Yay for flexibility! I’ve been trying to gain more flexibility in a contortionist-y sort of way because I’ve always wondered what it would be like to incorporate it into pole dance. I just watched your videos and was like "Yes, it’s possible!!" haha. Thanks for bringing my dream to life lol.

Can’t believe I’ve never seen your stuff before but glad you’re here. I’m gonna go watch more.

no, but USPDF requires that you be able to do a full split… https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif
Eep, that is kinda scary. But I’ve done one once so I’m sure I’ll be able to do one again :p

I competed in USPDF West and don’t have any dance or gymnastics background. In fact, before picking up pole dancing at the age of 28, I was a verifiable couch potato/slob/lazy ass that hadn’t been to the gym since accompanying my roommate to an aerobics class my freshman year of college!

Now, had I been practicing dance or gymnastics since childhood, would I be a better pole dancer and performer? Hells yeah. But I make do with what I got. And that’s kind of what makes this sport so awesome –it’s a great sport for non-fitnessy types who never would have exercised had they not discovered pole dancing.

That’s super inspiring Cricket. That’s why I figured pole dancing was for me. I’ve been pretty "non-fitnessy" as 2004 haha. Thanks :]

Haha thanks for that! I actually have some speakers lying around here somewhere for the iPod. Next time I’ll just go straight to youtube :p

Ugh, I’ve got that same problem. I’ve got alot of butt too so the boy shorts leave a lot hanging out lol, TMI? I’ve tried getting them in a larger size and while they cover my butt they’re usually too big in the waist so they end up falling off.

What I’ve found that works for that is taking in the waist. My mother knows how to sew and showed me how. But if you’re not the sewing type you could probably try biker shorts. Not the long ones, the actual shorts.

    Hope that helps some :]

Do you have to have a gymnastics or dance background to be accepted into these competitions? I know you don’t have to have one to learn pole dancing but, for competing is it required?

I wonder exactly how they choose which girls get to compete? I know they have the guidelines on the USPDF site and everything but I still wonder how they choose. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif

Okay, here’s my beginning ones. No pole to use (yet!) so I had to support myself with my hands. Not even gonna attempt a straddle yet https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif

https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_eek.gif She’ll start up at the top of the pole and just split? How is her body still in one piece lol? Does she compete anywhere else or does she have a website. I’d love for her to win some super cool title.

Oh I love Tricky and Portishead too Stilett. I think the ultimate pole song by Portishead is either Glory Box or Mysterons…but mainly Glory Box. Did you know Tricky ad Portishead both used the same base for Glory Box and Hell Is Around The Corner?

Hey Veena, thanks for the X Pole link. That’s the one I originally showed her but she still thinks it will mark up the ceiling. But I told her if it damages the ceiling at all I’ll pay for it :] Thanks again!

Ohmygoodness Katana I’ll totally take you up on that. That’s so weird that we’re both vegans too. And thanks for the link to the site. The photo gallery is great, the class looks awesome. I’ll be back in New Orleans during the springtime :]

Thankyou Chemgoddess :] Once upon a time ago I showed my mother a video on youtube but she just couldn’t get past the fact that the lady dancing was in her "underwear" :p

Thanks Chrissy! You’ll get your pole soon, we both will :] Whenever someone makes the"pole dancing is sleazy!" comment I just show em a pole dancing video so they can see how athletic you have to be to actually do it. But my mom wasn’t having any of it…
