I use Dry Hands, a grip aide which works wonderfully! I buy direct from the distributor online @ http://www.dryhands.com. I have also heard that Tite Grip http://www.tite-grip.com/ is very good for people with sweaty hands but I’ve never tried it. Also, I have a microfiber cloth that I use to wipe down my pole and my hands, and it is much more effective than a regular towel or rag. Good luck!

Hey girlys! That is wonderful idea Berty!!

How about adding a search button in the members section? Or would that be too complicated?

Or… add a topic to the forum based on location… a folder for USA, UK, Aus, etc, because we are all from different parts of the world! Then further threads titled by region. That way, if someone wants to be contacted, they can voluntarily add their info.

And others who can do tons of moves, but can’t combine them in dance, can’t put on a continuous performance or get through a whole song (like me), or have little stage presence. Everyone has different things that they need/want to work on to improve.

You, on the other hand, have a sufficient amount of moves down, properly & nicely performed, and have the awesome ability to combine them together fluidly with dancing!! In my opinion, THAT’S what makes the best pole dancer. I’d trade you my shouldermount for your overall performance ability anyday!! Sounds to me like you’re Reality-Checking challenged more than anything else!…. ummmm did you forget that you won at that amateur night???

That is me you are talking about! I can’t dance for shi** and can’t even get thru a song without either running out of breath or having to wipe my pole down because my hands are so sweaty. Sure, I can do a lot of moves, but I can’t string them together in a routine for the life of me. Glitter, you have amazing style to your dancing that I would gladly take if I could! Seriously, everyone is different, so it does no good to compare yourself to others. You are doing fine. If you are having trouble with a particular move, how about posting a clearl vid of your attempts and a description explaining exactly what you are having trouble with? Those of us that can do the move, will gladly share whatever knowledge we have to help you get there! Afterall, that is what this forum is about!

I was the same way in the beginning when learning the pole sit. There is no magic secret, I’m afraid.. just grit your teeth and get thru it. It took me a couple weeks to get to the point that I could sit comfortably without having to jump off in pain. Even now, if I haven’t been on the pole in a couple weeks, I still get a twinge of pain when I get on it for the first time.
The superman was totally opposite for me tho. I never really had any severe pain issues with that move. But everyone is different. One way to condition your thighs for that would be to do a slow dismount to the floor. From an inverted crucifix, walk your hands to the floor and bring your legs down, while gripping the pole between your thighs, kinda like creating scissors with you legs to create the friction. You my want to keep one leg up on the pole and just lower the other leg down first, still creating the friction by crossing it over the pole.

Never… it seems anymore! I just started school full-time and I also work full-time, so now I feel like I never get to pole. I am so sad about it… I don’t even have to time to watch videos or peruse the forums anymore… right now even I am cheating cuz I am supposed to be studying but my mind is fried and I need a little break! I am so sad cuz I feel so outa the loop now! And, I miss chatting with you all!

But back when I had a life….. I usually poled at night. I am a such a night person tho… Until recently, I have been working 3rd shift and so "night time" for me was really like lunch time…. I can’t really workout after I wake up, my muscles are always too stiff and it takes time to loosen them up. I find myself most limber and energetic in the evenings. My endurance is better then too.

I’ve bought shoes from snaz75.com and found their prices to be reasonable, and free shipping on orders over $75 so its a pretty good deal. They arrive in good time. Take a look there, they have shoes from several different companies https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif That’s where I always look first.

I <3 Snaz75!! They are consistently the cheapest online company when I compare prices and the shipping cost is reasonable. Just be careful if you buy from the clearance section because I think those items are non returnable.

Oh, how I wish I had your problem! My problem is too much slippage. Even after a year of pole dancing, I can’t get thru a song without wiping the pole down! But, I can’t "slide" down from a wrist seat either, I usually just go into a pole sit and then into aerial stuff from there. What type of a pole do you have? Do you use lotion on your hands or something like that? Sorry I can’t help you more.

Don’t know what the problem is but definitely call Xpole! They are wonderful and will tell you what to do. My rods have bent for forever, I don’t even use them anymore. I would suggest using two screwdrivers in place of the rods. They are easier to handle and give more leverage.

Yay, Glitter!! Sounds like you did a great job, even with a slippery pole. Sounds like you managed to get a lot of cool tricks in. Do u think u may want to compete again? Maybe next time bring a grip aid to help counteract the slippery pole.

I think that it is pretty common that professional dancers compete in amateurs contests. I know in my area, strippers I know have competed in amateur contests at other clubs. One girl actually has her own agent that books her for different contests in the other clubs. And she is really good, so I am assuming the clubs invite her to compete.

April 13, 2009 at 10:31 pm in reply to: Fingers hurting???

I’ve had this problem off and on ever since I started pole dancing… In the beginning it was a cramping pain, and I had to stop taking piano lessons, because I couldn’t do that and pole! Eventually my fingers got stronger and used to the pole and that went away…

Now I get it when I am practicing the cartwheel at times. It’s more of a radiating pain from my wrist to my fingers. I always do wrist and finger stretches before poling or lifting weights because I have had problems with RSI (repetitive strain injury) in the past. I have found that doing these stretches before and after working out have helped lessen the pain tremendously!

Here are a couple of my favorite stretches…

Yay, I got this one! It turns out, all I needed was a little performance anxiety. LAst week I hosted a little pole jam, and whilst trying to show my friend how I was having trouble with it, I actually did it successfully! Haven’t had a chance to practice since but hopefully I’ll be able to do it again and I will post something here!
