I’ll try the hair dryer trick tomorrow and see if that helps. I’m scared to put grip aid on my legs because I’m not used to the pain! lol. I’ll try the hair dryer first and then the grip aid. Thanks for the suggestions!

MemberJanuary 13, 2013 at 6:19 pm in reply to: Water drinking challenge? / how to drink more water?I started the BeachBody Ultimate Reset and to get everything in as well as my medications, I have started to drink 1/2 L of water before I get out of bed and 1/2 L when I get in bed. That means I only have to drink 1 L during the day and this isn't that difficult to do. So I get my water without thinking about it.

Today I went to a local studio and the instructor told newbies to climb using the bottom of their foot! She was also instructing more advanced students and was not very good at it. She couldn't properly explain how to do a butterfly. I will not be returning. I don't really care what body shape they have, sometimes that can't be changed no matter what you do. I want to be comfortable in the class, I don't have to be too close or want to be friends with them on a personal level, but I want them to make students feel comfortable. The instructor should want to help students acheive their goals and not be too strict. I also hate studios that get upset if you are late and then take your money and not let you participate in class. We are all adults and sometimes being exactly on time isn't possible. I have had this happen to me at a studio that is an hour and fifteen minutes away. Sometimes traffic happens and I'm late, I don't think that should cost me the class and my money and another long drive home with no workout.

I'm glad I stumbled on to this post, I also have issues with things eating up my day and setting fitness and weight loss goals. i have thyroid and estrogen problems that make the weight loss timing difficult. I can't say I'll even lose 4 pounds a month and have it reliably happen. It is very discouraging with really restricted diets. The discussion here gives me some ideas on what to do and an idea for another: Veena's 30 day thing. I'm going to go look into that right now. 🙂

Thanks for the suggestions. I will track what I eat this week, I have been slacking off on keeping track of that. 🙂 I know I ate less fat than normal last week. I take a multivitamin and a B complex everyday. I do not have iron in my multi, so that could be an issue. Being pregnant is not a possibility, and I do have an appt with my doc next week.

MemberSeptember 25, 2012 at 2:53 pm in reply to: Children and Pole Dance on Anderson CooperOne thing that bothers me is that it is taboo to express one's sexuality. If I had a teenage daughter, I'd much rather her express her sexuality dancing sexily around a pole in the basement or in a dance studio rather than with teenage boys. I don't like the idea of taking all the erotic out of pole. Bringing the topic back to childern, little kids aren't goint to be expressing a sexuality they do not have, therefore, they are going to see it as monkey tricks not sex. If they don't understand sexuality, they cannot express it. Once they start to develop a sexual side, that will come out in their dance as well as other areas of life. I'd rather them develop it in a healthy and safe way. This also extends to grown women. It is nice to have a safe place to express this side of ourselves especially since our culture is so utterly against women that express their sexuality. I think it is the culture that needs changing, not pole dancing, erotic or not.

I have no idea, but I am putting him on my facebook to change that! He is awesome!

I fisrt bought one of these and it was a little scary. I could do beginner spins on it and it would wiggle quite a bit at the "seams." I took it back and bought an xpole.

I love this post. When I was in my teens, I had such a horrible body image. I can recall days I had where I would look in the mirror and really see myself, what I saw was so beautiful I didn't even recognize the reflection as me! I feel kind of sad that I can count the times I have looked in the mirror and seen that. Since then I've had some nasty health problems and gained a ton of weight. I get a lot of crap from people about it and I'm really sick of it! Just because I'm large doesn't mean there is anything wrong with that. There are a lot of things I love about my body:
I love my skin.
I love my face.
I love my hard earned muscles.
I love my tiger stripes (stretch marks).
I love my legs and my feet.
I love my hair.
I love my smile.
I love my brain.
I love my hands and arms.
I love my belly and my back.

Thanks for the info. I'll do the splits lesson again in a few days (about a week from last session) and see if I notice it again. 🙂
Also, for the stretching, the videos say it's okay for once a week, but can I do each routine once a week or should I alternate them?

It was great meeting you Charley! I had fun and can't wait to find someone to practice on! haha!

I am a graduate student in physics trying to decide on a research topic. I love particle physics and astrophysics, but I also want to make a good paycheck and stay near my parents. I am thinking of doing nanotech since there is a lot of materials research in the area. I also teach freshman physics and I am a program manager.

I very much enjoyed your performance! Your routine was great, I was loved the drop split and the reaction at the end! You rocked!

I've read a some good ideas I will try next time, use more than just my thihg, press my ankle into the pole and wrap myself around it. I get into it with a regular invert and then switch my legs so I just have to let go ith the back leg and it's scorpio. As I was thinking about it with the comments, I don't think I let myself come to equilibrium before I let go and dropping into it. Perhaps it will burn less if I hang out in a regular grip for a second and then let go. On my next pole session I will try all these ideas! Thanks guys!

Good to know it can take several months for the pain to go away. I'm going to keep on whimpering.. haha!

I have a 45 titanium and a 50 stainless steel and my friend has a 45 stainless steel. All of them are Xpoles. I love the brand. I prefer the 45 titanium over all of the other poles I have used. It is easier to grip and I don't have significant more difficulty with other grips.

You could also buy a couple of bean bag chairs. I use those and it works great. I wear my heels when doing some moves becuase I can step between/around the bean bag chairs. I am working on CKR with no hand, CAR and wrist sit. They have caught me several times. I tried using cushions before, but they slide all of the place on the laminate flooring. The bean bag chairs stay put. I can walk around/between them in my heels and they are really cheap.

I will stay on the look out for reviews to Alethea's DVD's.
Enigma–I can't afford to purchase all of the Be Spun DVD'sI I would like to try. 🙁 Which do you most recommend?

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'm going to bug my sister to see if her regular camera will do the job, if not the hunt will begin at Costco!

For my Gemini, I don't kick in the in the invert. I am a member of a good studio and they have gotten me out of that habit. I don't have a camera to take a video at this point. Perhaps this is something I can do this weekend. I just can't seem to get my legs over my hands to be able to grip that way. I invert and try to wiggle my way into position, but can't seem to do it.
For the CKR and CAR, my legs just don't seem to lock. I have been doing a lot of strength training on them and what I have been doing hasn't been helping. If I use my hand for the CKR to grab my foot I'm fine. I just can't get them to lock like I used to.

I have purchased the gloves and I do have a sweaty hand problem. I think they work okay, you still have to put dryhands or mightygrip on first or they don’t help at all. I find that my hands still get pretty sweaty and the are a marginal help. I have been improving strenght and working consistently and some days are better than others. Here lately I have noticed that no matter what I do I can’t get my hands to stick to the pole at all! I’m considering putting anti-perspirent on my hands to see if that helps. Perhaps it is the winter weather, my pole is in the basement on cement floor and it is always freezing.
Good luck!
