you get on and working with you (remotely, hehe) on it!

Congratulations to the Veeners that placed!  Which is to say, about half of the winners in total, awesome, hehe.

Can you attach another section of pole back onto one of the joints, and then get two strong guys (or girls, obviously, but I'm a weakling, so I get my bf to do stuff like this, hehe) to twist one of the joints back straight?  The extra length of pole just gives a bit of space to grip, and if you use something rubbery (washing up gloves, resistance bands) you might be able to get enough force into it.

9" might seem like a long way, but you're doing great, I can assure you 🙂

I'm nearly at front splits, but my middles are dreadfully far behind.  I got to 14" or so after quite a while of stretching (as in, a year of doing it occasionally.  I suck at commitment… lol), though admittedly more for fronts, so improvement was a bit incidental.  I don't tend to bother measuring much, since it's just dreadful anyway, hehe.  Doesn't look like a split, basically 🙂

What I'm saying is, you're doing better than me 😀

As long as you're getting closer to the goal, then you're doing something right!  Keep going and you'll get there.

I guess in the same way as people get into the Spatchcock…  Just a matter of tension between where she has an arm wrapped around the back of the pole, and the two points where her ankles touch it.  (re 1:14)   Pretty awesome move 🙂

A good point of course BACE, though I'd say in a relatively popular project you're fairly safe.  Lots of people paying attention and all that 🙂

@BACE16 – lol!  I don't know, I'd like to be *able* to do it, I'd just choose not to, hehe.

I refuse to believe that 2:11 happened.  I'm simply not able to get my head around how gravity could be temporarily so weak there, and there's no other logical explanation https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

Is it odd to feel inspired but also hopeless at the same time?  The road between me and abilities like that is long.  30000 miles or so.  And I'm restricted to walking pace, lol.

@MommaBear – Have you tried this converter?  http://sourceforge.net/projects/mp4cam2avi/

It's from Sourceforge, which means open source code, e.g. no spyware etc. despite it being free download.

I'm currently trying to psych myself up to buy a decent webcam.  The one on my laptop isn't awful but the screen on there's tiny, so not much use for video pole jams.

Feeling a bit out of the loop over here in the UK!  I'll be there in spirit… or something 🙂

Looking forwards to hearing tales of it after, good luck Glitter, PFM and Charley!

If the stud finder keeps beeping when you run it over the ceiling, it's probably completely full of rebar anyway, should be nice and strong.  Concrete itself won't set that off, the metal inside it does. 🙂

I was about to chime in but realise it might be quite different over in the states to the UK!  However, if it is similar, then you're fine with the poles and cameras.   Clothing would be ok if you had it labelled with your business logo, for instance (e.g. like the staff polo shirts people at a fast food joint might get, with the company name on).  As Chem rightly pointed out, business suits are not eligible, although you may find shoes are a possible yes.

Training, however, is definitely not eligible.  Refresher courses of First Aid or whatever yes, but so called "upskilling" is considered to be in your own personal interests rather than necessary for the maintenance of a business.

Hmmmm, you've given me ideas now.  Might be I start a web shop some time later this year, depending on how some other stuff I've "invested" in (hah, that makes it sound so much more organised and impressive than it is, lol) goes…  Could be a better camera and writing my pole off are potential options for me too… 😀

    A clueless one https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

I'm very new to pole, and have no other dance experience besides making a fool of myself on the occasional night out, but I've already discovered I struggle to keep things slow.  I guess I'm a naturally bouncy person.

My pole practices tend to be more "trick" (beginner ones anyway) oriented than dancey, though it's fun to let loose and just do whatever feels right along to a good piece of music once in a while!

The main problem I have is, I feel *silly* practicing dance moves.  There's no-one watching, but I still manage to feel embarrassed nonetheless!  That being said, I used to climb, so I'm used to not worrying how I look whilst attempting to scale random objects, but very very rarely went out and danced.  Perhaps the self consciousness is literally just because I've never done anything like it before.

I went climbing the other day for the first time in more than a decade (oh how I rue the wasted time…), and alongside rediscovering how amazingly fun it is, I also found out that it is *far* more intensive on the forearm muscles used to grip with your hands, because of the variety of shapes and sizes of the holds.

It felt like a great upper body workout, and I'm wondering if that'll help me combat my need to wipe the pole down between every single move I do on it, because to an extent, I know you can combat the slick sweaty hand issue by actually just being strong enough to grip harder.

So, whilst not actually another elegant form of dance and so on, it is a fun form of exercise I can definitely recommend as being a complement to poling 🙂

Oh, and amongst climbers, it's generally the guys that have the advantage climbing up overhangs and anything relying more on the arm strength.  I *love* the idea of some of you awesomely strong polers turning up at climbing walls and astounding the guys 😀  Please, do that for me!  Hehehe.

I can't really answer that due to being a newbie Earthpanther, but with you popping this thread to the top I wanted to add my observation on the matter:

I never had trouble with the CAR, literally did it in one of my very first pole sessions, messing about on my own.  However, I've just been told lately by a physio I'm seeing regarding joint issues that I inwardly rotate my legs when they're straight!  Basically, without thinking about it (and indeed, finding it hard to do otherwise), I put my legs into the perfect position for this.

Now if only that same situation didn't result in hip, knee, and ankle pain from walking… lol

As to where the pole should be: if it's below the knees, then the legs can't be straight, squeezed and rotated together, or at least, the ankles must be quite forced apart, which surely must be quite a strain on them?

With the pole resting on the thigh somewhere, I'd say where exactly is a factor of body type, muscle tone, leg length, and all of that.  Squishy legs like mine mean the pole gets very close to my knees, for example.

Could also be bondage tape, which isn't sticky, but grips the pole and protects the top of the feet a bit.  Mind you, that tends to be wide strips.

@Alesha84 – You definitely don't need a partner to justify buying cute outfits!  The confidence that wearing nice stuff can give is just as important and attainable without.  If you love to wear stuff and feel sexy for others, as people have already said: video for SV 😀  We'll probably have a greater appreciation for the outfit and effort itself to be honest…  In my experience, my bf rarely cares what I'm wearing, it's usually just another obstacle to getting me naked, lol.

@Reenie – Totally with you on the "lingerie problem" there.  Despite my bf not caring, I could so easily spend a fortune on beautiful underwear…   Figleaves.com is my nemesis!  And I loooooove stockings.  I'm so sad you can't really pole in them, lol.

@Amy – Last night I tried the Yoga Plow move as you recommended, and found that easy, no need to swing for momentum at all, arms down or up.  Didn't struggle with that at all.  This afternoon I put my pole back up, and tried lifts from the floor.  Completely on the floor, fine.  Shoulders up even just a couple of inches, no go.  Couldn't lift my hips one tiny bit!  Quite vexing.

@Chemgoddess – That might have seemed like an obvious thing, the lack of pelvic tilt, but it really hadn't occured to me at all!  Just tried a chopper invert (my first in a couple of months due to illness) and with the awareness of that, got my hips up quite a bit higher than I did before.  Thanks for that!
