I think that is a great rule! Some products leave such a mess on the pole that u practically need a razor blade to get the gunk off. IMO u shld be allowed to apply product to ur body only…not the pole. Just my two cents 🙂

Southern MD – I graduated from high school there (a loooong time ago!!). I cld have sworn there was a studio in PG County, but I can’t remember where. There are def some studios in Alexandria if u don’t mind driving a little. And of course there’s Xposed which I’ve heard good things about. Good luck!!

I’m not entering, but I will be there for sure! I think it will be a great event 🙂

I took a class at The Girl’s Room (in Frisco, I believe) and it was great! Beautiful studio, and my instructors (Amy) was awesome.

Thx ladies! I’m looking for perm studio poles. No one around here (VA) has PD poles unfortunately. Can you tell me how the spin mechanism works? LM has been my fav (great product, excellent customer service!) but the warrenty on PD is pretty impressive…

I really like how ice skating is judged – u get rid of the highest and lowest scores, then add the rest together 🙂

I like pros judging comps too, tho it does seem like it wld be hard to ensure there is no favoritism. Guess u just have to select people u know will be professional. I also think, as spectators, we have to realize our pick/favorite may not be what the judges r looking for that day. That doesn’t mean a comp isn’t fair, it just means the judges preferred a different style. I hope to see more pole comps; I just don’t like to see competitors being chosen based on online voting!

USPDF WCR, Pole Universe and, most recently, SRPDFC all had some sort of voting element to pick their final contestant. Power Twirl, you're right, it IS annoying to see all those posts on FB. That said, I understand potential competitors need to solicit votes if they want to get into the competition. Shouldn't a competition be based on merit and not who is the most popular, though? I dunno, I'm just really not a fan of the whole voting thing…unless everyone in the live audience gets a vote. Just my two cents 🙂

I got Mirena after my youngest was born and I LOVE IT!!! I was a little freaked out at first, which is why I decided to go with the five year IUD over the ten year IUD, but it was great. I had no problems what-so-ever. Three years ago I got it replaced and I plan on continuing with Mirena as long as necessary. (Lucky for my husband, now he doesn't have to get snipped!!) I do know a few friends who haven't had a good experience and ended up getting their IUD removed bc they had a lot of cramping (this was with the ten year IUD). For me, the worst part was getting it put in. A little uncomfortable, but a lot less painful then having a baby! Good luck!!

All of the pro competitors are AMAZING and their styles are so different. I honestly can't even make a prediction as to who will win. It's going to be one heck of a show! The "amateur" finalists have MAD talent, too!! It's going to be very interesting to see who wins. I wish USPDF allowed videos like EMW did. I'm not going to the comp but wld love to see the performances. Oh well 🙁 Best of luck to all the competitors!!!

The Girls Room is GREAT! I took at class at their Frisco studio when I was in Texas (don't know if that's the location that is close to you) and it was awesome. I def recommend taking classes at a studio – imo the hands on instruction is extremely helpful. I teach classes, take classes, and still do SV online lessons 🙂

I have never used a powder coated pole, but I LOVE LOVE LOVE my Lil Mynx stainless steel pole. Personal preference I guess 🙂

My kids are 9 and almost 7 now (girl and boy). They both know what I pole dance, and they know it’s for fitness. When I had a pole up in the house, they knew they cldnt play in the "pole room" when their friends were over; I told them that not all mommies have a pole in the house so the door needs to stay closed. Last year my daughter started to get a little embarassed and said something about it being "ya know…weird, cause I’m shaking by butt and stuff" and I immediately told her there was absolutely NOTHING wrong with pole fitness, that I love it, it keeps my body strong, it keeps my heart healthy, and those are all very good things. (Of course, this is the same girl that, in first grade, declared me "the best at pole dancing" on one of her homework assignments…go figure!)
I drive around with a big ‘ole magnet on the side of my car advertising DivaFit. Sure I get the occassional funny look at softball practice and at school, but oh well! Some people are just closed minded and that’s fine; however, I refuse to hide what I do bc of them. I honestly believe there is nothing wrong pole dance fitness and it is a big part of my life now, so it made sense to be upfront with the kids about it.

MemberOctober 13, 2010 at 9:05 pm in reply to: Competitions – complaints, good stuff, thoughtsIn August I was a competitor in Tri-Pole (Mrs. Spinster) and in October the studio I am with hosted the USPDF East Coast Regional competition. Both events were very good, very interesting experiences and I feel lucky to have been involved in both sides of the competition world.
I have to say, EMW was excellent with their communication. They sent the competitors copies of the score sheets so we knew exactly how we were being judged. I knew going into the competition that any time I kicked into an invert, jumped into a spin, or didn’t point my toes I would get a deduction. They also had a certain judge scoring a certain area. For example, a particular judge was scoring required elements, another judge was scoring execution, etc. I thought that was a great approach. Tri-Pole was EMW’s first competition. I’m sure they have some things to fine tune, but as a competition virgin, I appreciated the transparency of the judging. Oh, and they DID announce our scores. I was a little apprehensive about that at first, but it makes sense. Scores shouldn’t be a big secret. They aren’t in any other sport. There might be some hurt feelings, but as a competitor, you have to realize that comes with the territory. Imo, the audience deserves to know how the competitors did. They may not agree with the judging, but that’s par for the course.
As for hosting a competition…it was sooo much morework (and expense!) than I ever imagined! I will not bore you with all the details, I will just say that it was a great learning experience and I have a whole new respect for the people who host competitions https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif All things considered, I’m very proud of how well USPDF East Coast turned out. The tickets were expensive, but I think the price was fair (then again, I know how much the whole comp cost to put on–haha!) and I hope people felt they got their money’s worth. Empy, I wld be happy to answer any questions you may have about hosting a competition, expenses involved, etc.
That’s my two cents on the topic. Charley, thanks for starting this thread. It’s great to see everyone’s thoughts!

I have to chime in for Lil Mynx…I love their poles! I prefer Lil Mynx to X-Pole or Platinum Stages even tho, imho, they aren’t as well known. For those of you who have slippery poles, you might want to invest in a dehumidifier. My pole is in the basement and getting a dehumidifier (combined with giving the pole a little love every day) really helped with the slip factor.
