    Hiya Pavla,

I'm in the UK.  There are loads of great schools.  My instructor is Sminxie (Sarah) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=faYyMH6fhvU

She's awesome and always complains that at comps they only have x-stages so she can't do a death lay….

But really there is a good school in Wales and England.  (Im in Wales).  There are some level 3 PDC instructors…. just go on their website and you can find their dance schools.

In Europe, I would love to go to Oona's dance school… I think I would just about die.  Also, you should check out x-pole website as they usually have people from US doing tours, etc.

GIRLS!!!  I DID IT!!!!!!  I went to my class tonight and told the instructor that I really wanted to try it and she said "well go on have a go!"  And I did… and I went UP the pole…

    I CANNOT BELIEVE IT!!!

Can't wait to make a little video for you all.

I also got my floor butterfly today (after trying for months!)

Today is a good pole day for me!

Thanks so much girls.  My inverted crucifix is really good so I think I might give this a quick go 🙂  I will work on handstands as well.

Glad others are finding this topic useful!  😀

Veena, I'm going to pay for some lessons soon.  I think I want to progress faster than my teacher is teaching (because in a class you learn slower cause there are loads of yous…).

YEY!  Yeah… I never realized I shrivelled up while spinning (twirl).  Thanks SO MUCH!  I cannot wait to post an updated video and be like "now everyone drool!"  hahahaha!  Pheonix, I absolutely loved the angles and curves your body made and your arms were just a part of that 🙂

Someday I will dance pretty darn it!

Here's the video so you can see how much I struggle with this.  I think graceful is not a word that would ever describe me.

@ BeautifulFreak:  yeah I probably won't go as crazy as you.  I will just work at the pole dance routine.  And hopefully get back to my weight training programme!  I've been looking forward to getting back into it.

@ollie: Yep the UK pole art…. never mind that I"m not graceful nor artistic.  Heh.  It's going to be fun and funny!

This took me 4 months to get!  I hate this move.  It sounds stupid, but my instructor simply said "why don't you try switching your arms?"  (so I have trying with left on top, and then switched to right and tadah! got it!).

Makes no sense but it worked for me.  Give it a go and let's see!

    Becca Butcher taught me superman!

The easiest (and currently only) way to get into it is normal invert, pike, and then turn your body to front of pole, reach up with your arm to grab it.  If you are confused I can try posting a video… it's something I'm still working on.

Sorry I can't help with the rest.  I have no idea what the moves are other than scorpio which I got on my first try cause I'm sticky person, so I have no tips 🙁    Maybe squease more with your arm that has the pole in the armpit and obviously get some contact with pole on stomach?  The more contact the better?

PPS.  For jamming x-joints:  I really wish they put on their instructions that you should check the tightness before every use (not just the bottom).  I read those instructions like 4 times… and watched the youtube video.  No where did it mention this.  And honestly, if x-joints are so great, surely they shouldn't jam!  GRRRR!

    Hiya Stacey,

I don't know if its common or not common, but I've also had loads of problems with the pole!  I also found the best way forward was a phone call (after having taken pictures of the pole and sent in an e-mail).  Once that was done, I found that things get in the mail a lot faster.  And although slow, the staff are always friendly. 🙂

I also hate the new x-joint and wonder why you switched to it?  I've never heard of any issues with the screw in ones! (Old x-poles)

I actually need to take my pole down to change over the top plate (you've recently sent me a new one as the pins were broken….).  I think my extension though might be a bit wonky.  I figured I'd just buy a new piece as it'll be faster.  Plus, I fear that you guys over at x-pole think I'm making stuff up seeing as I've had to pretty much have every piece of my pole replaced 🙁

I'm just scared of taking it down because if the new top plate doesn't fit in the extension because the extension (inside) got worn out then I won't be able to put it back up and there again my pole is on the floor.  Since I bought it in Nov it's spent more time down then up!  (Although the first 6 weeks were my fault because I could not for the life of me find a joist.)

So ladies with pole problems:  take pictures and attach in e-mails.  Call and call and call… tell them that you've e-mailed.  Also save all the e-mails you've had (and write a log of who you've spoken with on the phone and on what date!).  Things will go faster when you can name names because then you can speak to the same person instead of a different one each time.

Don't forget that poles are ridiculously expensive (why don't we just buy a piece of scaffolding… haahaha!), so don't give up!

    xxxxx  happy poling!

PS.  Stacey, thank you for all your hard work and dealing with us unhappy poless polers.

YEY!  I am tempted to post a video of me working on my pirouettes so that we can all have a laugh at my expense.  🙂

Oh hell I'm going to post it tonight (got to run!!!)

OH THANK GOD SOMEONE POSTED THIS!!!

    @Phoenix: PLEASE!!! VIDEO!!!!

I am working on piourettes at the moment and my arm looks ridiculous (I also tend to loose balance and flying off the pole).  It's silly… I got an extended butterfly this week, but I can't walk pretty!  GUH!

HELP the amputee arm!  (I say this because it looks foreign to the rest of the body!)

PS.  Anything but caressing body… that's just not my style 😉

yeah… I only started videoing when I joined SV a couple weeks ago!  Never thought of it before.  If you look at my video (first trick line), I was shocked to find that my feet are FLEXED  and not pointed!  I'm excited that it gave me something to work on!  🙂

Don't bother with mirroirs, cause when you're hanging upside down who the hell is thinking "where is the mirroir, need to know what I look like"… really you're thinking "oh shit what do I do and how do I not smash my head".

    🙂

hmmm I might give your lessons a go.  The main benefit I find of the studio is that someone is watching you and can point out what you are doing wrong….

Veena,  you are so bloody talented, you could do a professional showcase!  I'd pay to watch you, but lucky me I get you for free on my computer 🙂  (Ooooo that sounds slightly pervey… sorry…. I really don't mean it in a creepy way!).

I hope you find somewhere to perform live 🙂

Charley, you're making me nervous as I just entered my first one.  I have SO much to work on.  I do step arounds and am out of breath… haha!

I'm trying to stay possitive and tell myself that if I don't fall and break my neck it's good.  If I have a huge smile on my face that's a win!

Today's practice was a complete fail:  I'm sooooo sore from Sunday's!!!  HMPH!  How you girls do it, I don't yet know, but sure hope to find out!

Showcases should def. not be free!  People pay to go see any other type of performance art, so yeah… I guess it's hard to get the numbers?  Is that why profits are hard to come by?

Yep that's the one.  If you go let me know… I'm going to be the cowgirl act to Taylor Swift 🙂

I'm also excited to see everyone else's performance.  I just hope I don't slip off the pole!

hmmm sometimes I wish I were asexual 😛  I don't agree with premarital sex, and that was a bit hard when I had a boyfriend as I was very much attracked to him.  🙂

So to answer Sues question:  Yes men can go without.  I know plenty (from my churhc for eg.)… but the nutty thing is my ex wasn't Christian and basically didn't have sex because he knew how important it is for me to wait until I'm married.  He's an amazing guy, and obviously loved me deeply.

Anyhoo, enough about that or I might get a tad bit nostalgic and upset 😛

I do find it hard to believe that asexual people exist.  I mean, if there is no one interesting in your life and you're busy than I can see how you simple aren't interested…. but when you are with someone that you care about…  woah!
