Thank you all so much! This feedback is exactly what I needed. I started training again today and was happy to find that I hadn’t totally lost all my strength after all. Most beginners can’t climb and start working on slow air walks lol! Thank you all for the support. This is exactly why I love this site : )

Thanks Veena. I know the twisted grip is not ideal. I’ll try split grip. My pole at home is 45 but the one I take lessons on is 50 so I sometimes have issues with hand grips on the bigger pole and at home I’m afraid to do it alone without a spotter.

I didn’t receive a notice that my lessons were about to expire. Reaching out to members whose accounts are about to expire would probably help.

Definitely use a wig cap 😉

I still have trouble doing a good push up! lol! I danced and did gymnastics as a kid but nowhere near the level of ‘preparing’ me for what I do now! I had two babies, went through a divorce that took a toll on my body (I lost so much weight and had no muscle strength or flexibility) and went to a pole class and couldn’t do anything! Just a little pull up on the pole was so crazy and strange to me! But I loved it anyway. It’s been a year and a half and I can do things now that I never ever would have thought possible. I always want more and feel frustrated at what I can’t do so it’s nice to see a thread like this and realize how far I’ve actually come.

I contacted Lil Mynx and they said to spray liquid graphite at the top of the pole. It took a few days (I may have been a little conservative with the spray) but finally the squeak disappeared and all is well.

I’ve been trying to invert with legs out in the v but I’m not able to yet. So I end up going up in this frog-like squat position and then extend my legs out. Maybe I’m being a little hard on myself but I do think I could make it look better. I think I’ll concentrate on first tucking and then extending. Thanks for the tips. More work ahead!

Skullpixie I love it! Building my fan base! So maybe throwing it out there is the ultimate time saver! Yup it’s what I love to do, deal with it and move on. Maybe I’m just missing my ex and how supportive he was. He would get very excited for me when I got a new move or did a good freestyle etc. His cheerleading will be missed. I’ve lost my #1 fan 🙁

This is cracking me up because it sounds like a familiar question. I was always looking for something non-pole to help me with pole and I asked my instructor what exercise I could do to get my v-inverts looking better and her response (very deadpan) was: do more v-inverts.
-
It could also have been due to time of month. Actually if that was the problem I’d be quite relieved because it is nice to get that caffeine rush before poling. Really helps my inverts lol!

Not true. Everyone has their own physical issues they have to incorporate and overcome. Every poler I’ve ever talked to has an area they struggle with. The most amazing pole dancers will complain of a lack of flexibility they struggle with (shoulders, back, hips, etc) a strength in some area they wish they had, or a fear they have to overcome.

You’ve only been doing this for 7 months so I’d say you’re doing great! Have you practiced inverting and then releasing your legs down into an open V? I asked my instructor which exercises I should do to get my aerial V inverts (and just making my invert pretty in general) and her answer was- just keep practicing inverting! The more you work on the move you want the more strength you will build.

I just didn't think they would be comfortable going. But then my mom asked to come and so I got her a ticket. And then at the last minute my dad asked to come too. I realized he had felt left out all along! He said he had never missed any of my shows (plays, etc) and as long as I wasn't doing anything crazy that I wouldn't want him to see (which of course I wasn't)… It was kind of a strange situation at first but I was so glad he came and he was in awe of the strength and has been so supportive of pole ever since.

Do you just post a video on your own page to participate in the challenge?

My boyfriend has a 9 year old girl and she loves playing on the monkey bars and poles at school. She didn't know anything about me going to pole class and one day I saw her run up to a parking sign and do a fireman spin. It was really eye opening and made me realize that a big reason why I enjoy pole is because it reminds me of being a kid again. Swinging yourself around without fear is a sensation I hadn't experienced since childhood on the monkey bars. When we go to playgrounds we search for poles to do tricks on. The rest of our kids are younger so it's a way to make it fun for her to hang out with little ones at playgrounds and it's great exercise for her. There's no connotation or stigma for her. She's totally innocent and it's fun. The adults are the ones that try to put something on it or see something dirty in it.
So when her mother found out I have a pole and her daughter has been playing on it she kind of freaked out. My response is that her daughter likes to play on bars at the playground at school everyday and she likes to dance. Maybe some dance lessons would be nice for her. I also tried calling it my 'vertical bar' which sounds so silly but I thought maybe it would help to call it by another name because clearly she was in a very negative judgmental place. Not sure how else to handle it. She's not my daughter, her father doesn't have a problem with it (he totally sees the fitness part of it for both of us) and it's not like I'm going to take my pole down. I wonder if the mother would have reacted if she found out the I've been teaching her daughter how to belly dance…So sad that people are still so closed minded about anything that could be remotely connected to sex.
