I’d still double check those threads to make sure they weren’t stripped… maybe you already did but I won’t be able to sleep tonight wondering if your pole will come crashing down on you or not… https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif

Heck yes poling will help tone your abs!!! It tones pretty much every part of your body. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

We were having an ab discussion in one of the other topics here somewhere, can’t remember where… https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif I think it’s in Pole Moves and something about an Aerial Invert and Chopper… Glitter started the thread.

But the jist of the conversation was to work on strengthening your abs, try doing your basic invert without kicking up – just lift your legs up to the pole. Same with the regular from-the-floor chopper. Shoulder mounts take an incredible amount of ab strength, so when and if you can do it, a few of those in a row will be a full workout for your tummy. I added a question to the thread asking if a shoulder dismount would work on abs, but the general consensus was to be able to know how to do the mount first… much to my disappointment because I’m not strong enough to do it yet!

But do some more poking around the forums here and you’ll find abs are a very frequent topic so you’ll find a wealth of information here. But still don’t be afraid to ask! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

Actually PoleDork, I know exactly what you mean… I’ve also gotten several comments about how fast I’ve been learning too (I think I’ve been at this about the same amount of time that you have… I started beginning of March, but with no prior related experience). It’s made me feel a lot better about myself and I love to share my successes, but at the same time I’ve felt really self-conscious that I was making other people feel badly about themselves because they weren’t learning as fast as I was, and that some people thought I was bragging… It actually made me feel better that there was another new person here other than me that seemed to be learning freakishly fast! (at the same time insanely jealous, but not in a bad way… https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_tongue.gif ) Except unlike you, I really don’t have as many excuses for why I learn so fast…

I work in the Dietary department at a nursing home and while I’m not nearly as strong as you are, I had somewhat-stronger-than-average arms and abs because of pulling the large food and dish carts around. When they’re full, they’re rather heavy and it takes more muscles than you would think to steer them (not to mention our elevator doesn’t always stop even with the floor and sometimes you have to slightly lift the carts to get them on or off… grr…). So it didn’t take much practice to be able to lift my own body weight. I used to take gymnastics when I was like 7, but it was only for a couple months and really learned nothing beyond a cartwheel and the rolls. I also ran cross-country and track for a couple years in high school, but I majorly sucked… came in last almost every time. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif

It’s a great boost of confidence knowing that it’s something that almost comes naturally but you wonder if it generates any negative feelings from others… and then at the same time you’re wondering if you’re thinking too much of yourself by wondering if anyone is thinking negatively of you!!! (did you follow all that??? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif ) I was thinking about putting up a similar post saying kinda the same thing but I was worried about that kinda thing, too… so kudos to you!!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

But seriously, you really are great at this and obviously are a natural. And I still get jealous if you when I watch your vids, but it’s the motivating kinda jealous… kinda like when we watch Veena’s videos. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_tongue.gif So keep up the good work, and you learn and grow as fast as you want to! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

I don’t think I’ve had any poling dreams… yet. I tend to have random dreams that make absolutely no sense whatsoever, so when I wake up I don’t have a coherent thought to remember. If anything I have mental images of what I saw, but nothing describable.

I daydream constantly about poling! It’s usually replaying my favorite clips from videos I’ve seen on here or YouTube (mostly here). Veena’s, Fleur’s, and Sascha’s videos always seem to stick out in my mind, but I’ve probably had days where I’ve been thinking about just about every video I’ve seen. I sit there and try to think about the moves and how I would do them and if I could pull them off… but other than my husband, no one knows about my poling so I can’t talk to anyone about it!!! And my husband has no idea about the technical stuff so it’s all lost on him. When I told him I could do a gemini-scorpio switch he just stared at me… lol. It’s hard because everyone around me can tell I’m deep in thought and ask about it, and I have to make something up reeeallly quick!

One of these days I’ll go back to that bar where they have the pole where I first got interested in pole dancing, and just jump up there and wow everyone. That’s probably what I daydream about the most – is just surprising everyone by showing them how awesome I can be on a pole without telling them first!

Hey all, sorry I wasn’t in chat yesterday… my in-laws were coming up for dinner https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_eek.gif I was so waiting for my little brothers-in-law to fling open the door to our bedroom and ask about the pole… (they’re only like 9 and 7 years old) But that didn’t happen and I didn’t make too big of an idiot out of myself! I should be on next week!

Yeah so I tried doing the shoulder dismount and I can’t seem to get the very top of my shoulder on the pole – my collarbone is what’s against the pole and it hurts like |-|311!!! I’m trying to curl my back a bit so the top of my shoulder is against the pole instead, but I can’t seem to quite get it… this is kinda worrying me because if I do a regular SM, won’t my collarbone hit the pole when I wrap my legs around it??? I’m hoping maybe I’m doing it wrong…

    Cookies??? Where!?!? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_eek.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

No I can’t do either one, lol https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif But I would like to and I would like to think that there wouldn’t be too much danger as long as you did it close to the floor… but I’m not sure, that’s why I asked! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

I’m tempted to give it a shot… Pepper is giving me that "try it!" look again…

Okie dokie – sorry about my insanely long post, it was more me thinking and typing it instead of keeping it in my head… that was one of those posts I went to bed laying there awake wondering why I said all that. My apologies. I understand the ceiling height thing, though. I’m only 5’4" and our ceilings are 7′, and I’m very cramped myself.

I’m sorry the boyfriend isn’t too hot on the idea. My husband was kinda the same way – liked the idea of a private entertainer, but wasn’t too keen on my being on this forum and posting vids and having a secret like this. But ever since I’ve shown how serious I am and he’s seen my progress, he gotten over it. Maybe once you get going he’ll be so proud of you that it won’t bother him anymore! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

But yes the pole comes down in like 15 minutes, and depending on if you actually take the main part of the pole apart, it could only take like 5. The part that takes the longest is unscrewing the main adjuster screw. If you were really in a hurry, all you’d have to do is unscrew the adjuster screw so the dome has clearance to come off, slide the dome off, then if you have a big closet you could just lay it in that way; but if you don’t, just undo the base and maybe one other section of the pole. You wouldn’t really need to take every section apart. I took my pole down to clean it, took every piece apart, and the whole process start to finish (including the cleaning itself) took me like half an hour.

Personally, I’d say just go for it, and put it in that guest bedroom. If in the event you do have guests, I would hope that they give you enough advance notice that they will be staying overnight that you could take the pole down. You’ve been very patient and doing all that saving, and it’s time to reward yourself! You deserve it! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

Oh my gosh that totally sucks… I really don’t know what else to say other than I’m sorry and good luck with the job search! Totally not very encouraging of me, but I do feel really bad for you… I’ll be praying for you! *hugs*

I have another sorta-kinda related question: would doing like a reverse shoulder mount (I guess you could call it a shoulder dismount, haha) be another good way of working ab strength??? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif Like invert normally and then get in the shoulder position and slowly transfer your weight to the shoulder and arms and then really slowly lower your legs… is that possible, or would it be funky to get into??? I’m a long way from a SM (from the floor let alone aerial!) but I was trying to think of some nice ways to try to work more ab strength in the meantime. I’ve been wanting to try it but I always get on the pole and get disoriented and I’m like "Ok my body needs to go this way… ah crap I meant the other way! Oh look, it’s the floor!!!!" https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_tongue.gif

Sorry to crash your thread, Glitter, but I didn’t want to start another similar thread and maybe it’s an idea for you to try, too. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_sunny.gif

Well no one’s really responded to this since Veena was looking for an update, so… yeah here I am.

This is my list of pole resolutions – Studio Veena style https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif
    I want to:
-do inverted moves as well and as gracefully as Veena and Fleur
-do transitions and floor work as well as Sascha (and as sex-ily… if that’s a word https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_tongue.gif )
-be as fluid as Glitter https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif
-have as much energy as Jungle https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

Those are the only ones I’m thinking of at the moment… I have to go back through and watch some other people’s vids… Everyone has great strengths in their pole dancing that I want to learn from! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_eek.gif OMG Veena that woman is so strong! The shoulder mount near the beginning – she didn’t even kick up at all! Videos like that just make me feel sucky. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_tongue.gif

    I faved it, though. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

You said nail a 1 ft X 1 ft piece of wood to the rafters??? Does that mean they are only 12" apart??? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif The dome for an x-pole is 15"… hmmm… I had an idea to just put the x-pole up on the rafters alone spanning 2 of them if they are only 12" apart, but I don’t know how sturdy that would be…:cringe: Then again, it’s the same idea of how they do it in the UK except the rafters are covered with drywall (or whatever) that really doesn’t give much support, so I’m not sure.

And how thick of a piece of wood is he thinking of using that would make the pole so short??? I don’t picture a piece of plywood being more than a quarter to a half of an inch thick, and depending on what kind of wood it was it wouldn’t need to be thicker than that… I’m confused https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_question.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif How tall are these ceilings to begin with? (are you measuring to where the ceiling would be if it were finished or are you going all the way up to the floorboards?)

I’m just having a hard time wrapping my mind around this: your boyfriend wants to put a square ceiling plate up on the rafters to make a surface for the dome on the pole, but that is going to make such a drastic change in the height of the pole that it would put it just below 7′??? Were you hoping to put the dome against the joists or to the floorboards above it???

And also, if you ran a cross piece or two between the joists how would that damage the floor above??? All the nailing and such would be to the joists, not to the floorboards. The damage would be if you put something up there and tore it down recklessly. If it was something made permanent and you just left it there I don’t see how it would cause any damage. Sorry, that sounds stupid to me…

I’m feeling your frustrations. I thought I wouldn’t be able to get an x-pole because our ceilings are 7′ and the minimum is 7’4". However after a chat with the people at x-pole I found out you can buy an extension and use it in place of one of the main pole pieces. I just wish I had like a diagram or pic with the dimensions so I could try to help – I’m fairly mechanically minded and know a few things about this kind of stuff.

April 22, 2009 at 8:32 pm in reply to: OUCH! Nerve Damage

I have some nerve damage but rather different from what you’re experiencing, lol. I had all my wisdom teeth removed – 2 by just pulling, 2 had to be cut out. My lower left one was one of the ones surgically done and they hit a nerve. The left side of the front of my chin is almost completely numb – from the center of my lip over to the left corner of my mouth and down to the edge of my jaw. I can feel my lip better than I used to, but if I had food on that part of my chin I can’t feel it. I have what they call "residual pain" I think – I can feel the pain inflicted by something, but it hurts like 10 times worse than usual and I can’t feel what’s causing it. I had 3 follow-up appointments where all the guy did was take a sharp stick and poke my chin saying "Can you feel this? Does it hurt?"… and it hurt a lot. That’s also gotten better with time.

For mine I was told that nero-surgery was the only way to fix it completely, and I don’t have soreness or pain issues really, so I just kinda deal with it. It doesn’t bother me; except when I can’t feel the food stuck to my face and my mouth kinda pulls funny when I talk sometimes.

I like Glitter’s suggestion with the hot and cold compresses, and maybe some gentle massage.

And if you forget where this spot is next time, I would leave it forgotten! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_tongue.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_razz.gif
