Hey Breanne, I know how you feel completely. I started in January and I couldnt do spins properly, (although I did any way :S) I hung from my shoulders and it looked terrible. I could not do a pole hold. I thought I was in pretty good shape too for what ever reason. I had no body flexibility what so ever. I am able to do the front splits now on and off depending on the day and how warm my muscles are. My body feels so much stronger, although I am not able to do Aysha's or jack knifes I feel that I am doing pretty well considering I have only been poling for 4 months, almost 5 now I guess!
If you dont have the time thats understandable but if you get time dont not do it because it doesnt feel worth it because trust me it is! It feels amazing to stick a move that you have been preparing to do or trying to hard to get!

Heey Leela, its awesome that you are taking lessons. I understand that it can be frustrating at first and seem like you arent getting very far however your building strength with out even realizing it yet. I as well have a stainless steel pole and i understand that it can be slippery and although grip aids to seem like a great idea, its always a good idea to get used to poling with out any type of grip aid at first. After about a month or so you will start getting less nervous and your hands will get used to it and will produce less nervous sweat etc. I used to have to wipe my hands after EVERY move and it was frustrating but the girls here encouraged me to just keep doing it and that eventually it would get better. Although I still have a bit of slippery issues the initial had wipe after every time I touch the pole is gone now. I do however clean my pole with windex and it does help and doesnt seem to do any damage to my stainless steal pole. I spray a little on a soft cloth and wipe the pole with the cloth. Good luck and dont worry it will get better. btw be careful I have heard there are some issues with spinning in a certain direction with though ps start stand alones. Just want you to be safe!

Hey there, when i first started doing forearm head stands I used two methods to build up my ab strength. The first was when I could only use momentum to get up into it, I would control my way back down. I would put my legs into the position they would be in if I was lifting up into it but rather I would see how far I could get my legs down with out falling. Do you know what I mean. After I started getting better at doing this i would get into position for a forearm stand lift but instead of trying to V my way up I would bend at the knees, lift my legs with my abs and then straighten my legs after I was past the initial lifting point. Now I am able to do a forearm lift with no momentum what so ever. I hope you get what I mean if not let me know and I will post a video showing you what I mean

Roughly 2 and half -3 months. My hands were pretty weak when I started where as the girl I poled with was able to hold on with 1 hand after about 1 and a half to 2 months. It will happen =)

Everything the girls are saying is true about having a splurge day or even just a little splurge each day. It all depends on what type of person you are. Some people cant hand a day of splurging because the next day since they had so much sugar or salt etc they cant stop themself the next day. Some people cant have something small each day because they cant stop at just one bite. Its really about finding what works for you!. If you work out maybe try doing your work out in the morning that way you will be less likely to want to eat crappy since you worked so hard in the morning.

Sorry if somebody already said this I only read what you wrote and kind of just jumped down to the bottom.  Some times as ridiculous as it sounds, if you just pick a really sad song and dance it out and then have a good cry it can make all the difference. You can either just chose to be happy and try really hard at pretending to be happy until you are happy or you can just have a good cry let it all out. Some times the most beautiful dances can come from being upset! Use these emotions to your advantage!

WOW I am so glad that this topic was such as Hit with everyone but it has come to my attention that I started this thread and havent even included how I started poling! So here it is.

I was one of those loser kids that had a somewhat finished basement that had those support poles with the little things sticking out of it in. I LOVED playing on my beam in my basement and when my friends would come over I would show them how to do a carosoul minus the spin. None of them could hold them selves in the position so it made me feel special right from the get go. Ever since then growing up I loved the thought of actually poling (once I found out about poling) Finally I went on youtube and for what ever reason I accidently stumbled upon a video of Zoraya Judd and that was the moment I told my significant other that I WANTED TO DO THAT. haha he was down and about 2 weeks after ordered me my pole for christmas =) Since then I am obsessed and feel stronger and sexier than i ever have before!

It may also be as simple as your pole needing to be cleaned. I clean my pole with windex during and after my pole work out. After doing spins etc even if you arent sweating all over your pole you leave residual oils on the pole and this can cause you to slip. Sometimes when I try and do moves such as the inverted crucifix I will have the right hold however there will be oils that cause me to slide down!

Pole kitten, its a shame that your mother isnt able to try but its fantastic that you are able to let her live through you! You can always encourage her friend to try it out. =)

Sair, thanks I love hearing peoples stories and although yours isn't as dramatic as others its still a good story and we can all see how much you love poling through your dancing as well.
