Discovered as something I wanted to do at 18, finally could afford it and had the time avaliable that matched with the studio offerings at a few months after my 20th. So I I just passed my 2 year mark (not that it shows cause I don’t practice like I should but malesh).

    Welcome! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_sunny.gif

I hope your shoulder keeps getting better and better. In the mean time, although it will feel weird at first, doing stuff on your left side will become second nature soon. I’m a lefty but most people I teach are righty so I had to re-teach myself all the spins on the otherside. Now, I have to think about what side I’m doing a spin on because they both feel the same…now I just need to get my inverts and climbs that comfortable. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif Just don’t push that shoulder too hard to fast. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif It would be terrible to injure it again.

The alcohol breaks down the finish of the powder-coating. That is why they advise against it. We used to use alcohol at the studio but have switched to windex when we learned that.

Istanbul is prob gonna be tough to find a studio. If you have (or can get) your own pole, you might consider online lessons from either Veena or some other place (wikipole.org has a list of them). But if you’re just looking for a place to practice, maybe start calling or asking around might be more beneficial than the internet.

    Ditto to what amcut said.

It is your doctors responsibility to not give you stuff your alergic to. And then the office not fitting you in for what obviously wasn’t normal and was getting worse is irresponsible too. You’re way nicer than me. I would have said f*** to the whole office, taken my business elsewhere and told everyone why they shouldn’t go there. But I’m kind of like that. I will put up with somethings but certain things I just can’t tolerate.

I think all the ladies on here who made thier poles have them as permanent. I would suggest just save you pennies till you can afford either lil’ mynx or x-pole. I don’t think there is a very safe way to do it otherwise.

Okay, so I can’t trump 6’2 or even 5’8. I’m 5 ft 6.25 inches (the 0.25 is important because it makes me just taller than my mom and since I’m almost her clone that is important to me). But I am one of the tallest instructors at our studio (I think one may be taller) but that being said I’ve taught tons of ladies who are way way taller than me and have gone well on to the more advanced levels and rocked them. It might be a little harded with the added length but since you can’t actually feel how hard a move is for someone else, who cares! And as people had mentioned, the extension you can get rocks!… not that I get much extension being of sorta average height (in the non-poling world) but it always looks super pretty.

Don’t let your bf rain on your parade. I say learn and then kick him in the shins as you do an awesome spin or something for trying to burst your bubble https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif …ok, you don’t have to kick him in the shins but just don’t pay attention to him. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

I don’t really have a dance background. I did ballet when I was young (from 4ish till I think 8 or 9) but then had to quit due to various moves. I did some synchronized swimming for a few years (on an off for about 5 years, again stopped due to moving). But mostly I am/was just a swimmer (used to be competitive and some water polo but now just for fun).

Oh yes, and I took one week of gynmastics in 5th grade because all my friends could do cartwheels and handstands and flips and stuff and I wanted to be able to do at least a cartwheel. So I went for a week, learned a cartwheel and then quit when they tried to get me to do flips (on the tramp or in the foam pit) because I was worried about smashing my head open or breaking my neck. Gravity apparently worries me, that’s why I swim, but I am overcoming some of my distrust with pole. Although anything where my head is anywhere from horozontal to vertical is much easier to learn initially.

So don’t worry pole is def something you can just jump right into. It may take you longer to get a feel for the dance aspect or the trick aspect than someone with a dance or gymnastics background, but it is totally doable.

That is close too but instead of reaching around the pole so the pole is in the airpit, her back would have to still be facing the pole and the pole is against the back of the shoulder (same spot as the shoulder mount). But that is the control and straight legs I imagined.

Good luck with all your goals. A lot of them are mine too. With the pole sit, if you are sliding on a warm pole make sure that you are squeezing super hard with the legs, that you are actually warm too, and that your skin isn’t desert dry. Bbeing winter this is an issue for me, I drink lots of H20 but have to lotion somewhat consistantly otherwise my skin is so dry I slip right off, just be sure there is no residue on your skin when you go to pole otherwise it doesn’t help anything.

I had a friend that grew up in Pensacola but since it is a big place and he is about 4 years older than you, you prob don’t know him. But from what I hear it is a pretty nice place to be.

Ah yes. That is pretty dang close. The main differences would be the legs stay straight throughout the move and in the splits position till about 1/2 then the second catches up to the first, you would go immediately into a second cross ankel release and repeat to the floor but at least 2x in a row (she’d have to be slightly higher), and if it was the slow and controled version (the way way harder one) it would be more of a controled decent around rather than a fall. That grip seemed to work pretty well too. I wonder if other grips would work if some people didn’t feel secure in that particular grip.

YAY! I’m happy that, for the most part, it actually can be done. Now I just need to practice a crap ton more, get super strong, and find a really tall pole. Hahaha, it’ll be a long while before I do but it can be in my future to dos.

I think any music is okay as long as every other word isn’t a swear word. A few are fine (at least thats how it seems). I think beyond that as long as you are not stark naked you can post just about anything.

In the dream it just was a cool way to get back down to the floor so my controled version ended in some front splits on the floor body facing the pole, but in the fast one I just went to standing because I think even my dream self was worried about injury from dropping in splits (I know people can but it always worries me https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_pale.gif ). But if you wanted you could always just end still off the ground with a pole sit or anything you want from a cross ankle release/pole sit since that would be the position you’d be in. Let me know how any of your attempts go if you decide to try it (but be safe too!).

Yes, I’d bet Jenyne or Felix could do it too. Now how to make them try it? Hmmm… https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif

I don’t know what a bow and arrow fall looks like but it prob is pretty close to what I dreamed based of the few pics I could find of the static move, you would just do it over and over again.

The grip is what I wonder about too. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif In the dream I’m pretty sure it was just the (double) cupped grip but I’m not sure if that would be secure enough. To bad dreams don’t cover practicalities like this. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

Jamillas are good. She covers a warm up, break down of moves and strength. The DVD (individual and set) progresses in the order from "easiest"to "hardest" (I use quotes because everyone has different opinions on what is hard and what is not, DVD 1 starts with walking does a swing-y thing with one foot on the ground, then spin, etc.). I think you could work out with it. She doesn’t say do this then this then this like a normal workout dvd but since it generally goes in order you could easily make your own workout.

Not sure if that helps answer your question but hopefully it helps a little

Momentum and increased rotation are pretty much the same thing. Couple things I found helped me were to push off the ground harder and more away from the pole than around it and also to hold my one hand staying on the pole lower than I would for most other spins.

Me too about the underwear becoming thongs (or close to it) because of a lot of booty. I hear volleyball shorts work well for solving the butt peekage problem. I haven’t tried it, but it makes a lot of sense. just an idea in case the lighting thing doesn’t work or if it is too hard to see the moves.

He stares? That’s kinda weird. I just told my old roommates/bf to not be around (hang out in their room, go hang out with friends, or just don’t watch me) when I practice cause it is distracting and then I can’t focus on working on my new moves.
Good luck with fighting the grey.
